Visually, this movie was great and the cinematography was enthralling. However…it was just not good honestly. I didn’t read the book so maybe my perspective is shattered, but nothing about this cronenberg copy felt worth watching for 2+ hours.
So, it’s been found out that Brady Corbet used AI in The Brutalist to fine-tune the actors accents due to time constraints and money. I find it disappointing that they decided to go that route, but I also don’t think it is that big of a deal. As in, I do not think it is a big enough issue to where you shouldn’t go and see the film, it’s still prominent and makes for a fantastic watch.
However, should this disqualify Brady for awards pertaining to the films production? I would hope so, as grave as that is.
10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU 1999 — dir. Gil Junger
as it was in the Hyperion Cantos series, I don’t think it’ll be AI that takes over our lives, but the billionaire technocrats that seek to control everything we consume. Musk, Zuckerberg, and Bezos will consume the planet for everything that it has.
I don’t think non-book Dune fans realize how much of a “coming of age” that the movie and book are. Not only are we watching Paul grow up to be a messiah and assume godhood, but we’re watching a teenager transform into a premature man, stripped of his innocence.
He knows things he shouldn’t know, and he’s thrown into a role that he shouldn’t be engaged with. A role forced upon him by puppet masters planets away, and by his own mother whose only fault was loving her Duke.
The least entertaining movie of the year goes to The End (2024) dir. Joshua Oppenheimer. It’s too bad because George McKay is George McKay.
I cannot believe that this is the same boy that just made one of the best modern films of the year. We need more pretentious directors that act like they’re saving film. Thank you Brady Corbet.
