so to sum it up, for about a month, i have no idea where me and my partner will be staying. i have no family or friends who can help me out, i just got kicked out of my house, and i need to save as much money as i can for housing and groceries.

I keep thinking about self-defense, and how victim-blaming adult figures tend to be when you’re a bullying/peer abuse victim.

(*Obviously this is not universal and I’m glad to remember that some folks do get help from adults. But from what I usually see, that’s not the case for a lot of victims/survivors)

Your classmates are just “teasing” you. They mock your likes and dislikes. They mock literally everything about you, from your physical appearence to your personality. They want to shame you for who you are.

And when you defend yourself - whether you insult them back or tell them to stop, or even threaten to hit them when they keep invading your personal space -, you’re in the “wrong”. Because you’re just as “bad” as your bullies and you lose your “reason” to be angry. No matter how awful and discriminatory they’re being, they’re just kids “being kids”.

No, all you have to do is be quiet because bullies only go after the children that stand up for themselves. And may I just say, that is the bullshittiest(?) argument I’ve heard for many years. Time after time I talked to the teachers and the counselors, and they did jackshit about my situation - nor did my parents support me after all. After maybe two or three years of reaching out for help, I stopped by the end of Middle School, because I knew I couldn’t trust anyone to help me.

Nobody did shit about me being isolated and distant from my peers, not wanting to engage in group activities and fieldtrips. Nobody asked me, “is there a reason why you don’t want to be around your classmates?” without blaming me. I was the one grumpy girl that hated socializing, when in reality I was so furious at everyone and myself, because I thought I wasn’t worth helping. And to this day, I can’t fucking open up because I already expect to be shut down.
