Some highlights, in no particular order:
2015 Recap: Joyful Noise Customized 7” Packaging (JNRVIP/JNR208) We introduced our new black packaging board in mid-2015, and have been excited to have a durable and rich black paper to use for our customer’s projects. The fine folks at Joyful Noise Recordings designed a classy package to be used for their “Almost Live” series of releases, a modified 7” Arigato utilizing silver ink printed offset litho on the 18pt. Black paperboard. The trick is to get ahold of one of the releases before they sell out! Besides the “Almost Live” series, if you sign up for their VIP Membership club you also have access to other limited edition releases, many of which come packaged in a similarly customized 7” Arigato (but printed on 18pt. Chipboard).
Been making pins. Available at AndSonsPress.com
The fine folks over at And Sons Press (full disclosure, it’s David) have made this fantastic little enamel pin with our name on it for you hardcore fans to purchase. I say “hardcore” because they exist in a very limited edition, so early adopters will be rewarded. Slow pokes, go home.
We are thrilled to announce the release of a 7" featuring 2 great new songs from our all time favorites STARFLYER 59 @sf59 & @mikeadamsathishonestweight! 250 on black vinyl, 250 on white! Ships 10/30/15! $5 plus shipping at flannelgraphrecords.com!
Made cover art for new Mike Adams / Starflyer 59 split 7″.

Here’s a little weird one, 2010.

Each day this week I’m going to profile a different member of the Honest Weight touring band. Today, it’s David J. Woodruff. I’ve admired David from afar for a long time (before his joining our crew). His visual art is striking and beautiful, and he’s been involved with some of Bloomington’s best bands since I first became aware of him. David is adventurous and inspiring to me, and I have a lot of respect for him. He’s unabashed and brave, while maintaining an amount of selflessness that I often envy. His personal style is unparalleled, and I feel lucky having an excuse to get as close to him as I am.
———————————————————————————————————————————————
What’s your name and where do you come from? David Woodruff of Bloomington, Indiana
What’s your role in this band/on the podcast? I play the bass guitar parts in Mike’s band. On the podcast, I attempt to not fill every gap with unfunny jokes and callbacks. I try to provide structure by steering the conversation towards recurring segments and context for the listeners.
Where do you like to go when on tour (favorite towns/stops)? Diners, or local restaurants with character. - Warm places in the thick of an extended midwestern winter (Austin, TX for example). - College towns that feel like bizarro Bloomington: Athens, GA; Asheville, NC; Madison WI… - NYC when I don’t have to be responsible for the itinerary and transportation.
What other podcasts do you like, besides Tan Van Tour Talk? "The Moth" (storytelling) and "Radiolab".
What record album would you recommend to a stranger right now? Cate Le Bon’s “Mug Museum”
What happens after a person dies? Usually, that person’s body is ritually interred or cremated, if they have family. Otherwise I think the local government is tasked with disposal.
What’s your typical American gas station food purchase consist of? Grapefruit juice
What would you be doing with your life if you weren’t on tour with Honest Weight so much? Thinking about work.
What are you afraid of? What happens after a person dies.
Why do you keep doing this music/art stuff in spite of the increasingly limited reward? I’ve always valued creative output… at the very least as a good mile-marker. Obviously, music can be powerful. I want in on that. Specifically being part of a touring band— I like traveling with an agenda and being part of a team. The discomfort can make for good stories.
Here is David’s online headquarters. I highly recommend perusing these pages and spending some time with his artwork. It’s some of the best, ever.
Mike Adams said nice things about me on the internet because I play music with him. I've enjoyed these profiles of our bandmates. Listen to our podcast.
Dave “Stringbean” Akeman: wore his pants like that before it was even a thing. Notice though, his pants are tailored to be down that low.
Lookin’ good, Stringbean!
