“I think it might’ve been one of the reasons I cut my hair, y’know? Working here with dreads kinda makes it seem like we sell drugs out the back door. Also, our kale chips are freakin’ amazing, aren’t they?”
“That generally is the stigma with dreads... Though, yeah, I could totally picture that... Speaking of kale chips - I could really go for some right now.”
Please… don’t do that. I’m innocent, I promise. Oh, God, terrible first impression.
“Is this your ploy? You lure people in with free ice cream and this hopeless act, and then - bam! Next thing you know - you’re being chloroformed into a van, never to be seen again.... I think this is the part where I slowly slink away...”
“Marijuana? Weed? Pot? Cocaine? It’s not like they’re so bad of terms that you’ll get sent to hell if you say them, trust me,” Clayton chuckled, Eloise tugging him towards the woman carefully. “.. What’re kale chips, by the way?”
“Such blasphemy!” Andy gasps, with feigned shock. “How could you forget to say cannabis?” Her serious expression stays for a moment before it falters, and a small grin appears. “How does one best describe kale chips? Hmm... Kind of like eating, uh, fried chlorophyll...”
“I think she feels she’s just the right sensation on her own, but I do wish she would adopt me as her granddaughter. It would be nice.”
“I really want to find out if she has grandchildren now and ask them if they’ll swap lives with me..... Or maybe just her find out her name.... Don’t want to scare her off. Gotta cool my inner fangirl.”
“Kale chips is code for weed, I see your health shop front and I don’t buy it. Maybe drug dealers aren’t really the scary thuggish types but are the short adorable types these days.”
“Oh, definitely. When we say we sell forbidden black rice.. What we really mean is - we sell black tar heroine. And I am not short! My height is.. uh, perfectly...Above average, why thank you.”

I want your lips in public But we both know the world ain’t ready for that yet So take my hand, in secret Take my heart and put it in your pocket I want the limelight with you Want the world to see in mind We’ll shine like diamonds in the view Take the world out for a ride
“You don’t need to tell me twice. I can’t actually function without it.” Jace laughed, listening to what she had to say, though. “Oh, that,” he said, suddenly realising what she was getting at. ”I’d get used to it if I were you. Happens all the time. Everyone around here is nuts.”
“Really?” Andy asked, though more so to herself. “That’s... Great! I’m going to have so much fun with this,” she said, with a glint of mischief in her eyes.
“Who doesn’t? I mean even if I get to live with 50 cats, I’ll do it. Did you see it when she tapped him on the shoulder and went like – make good choices in life, son. She’s my spirit animal.”
“You don’t know how bad I wish I recorded that - she could’ve been an internet sensation!”
“I kind of made that mistake the first time I was here,“ Kiki said, “And I’m definitely not a juvie. Okay, I’m a slight juvie. But whatever. The whole healthy thing screams ‘hippie’ and hippie screams ‘drugs’.“
“As a dedicated employee - I feel like I should say it doesn’t, but yeah... It’s got a little bit of a hippy vibe.”
“Okay, okay, I know exactly what you’re thinking and I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong. Because an ice cream truck is a perfectly sound investment and I found it for a really good price. So you can either walk away and turn down the free ice cream or you can hop on Alex’s ice cream train.”
“Okay, sorry, that sounded better in my head.”
I would, but - uh, you know - I’m just too disturbed right now. In fact, I should probably start warning parents...
“I haven’t had my coffee yet – so… what?”
“Weak form - I've had three, anyways.. Yeah, a bunch of preteens come in and start to ask me all these vague questions, and then one goes... You're a health store - I know, you know where the green is. I died right about there... It sorta made my day.”
“Your day just turns for the best when you go to the grocery store and witness an old lady telling a teenager to pull up their pants.”
“I saw that! I aspire to be that old lady one day.”
“What is it about juvies that don’t understand - we’re just a health shop... And cafe, but - We might have the word green in our name, but that doesn’t mean we sell any.... We have kale chips though..”
“A student wrote, You’re the hottest teacher here, at the bottom of the end-of-the-year evaluation they had to turn in. I’m really not sure how to respond to that.”
You clearly give her a D. She wants the D.
