what almost drowning feels like

Confusing and terrifying.

You’re stuck in the middle of water with no way to push yourself anywhere. You can’t see anything, and you frantically kick your feet and try to push yourself up, but you can’t. The ground is too far away.

You want to wave your hands to catch someone’s attention, but you’re struggling just to keep you head up. Your head dips under the water, and you flail your arms just enough to get above water and catch another breath before you go under again.

No one sees you, and you can’t scream, because you need to focus on breathing. Your lungs burn; you aren’t getting enough air. You know that the next time you go under, you won’t be able to come back up.

Then your friend jumps in as you stop moving and give up. He pulls you to the side of the pool and you manage to recover. Breathing is hard, your lungs are filled with water as u feel, u can’t stop coughing ... it’s so scary
