As 2018 comes to an end, and Angela’s Book Huddle has been ongoing for several months, we have decided to bring it to an end. It has been a great couple months full of learning experiences.
Next, Samuel will be starting The Sorcerer’s Stone, Natasha will be starting The Doll People, Audrey will be starting The Doll People, and Eureka will be starting A Pony For Keeps!!
Here is everyone’s stamp sheet progress after a few months into Angela’s Book Huddle!!
Today during Angela’s Book Huddle, we learned about text connections! (Text to text, text to self, text to world) Here are the wonderful works of the children
update
as of now, we in Angela’s Book Huddle continue to gather and read books together on Sundays. Currently, Audrey is reading Magic Tree House book number 8, Samuel is reading Ms. Coco is loco in the weird school series, Eureka is reading A Fish Out of Water, and Natasha is reading Dulcie’s Taste of Magic.
Today (5/20) we continued to finish up writing about our favorite part of the story! After finishing up, we continued wrapping up finishing our respective books. Everyone worked really well today.
The first two papers are from children in grade 1, while the second two are from children in grade 2.
today (5/14) we spent 15 minutes just reading our respective books, and then for the last five minutes the kids began writing and drawing out their favorite parts in the book in the portion that they had read so far. We did not completely finish, so will be continuing this and reading next week!
Here is a picture of our prize box!
How to earn prizes: Children earn stamps by good behavior in class and reading as instructed. Ten stamps equal one prize!!
Prizes ranges from decorative pencils to folded paper stars, cute little erasers, tattoos, and hand made rainbow loom charms (flowers, strawberries, Christmas wreaths, with additions made of same or other charms when requested by students)
Today (Sunday 4/29) was the first day of our book club!! Today we took a group photo (profile picture) with everyone holding up their favorite books! We also had everyone write down the names of books (or general topics) onto a piece of paper for future reference of what books to bring for the kids! We also established a stamp sheet for everyone, with a system of allowing each child to exchange a gift for every ten stamps earned with good behavior in class.
About Angela’s Book Huddle
First, a little about me: Hello! My name is Angela Yun and I am currently a junior at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions!
What is Angela’s Book Huddle?
We are essentially a mini book club. We gather children by their age groups and focus on trying to help improve their reading and writing comprehension skills through fun and rewarding methods in hopes of cultivating a true love for reading in their hearts.
Who is this program for?
All children within elementary age range 6-10
What we do:
We read fun stories of all shapes and sizes.Through this program you will gain valuable language skills ranging from learning to preview stories, how to make predictions, as well as how to ask the right questions from what you read and how to make text connections to real life.
Where and when do we meet?
We meet on a weekly basis (and will be officially starting as of May 06, 2018) at IPCF in Fremont, California from 11 to 11:20 pm.
Additionally, we also host optional field trips to local libraries and bookstores (i.e. Barnes and Nobles) in Fremont and San Ramon area. However we are also open to other suggestions of appropriate locations!
Our purpose:
To help educate and improve the lives of children around the world. Children and books are both my absolute favorites, so for me this club has literally brought together the two loves of my life. Spending time with young children and witnessing their journeys of growth as individuals is honestly very captivating as well as rewarding to me. It also brings me pleasure to be able to share with others the joy of reading and the magic of books to tug one into another world . I hope to within my limited power try to make this world a better place.
