I’m not going to say that what Angel and Buffy had wasn’t real or wasn’t love, because obviously it was. But the happiest we ever see them is when Angel is human for a day. Compare that to Angel and Cordy, who spent every day working and laughing and fighting together, being exactly who they are. They didn’t just have a love—they had a life together.

It’s good to see everybody!” says David Boreanaz, 50, the show’s titular vampire who, upon arrival, immediately makes a beeline for the dressing room to find his costars. Spotting Charisma Carpenter (shallow cheerleader-turned-champion Cordelia) and Amy Acker (shy Texan physicist Winifred “Fred” Burkle) in makeup chairs, he plops himself on the counter and sits, legs swinging giddily, catching up with them while they’re curled and coiffed. “Look at that smile,” he says, gesturing to Carpenter with affection. “We just picked up where we were last time we talked to each other.” (x)

“So…what happens next?” Cordelia asks. 

Angel shrugs. “I don’t know.” 

Cordelia gets up from the desk and goes over to the couch, sinking into it and making herself comfortable. She pats the empty space next to her and Angel joins her. 

“Did you mean what you said earlier?” 

“What?” Angel questions. 

“About people like us never having a chance to…you know.” 

Angel sighs. “I don’t know. Maybe.” 

“But what if they do? What if we do?”

“What do you mean?” 

“I mean, maybe this - me being here - is our second chance.” 

Angel looks to her, his face soft. “Do you know I’ve spent every night since you’ve been gone wishing you would wake up? Everything that’s happened…I needed you more than I ever have.” 

“I know.” 

“Now that you’re here…I…I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you again.” 

“I’m not going anywhere,” she whispers. “No matter what happens, I’m going to be by your side. Wild horses couldn’t stop me.” 

He turns his body towards her and his eyes find hers immediately. Slowly, he leans forward and although he has no breath, Angel feels like he cannot breathe. She’s so beautiful, so beautiful… He reaches up and sweeps a chocolate curl from her face and gently brushes his lips against hers. 

“I missed you so much, Cordy,” he whispers against her mouth.
