thunderstruck by @gruff_indor on wattpad (Briar Dixon is a character created by me)
A loud thud from upstairs caused Briar to look up from her book. She gazed at Bucky, who was watching the Miami Grand Prix on the TV. She rolled her eyes when he dismissed the noise.
"What if someone got hurt?" she said, getting out of his arms and heading towards the stairs. Before she could start climbing, Bob came downstairs. He was carrying a stack of board games - most of them covered in dust.
"We should do a wholesome game night. I found these," he said, laying them on the table in the living room.
"Define wholesome," Ava said, appearing in a flash.
"Define night," Yelena said from behind her.
"Define game-" Walker was cut off from Alexei's, "I will destroy all of you."
Bucky groaned, "You idiots will never let me finish watching a race."
"Everyone change into your PJs," Briar announced. Everyone disappeared besides her grumpy, old boyfriend.
"You too, old man," she said, dragging him to their room.
"We are the same age, Bree."
"Then, act like it."
The team gathered in the area where they were previously at. Briar used her powers to summon the snacks and drinks to them, and John ordered pizzas for the group.
"We shall first start with Uno," Alexei said, getting the cards. "How do we play?"
Bob explained the rules and they all started playing.
Alexei was horrible at hiding his cards.
Ava and Briar had an unspoken agreement to secretly add their own cards to Walker's side every five minutes. They were about to hit UNO until John stood up to get a beer, and the cards were exposed. Ava and Briar were then watched with a close eye (John).
Briar hit Bucky with a Skip, and he stared at her like she committed treason.
Yelena and John created an alliance so Bucky couldn't win. They made him Draw 4 three times.
That alliance lasted three minutes before betrayal.
"You pig," Yelena scowled as she picked up two cards. John made her draw two cards right as she hit UNO.
"UNO," Bob said as soon as he placed his second-to-last card in the pile. He glared at Yelena. She called him out for not saying it last time and he had to pick up a card.
Bob ended up winning, but Alexei insisted he "won in spirit" even though he had 16 cards.
Bucky quietly stacked the gigantic pile and muttered, "This game ruins friendships."
The next game they played was Monopoly. Briar saw the wad of cash and was intrigued. "I swear I'm dating Mr. Krabs," Bucky sighed as Briar played with the fake money.
Once the game started, the rules stopped applying.
Actually, nobody bothered to understand the rules in the first place.
John bought Boardwalk and started roleplaying as a slumlord. "Pay me fifty dollars, you... poor person," he reached a hand out to Yelena, who only had twenty dollars left.
"I will pay you five dollars and if you have a problem with that, I will slice your-" she was cut off from Alexei shoving a cheese puff in her mouth.
Ava created a fake LLC mid-game and tried to buy the bank. "That's not how this works," Bucky said. He was the only one who understood the game to some extent.
Briar bought all the pink properties and charged insane rent "for aesthetic reasons."
"There is no way this pretty house is only 16 dollars for rent. If you want good quality, you have to pay good quantity." She winked as she took the $400 from Bucky. "And that was with the boyfriend discount," she told the others. They groaned, realizing they would be charged double themselves.
Bob made up his own house rules. No one noticed until it was too late.
Alexei flipped the entire board when he landed on Ava's hotel. She smirked as she scooped up all of his money, leaving him bankrupt.
Bucky, deadpanned, "This is how civil wars start."
The team decided to test out their artistic abilities next with a good game of Pictionary.
"I'll go first, I guess," Bob said, picking up a card from the set. "Okay, I can do this." He started drawing on the board and everyone started yelling their guesses.
"Dog."
"Truck."
"Giraffe."
"Zebra."
"It's not an animal, guys."
"You can't talk."
"Time's up," Bucky announced.
"It's an airplace," Bob beamed.
"Oh, honey, no," Briar winced.
John went next. He kept writing words on his drawings.
Ava drew a knife for her turn. Yelena guessed "Thursday." She was right.
Bucky drew a spider and started drawing lines over it. Then, he drew flames surrounding the spider.
"Spider-Man," Briar said, unimpressed with her boyfriend's hatred of the friendly neighborhood superhero.
Alexei drew what he claimed was a dolphin. It looked like trauma.
"I think we played every game possible," Yelena said, hiding "Clue" and "Catan" before anyone could see them.
"No... time for charades," Briar said, holding up the box.
Walker went first, miming "The Godfather" by attempting to strangle himself.
Ava hit the buzzer first and stared for thirty seconds while he continued strangling himself.
"You can guess now," John huffed.
"No, I'm waiting til you run out of air."
Yelena and Briar kept acting out horror movies in full-on Fear Street mode. Briar even used her telekinesis for the dramatic flair.
Bob acted out "Titanic" by just lying dramatically on the floor.
Next, Ava acted out "Alien" so well that Bucky almost punched her.
Alexei had "Taylor Swift" and started singing songs. The problem was that they were all Selena Gomez songs, which threw the team off.
Bucky got "Frozen" and just stared at everyone until someone whispered, "emotional repression."
Yelena found a game they could play through a TikTok video. It was called Mafia. She explained the rules to the team, and they agreed to play.
Briar was the narrator. Everyone accused her of lying immediately.
Bob was the mafia. He outed himself by mimicking stabbing noises on his turn.
Yelena gaslit the entire group and got Bucky eliminated in round one.
Ava said, "I don't care if I'm guilty or innocent. I'm killing John."
John took it personally. Tried to vote Ava off every round after.
Alexei accused everyone every turn and got kicked out for "general chaos.
Bucky, who could finally speak once the game ended, said, "I'm starting to see why no one likes game night.
Briar grinned, "I like it."
It was now 12 AM.
The Monopoly board is in flames. UNO cards are scattered across three rooms.
Bob is asleep, hugging a Falcon plushie.
Alexei is wearing the Sorry! game pieces as earrings.
John is mumbling a 5-minute speech about game integrity. He was interrupted many times by his own yawns.
Ava is sharpening a pencil - and a dagger - "just in case."
Briar is laughing maniacally with a crown made of Scrabble tiles and Monopoly hotels. And she is swimming in Monopoly money.
Bucky, drinking straight from the vodka bottle, whispered, "Never again."
Yelena, sitting on the couch like a victorious warlord, asked, "So... same time next week?"
