Kaori no matter what, it has been an honour to watch you grow and bring joy to the ice every time you skated. You will always be one of the greatests ever to do it 🩷🩷🩷💜💜💜

major pillar of sports viewing is my team sucks in a devine and biblical way and everyone else’s team just sucks because they’re bad at their jobs

"Thanks to everyone who added a bit of bronze to this medal. I can't stop thinking about Sabrina and Jordan at this moment. It's a tough situation for us with so much uncertainty and overwhelming emotions. I hope everyone understands that we did nothing wrong at the Olympics. And that the Olympic spirit is more important than any misunderstanding between the authorities. I want to believe that the day will come when all three of us will receive a bronze medal."
Federația Română de Gimnastică
so the question is how many other little rule breaks have been going on at literally every meet ever, Romania was the first to challenge it but I'd put good money that things like this happen in each and every meet
Saying Romania is an "influential and iconic federation" is hilarious to me bestie before these Olympics Romania hadn't been internationally competitive for like 12 years
so it seems like the US did just kinda sit there and do nothing lol I would expect nothing else from the historically incompetent USAG which is why the pretty, shiny PR statements they've been putting out have been so funny
"we will fight for Jordan" well seems like you didn't really fucking try when you were given the chance
although this is definitely mostly just FIG incompetence on display, I'm just trying to figure out why the US thinks they still have a case, although I do understand why they want to fight it to the bitter end
CAS reasoned decision is out
FIG does not come out looking well.
Key points I’ve taken away:
1. Yes, there appears to have been a failure to get ahold of the appropriate people at USAG initially. This was identified, new contact information from FIG requested, the full case info sent, an extension granted. USOPC did not participate.
2. USAG was aware of the the disclosure of potential COI by Hamid Gharavi and OK’d his presence on the panel, so that bias argument is going nowhere.
3. Cecile testified that she believed the inquiry was recorded “immediately” and it appears the US did not dispute the omega timing of 1:04. They did not present any evidence that the inquiry was submitted before 1 minute. She confirmed she was aware of the time limit and had attended a training session about the importance of the time limit at the games.
4. The panel dismissed the Romanian accusations that the inquiry for Jordan was done in bad faith and suggested this argument should never have been made.
5. FIG has fucked up beyond belief. Donatella said both that she didn’t check the timing of the inquiry, could have checked the timing of the inquiry, and would have rejected the inquiry if she had known it was late. FIG and Donatella were unable to identify who recorded the timing and apparently had no concrete system for recording or verifying inquiries at the Olympics.
It seems pretty cut and dry. Jordan was royally fucked over by the FIG. There is no wild corruption. I do hope Donatella and the FIG are scalped for this to be honest — it’s such a shitshow.
It is so crazy that they had no way to flag whether an inquiry was late or not.
Also, apparently FIg were the only party that said no to giving all three bronzes, otherwise it would have been fine. unfuckingbelievable.
I’m tired of 4 year fans weighing in on this. This is a family matter. Please respect our privacy in this difficult time
so many layers to this whole gymnastics scoring scandal like clearly there’s an aspect of horrible anti black racism in the way jordan chiles has been treated on social media + xenophobia against romanians coming from american fans (which is i think driven to some degree by the fervent anti russia sentiments even though that doesn’t make any sense lol) + an aspect of perceived and actual favouritism towards usag as a federation by fig and judges for years that is now reaching a breaking point + americans convinced that actually usag gymnasts are somehow underdogs because romania won a bunch of medals in the 70s. and of course nationalistic jingoism on both sides 🤩
Tbh at this point don't give anyone the medal
