today’s take: mike isn’t incapable of expressing his emotions, nor is he unable to recognise his feelings.

there are plenty examples of him very easily putting it in words, without any help, being extremely clear. here’s one:

nobody was forcing him to say it. he chose these words on his own, put them in sentences and spoke. notice how he has no issue letting will know how important he is to him, how he expresses himself very clearly, knowing it’s vital for will to hear it.

yes, will’s life was in danger here but when it was mike & el’s life being in danger, he needed will’s help to shove the words she needed to hear out of his throat.

here’s another example:

mike fucked up - a lot. so he came to apologise, letting his instincts guide him throughout the conversation. does he have trouble telling will how he feels? no. mike goes straight in, telling him how important will is, how he isn’t himself (sic!) when will isn’t around.

mike says all of it with an easiness that crosses into flirting and he doesn’t think twice about putting his emotions into words. he just does.

but here?

complete opposite. I say it. you know I mean it. not only does mike not tell el what she wants to hear, he doesn’t attempt to even comfort her about it. this isn’t comfort, this is denial. arguing for the sake of it.

mike doesn’t have an issue with expressing his feelings. he has an issue with lying about those feelings.
