if we posit Dany as Eros and Jon as Psyche...the question appears; is Rhaella Aphrodite, or is it Aerys...?? i'm kind of losing myself in dubious sauces about this ever since i saw your tags...

also Dany-as-Eros abducting Jon in the shape of a huge dragon. a most crunchy visual, i enjoy that

Friedlander suggests that in the original tale, [Eros’s] counterpart, trapped in the form of a dragon, met the king on a hunting trip and threatened to kill him unless he would give him his daughter. This would match some of the tale’s many parallels, particularly “Beauty and the Beast,” and still be compatible with the Graeco-Roman gods’ penchant for changing form. Certainly some kind of force is necessary to explain how Psyche was torn from her loving parents and married to a husband she did not know and did not trust. But in Apuleius’s version the dragon-form appears only in Apollo’s frightening oracle and the sisters’ lies. This does not quite rid us of the beast-form, because Apollo is a truthful god.

In light of Dany’s precedent for refiguring Rhaegar’s storyline (“This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened”), I have thought that it could be fun if sometime after meeting Jon rumors went around that she had “carried him off” (on dragonback) but this time it did not start a war 🤔 Regardless, I do consider the story of Eros and Psyche a significant intertext for the series, particularly where the “younger and more beautiful” prophecy is concerned, and consequently multiple characters embody aspects of Psyche to Cersei’s Aphrodite; I’m not sure if there are other Aphrodites, but I hadn’t considered that Jon could be among the Psyches before seeing the post in question. I remember appreciating his second-place result in this poll through and perhaps it is well-deserved…
