What do you like most about your learning?

Throughout my learning, I have liked how much freedom we have with choosing what we wanted to focus on or research. For a majority of the projects we have completed, we were able to have the freedom to decide what we wanted to do out projects on with the only restrictions being what the topic of the project was. This lead to more individualistic and unique projects between the class.

I also enjoyed the freedom of choosing topics for our projects. In a way it didn’t feel like we were forced to do the assignments because we had a choice. It also made the assignments more enjoyable because not everybody has the same interests.

What do you like most about your learning?:

Something I like most about my learning is developing better management skills. I feel I have already developed time management well in high school, however, college is an entire new level....And one I am happy for! Developing better writing skills, learning opportunities, amongst other things has been the best part.

This is a very good skill to develop as you are learning. It is important to stay on task and maintain your skills as you continue to go through a learning process.. developing writing skills will help you with your future careers as well.

What are you most proud of with your writing process? 

I am most proud of being able to write two different audiences. I never knew that there was a certain way to write for specific audiences but when you adjust your writing, you have more interaction with your audience. This will help me for the future, to be more professional with conversations and to separate my professional life from a social setting.

In this class, specifically, I have learned to adjust writing towards specific audiences, I have learned to grasp the concept of web rating as a whole, and I have learned to be more professional with my writing. In previous times would always worry about writing components for classes because I felt like I was never a strong writer. This class helped me face my writing fears.

What do you like the most about your essay?

What I like most about this essay in general is that these questions are focused towards my opinions and thoughts. I always write better. I can express my thoughts and opinions because it seems to flow more naturally. Usually, I am worried about the amount of words needed to fill the page, but in this type of essay, I do not have that type of feeling.

Share an example of your favorite TV show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand an angry fandom?

One of my favorite shows, Family Guy, is no stranger to criticism (as it sometimes deserves.) Fans complain constantly about the show's quality declining, the cut-away gags being too political or focused on insulting celebrities, or the show shying away from the offensive or "edgy humor" of the early seasons. I actually was able to find a lot of insight on this project from Reddit, looking at how fans react and respond to changes in TV shows. Looking up Family Guy, I can see that a majority of fans are unhappy with the declining quality of the show. The show writer and star, Seth McFarlane, has stepped away from the show multiple times and even called for its cancellation during the end of several seasons, but its popularity led it to be continued by the executives. Sometimes a show cancellation (or lack thereof) is not solely up to the writer or creator. If the show continues to make more money than it costs to produce, it will continue to run and bring in revenue for the network. If the show makes less money than it costs to produce, then it has a higher likelihood of getting cancelled.

I agree with show cancellation reasons but I do wish that writers and directors have more time to announce so their fans can prepare and not get so angry.

Being a Fan of a Canceled Show :(

One of my experiences of being a fan of a show that got canceled was with the show I Am Not Okay With This. The show came out on Netflix in early 2020, just before the pandemic became widespread across America. It was based on a graphic novel that had gained some popularity in recent years. There have been a large number of shows that were very good adaptations from their comic/graphic novel form, and it seems like the majority of shows that come from this source are canceled too soon. I Am Not Okay With This had the same feel (to me) as the show Stranger Things, which I had also watched on Netflix. After seeing the previews/trailers for the show it seemed to me like a good coming of age story that also was able to include supernatural elements. After watching the first season, I was hooked and fully invested in the story and characters, not to mention the extreme cliffhanger that the last episode ended on. To hear that this show was not coming back, and there would be no season two or any real end to the story in the form of television, I was very disheartened, but went on to read and learn more about the story through the original graphic novels.

I had a similar experience with the Pandemic. It was heartbreaking to see so many shows stop because of the pandemic. It is so hard when you are glued to a TV series and they just shut it off before you have time to process.

This is an example of an angry fan post and a response from the studio. How does this look? Does it look like a Tweet?

I think this format works well, I would say to maybe include hashtags or emojis to show that the poster is angry or expressing to a larger crowd. So far it is a good post, but does not seem as angry as I believe you intended.

I also think this format works well. You could make even say something that you binged the show or that got people hooked on it as well!

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?:

A favorite show of mine currently is The Rookie on Hulu! Although I love the show and haven't seen any backlash directly, I could understand if someone was angry since there was a delay in the new season reveal. It makes sense as an audience to be a big fan of a show or movie and makes even more sense if the viewer makes a bond with it. If an audience member makes a bond with a specific production, angry fandom is likely to happen which is why companies should have good writers who understand how to respond to this.

I had a similar issue with my favorite show because there was a delay. I used to have watch parties with my friends and because of the delay, we were all upset that there wasn’t anything to watch on those specific week nights. The writer was good so we are still sticking by and waiting for our next season

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie- how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?

My favorite show is Euphoria. This is a great example of how to understand angry fandom because they had to quit making season three because of Covid19 once they started to get ideas for season three it had to stop again because sadly one of the characters had passed away. Season two is on a cliffhanger that we need to know what it’s going to be like in season three. They now need to come up with a new storyline because the actors are much older and they’re missing a character.

An example of a show that was canceled was Orange is the new Black. So many people love the show on Netflix because of the crazy stories behind bars. There were so many people involved with so many dramatic situations that once it ended, you wanted to know the ending of each situation.

I am confused on what I needed to complete to get full credit for Draft Part 1. The feedback says “You need to focus on the assignment asks. Please revise and resubmit this!!!” I do not understand what I did wrong. I just want to make sure I understand the full assignment.

TikTok Style Rule

I think that a style rule I would write for creating a TikTok video would be to keep it short and funny. I am (admittedly) a frequent TikTok user/scroller and most of the videos I enjoy are intentionally comedy videos or videos that come off as funny unintentionally. Both types of videos tend to show up on my For You Page, and lots of them have gone viral/had millions of likes and even more views. Tiktok is a very unique space where short, funny videos do well, almost the same way as the now shutdown social media space Vine did. While Vine had a maximum video length of less than ten seconds, TikTok videos are able to be much longer, but I have noticed that shorter videos are more popular.

I think that the shortest TikTok videos are the most popular because the app is used to see as much context as possible while scrolling. Getting your point across quickly is very important and it is always nice to have a funny aspect of your post also!

Style Rule for a Tumblr Post.

Throughout all the Tumblr posts I've created and written so far, I found that a good rule of thumb to help get noticed by others is to start up a conversation. Asking a question, or asking for help, or just wanting to know what's going on in the world can strike up talk between people. I found that simply talking about or giving random updates on work that I've done doesn't garner enough talk, but putting your foot forward and starting the talk yourself is the best way to get feedback and responses from people.

I agree that this is a great way to attract an audience. It is also important to add a visual with your post so that throughout the conversation, the audience can look back at the photo or gif and understand the context of your questions.
