Plus, he’s watched as his wife was slandered across the media for daring to be a black woman with a British royal. He spoke out about that before they were even engaged, warning papers to knock it off, and yet they’ve only gotten worse. Then, he’s watched as recently they’ve continued to slander her just to distract themselves from having to hold a white, male, more senior member accountable for associating with a known sex offender (and possibly even offending, himself, if the allegations are true). Remember how little media attention was actually on Prince Andrew, even after that disastrous interview? That was on purpose.

The fact is, a real husband would stand by his wife and protect her from media slander, dishonour and vindictive royal in-laws. And he’s lived the cautionary tale. He’s learned enough from his father’s mistakes to know exactly which way the wind is turning. No matter the reason, or how much of a step back this will be for them, he’s made his priorities clear, and he’s chosen right.

(Plus, he’s not even a likely spare, let alone a likely heir – monarchists can stop shitting themselves over who will take over next when that’s been taken care of for the next century at least).
