Just recently I was moving flat and while sorting things, I found my old sketchbooks. One of them full of unfinished, abandoned sketches of this evil boy. I felt a bit nostalgic and since my vacation just started, I decided to redraw one of them.

(I'm almost sure this is design I drew with Utumno times in mind, but you know, it was a long time ago)

Melkor (Morgoth) and Mairon (Sauron) - The Silmarillion / Lord of the Rings [works of JRR Tolkien] (Note: I draw my art on a desktop computer; if you are scrolling on your phone, you will need to zoom in to see this image the way it was intended.) This is ship art and you can be weird on it.

I just think their whole thing is kind of delightful! Melkor, whose ingrained desires would see him corrupted; Mairon, who thought that was way cooler than what Aulë had going on.

I decided on a crown/armor that was reminiscent of an asymmetrical disruptive blast. It doesn't have to be practical. because it's melkor.

Melkor was enchanted by how quickly the newly recruited Mairon blossomed into the terrifying lieutenant of Utumno, and by how naturally and effortlessly he embraced all the darkest desires he had hidden, suppressed, and masked for so long.

Melkor had thought it impossible to fall for Mairon even harder than he already had, because the Vala had been completely smitten from the very first moment he spotted him among the other Maiar. But his beloved bright husband had never been lovelier to behold than in the darkness of Utumno, where he truly belonged.
