i pretend like i don't miss my hometown but really i miss the thick july air and the way it wrapped its hands around my throat until the blood vacated my head. i miss the scent of rocks filtering through my bedroom window and the heat mirages on the road on our way to nowhere and the way the sky turned yellow right before a thunderstorm and when the power would go out some evenings and all we could do was drive around in the dark searching for anything we could get our hands on.
