summer reading wrap up
admittedly have not been reading much lately i got a life. 10 BOOKS IN 3 MONTHS IS EMBARASSING ur welc for baring my soul
release, lucy christopher - i liked what she was going with here but genuinely think she shouldve left stolen as a standalone, perf the way it was
redeeming 6, chloe walsh - frustrating asfffffffffff joey kinda needs to die LOL
taming 7, chloe walsh - claire and gibsie r my favs ms walsh is not seeing heaven for only giving them 1 book. AND ITS THE SHORTEST ONE. but theres healing 7 rumors and im crossing my fingers :D
joyland, stephen king
the running man, stephen king - long walk betterrrrrr
fairy tale, stephen king
the incest dairy, anonymous
only prostitutes marry in may: four plays, dacia maraini
rouge, mona awad
the claiming of sleeping beauty, anne rice
may reading wrap up
1. elektra, jennifer saint - well last month i ended up reading a bunch of retellings.! iāve always loved elektra so much and get irked when sheās written off as clytmenestras moody angsty daughter. so i was disappointed with this book being more of that? sheās literally side lined in a book that is titled after her. it gives more story time to cassandra and clytemnestra. which is fine but then donāt call the story elektra?! some lines stood out but definitely not a favorite which was sad, bc i was excited about this :(
2. the deal, elle kennedy - again a terrible booktok rec, i keep trying them thinking one might hit and i never realized this was a hockey one but again just really shit. i canāt think of any romance book iāve actually liked other than boys of tommen fml chloe walsh why rugby in ireland and why not hockey in sweden⦠:(
3. corinne, rebecca morrow - investigative journalism purely and only because i wanted to see if this was in fact stephanie meyer and idk, was that confirmed ?? i honestly donāt think this is her. the book itself also isnāt even terrible and iām always jarred seeing how the other half lives
4. saturnalia, stephanie feldman - so i guess on the surface this is very fast paced, atmospheric, and fun, but also corny and not for me
5. post-traumatic, chantal v johnson - brain melting in a bad way sooooo corny so stupid woke so unfunny
6. stolen, lucy christopher - BEST BOOK OF MY LIFE WOWWWWWWWWW OMFGGGGG INCREDIBLE .
7. deerskin, robin mckinley - shocked that this didnāt resonate with me as i really do like this fairytale but i think the writing style just wasnāt my thing and i also feel like this couldāve benefited from being shorter
8. a fate inked in blood, danielle jensen - very pretty cover. it looks nice in my book stacks. so its not completely useless! :)
9. big swiss, jen beagin - so funny, and probably the most deserving book of getting moshfegh comparisons.
10. beartown, fredrik hackman - very slow but i powered thru bc of all the great things id heard. unfortunately i just found the characters and plot and writing really really corny.
11. saving 6, chloe walsh - this series!!!!!!!!!!!!! literally the only romance series that has like truly gripped me
A Faithful Man (2018) dir. Louis Garrel
6.5K CELEBRATION: EMILIA CLARKE as DAENERYS TARGARYEN ā³ š for @daenerys-stormborn
ADWD / Jude Ellison S. Doyle, Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers: Monstrosity, Patriarchy, and the Fear of Female Power
Lana Del Rey wearing custom Alexander McQueen for the Met Gala, 2024
choosing to love God + instilling his values into your life isnāt some sort of trend you can just pick up. its a lifetime commitment. its surrending your old self and bad habits and accepting a new life pleasing to God. by allowing the holy spirit to guide you on the right path to your destiny. despite your circumstances and what life brings. despite what the world says and what you see. you choose God.
april reading wrap up
1. binding 13, chloe walsh - THIS is my guilty pleasure.. ohhh this is like if normal people was less well written litfic and more in line with sappy trashy romance novels. BUT GOOD. oh it reminds me of like a good quotev story. which is like wattpad for emo middle schoolers
2. the prisonerās throne, holly black - MASSIVE disappointment, but now that i think about it, idk why i was so let down. i didnt care for the three cruel prince books but i did really like stolen heir which made me excited for this. but this follows a different characters pov and was just a big downgrade from stolen heir. i wont read any more holly black going forward.
3. the boy who was raised as a dog, bruce perry, md, phd - preferred this one over the body keeps the score. i cried three separate times.
4. the salt grows heavy, cassandra khaw - cute and eerie!! save this one for october.
5. the god of endings, jacqueline holland - also cute! i dont know why i read all these spooky adjacent books in the middle of spring but i digress
6. lilith, nikki marmery - i thought id really like this but the writing style and characterizations felt too modern and tongue in cheek for the content itself. might have served better if reworked as an original story as opposed to a retelling but what do i know
7. clytemnestra, costanza casati - this is like circe x 10000000 oh madeline miller WISHES she couldve written this.. this is such a good retelling. maybe im biased because i just love the atreus family and the orestia and everything but content aside the writing was really magnificent
8. keeping 13, chloe walsh - MWAHHHHH AHHHH RAHHH GAHHHH
9. monstrilio, gerardo sÔmano córdova - the first three fourths were very good but the last act just lost me! another eerie sort of monster book with a maternal lens. good concept and good execution even, i just felt like the ending fell flat and getting thru it was a chore
10. shatter me, tahereh mafi - i dont know why i bother with the booktok book recommendations anymore. this was PISS POOR. and i think theres like eight of these books. oh you couldnt PAY me to read the rest.
11. butcher & blackbird, brynne weaver - EVEN WORSE
12. thirst, marina yuszczuk - if i had one quarter for every monster aligned book with themes of motherhood i read in april then i would have one whole dollar!
13. stone blind, natalie haynes - was scared because this was like my third retelling of the month and i was nervy. it couldve gone lilith bad or clytmenestra good and it was GREAT!!! im so pleased with this and all the perspectives and everything was done so well and right. everything was so lyrical and smart.
wowwww im so proud of my month!!!!!!!! :)
