April found that tidbit intriguing. After all, April had never gotten tired of the whirlwind European adventures she went on. She found monotony dull. She got restless quickly and wanted to run. Coming to Swynlake seemed like a prison sentence.

She supposed there was probably a unique charm to the town when you didn't live here. But the shine had worn off for April long ago. Instead she wore it like a guilded second skin. People were intrigued by her being an heiress, by her being from a magic town but without any magic herself--which made her safe to talk about it with--

It gave her the attention she craved. Whereas, in Swynlake, she and her sisters were old news. Swynlakers were rarely phased by the rich and famous. One of it's consistently charming qualities.

"Oh," she pouted when it turned out that Angel had put down roots, instead of just flitting through.

But, she perked up again immediately. "Sure! I mean--if you go that way, you'll hit some shops and shit, you go that way--" she turned the other direction "--more buildings. Stores. Whatever. Annnnd--there you go, tour done!" she joked.

"Oh, wait. I forgot the singular stoplight."

Angel genuinely enjoyed talking to April because it felt like she'd bumped into one of her old friends back in California. She understood better than most how boring being in the same place for an extended amount of time could be (especially if it was against your will) but she had to admit that settling down even just for a few months was a nice break from touring around the world.

"Shops and shit, buildings, stoplight... got it, shouldn't be too hard to remember." She laughed. "I'm assuming there's not much of a nightlife? Not that it would really be like I'm missing out on anything, the whole point of me being here is the write music and not get distracted by partying, but still, it'd be nice to have that option, you know?"

Hera did thin the other woman looked vaguely familiar, but she couldn't think of why; she hadn't seen her around in Swynlake before, that was for certain. Hera liked to think she knew most faces around town, a combination of now having lived here so long and her work getting her out and about.

"Well, if you're wanting to save a bit of money, there's From Farm To Table," Hera said, looking down the street towards the second hand shop. "And if budget isn't an issue," Which she didn't think it was, looking at the girl, but she supposed who was she to judge? "There's Queen Bee, on the other side of the crossroads there. I was heading along that way myself, if you'd like a tour."

Angel smiled. "Saving money isn't really my thing, there's no fun in it. But that Queen Bee place sounds like it's right up my alley! Sure you don't mind showing me around? I don't wanna be a burden." She didn't actually think she was being a burden, she'd just learned through experience that it was best to pretend to be worried about small things like that. Being famous came with lots of stupid rules like that, things she had to keep in mind so she didn't look too self centered... at least, that's what the PR person had drilled into her head.

One of the things about the modern world which had really surprised Bullseye was the resurgence in popularity of records. He had never seriously thought about getting rid of his record player, but he had always wondered if he would be able to replace it if it ever broke. So he had been very glad to see that there was a record shop in town.

He had not bought any albums in a long time, and had decided to finally make a trip over there. which he was in the process of doing when he heard someone speak. Bullseye was not sure if she was talking to him, but seeing as no one else was in the immediate vicinity, he could only assume that she was.

"Uh, yeah? I mean, I guess it depends on what you like? I know it's not quite like th' set-up in a big city, but there's plenty o' interestin' things t' check out. Like there's this place that sells really cool rock stuff over there, an' there's a record shop, which is where I was headed."

The infamous Rocke Shoppe. Angel had heard of it in passing and she had to admit that it didn't sound like something she'd be too interested in. Not yet, anyway. "Did I make it that obvious that I'm used to shopping in a big city?"

A record shop could be fun, and if it was anything like the new age shops she'd frequented in the past they might even have her own albums in stock.

"Well, since I don't have anything else to do I guess a record shop would be the best way to waste the afternoon. Lead the way." She motioned in the direction that the stranger had been heading. "I'm Angel, by the way."

“I actually just finished work and was deciding what to do next,” Maddy admitted. “But visiting the thrift store sounds like an absolutely perfect way to spend the rest of my afternoon. I do need some new sunglasses.”

Maddy went through them so fast. Her mom had always scolded her, but she couldn’t help it. Sunglasses weren’t meant to be treasured. They were meant to be worn on the top of her head as the sea wind whipped around her.

Angel smiled. "Sounds like perfect timing! And everyone needs new sunglasses every once in a while, there's no such thing as too many. I had a hard time picking which ones I wanted to wear for this outing - I'm kind've a collector, I guess." She giggled at herself and pointed at her own oversized sunglasses.

April was nodding along. She hadn't gotten tickets to Angel's world tour because it was too expensive. But, she'd watched a live on TikTok at one point that streamed the whole show...so, if pressed, she could lie about it. She didn't want Angel to think she couldn't afford tickets!! Haha!!

"That's Porty," April said, feeling pleased that not only was she about to stroll down the street with a popstar, but a popstar who actually knew and appreciated who she was. Gosh, she had missed this. In Swynlake, she and her family were respected (if not a bit eccentric) staples, but outside of it she was recognized.

It had been too long.

"And of course you can come along! We were headed to the park." And who cared if she was late for work? Not April.

"And yes, we're of the von Drake Tiptons." She smiled indulgently as they started on their way. "Our flagship hotel is right here in Swynlake! Are you staying there? I swear, my sister never tells me anything. What is the point of having her work the front desk?" she lamented, ignoring the fact there were rules about giving out guest's information.

The rules did not apply to her.

"Nice to meet you, Porty." Angel cautiously gave the dog a soft pat before turning her attention back to April with a smile. "The park sounds great, I'm in need of some fresh air and sunlight. Being on the road nonstop is fun for a little bit but eventually all you want is a home base and some free time." Was she talking too much about her career? Nah, she didn't think so. People were always interested in her life - the occasional behind the scenes vlogs she posted online always went viral instantaneously. Thankfully her parasocial fans kept her relevant.

Working the front desk? Angel was shocked but successfully kept it from showing on her face. She knew two other hotel heiresses that thought working for the family's business meant a couple commercials and photoshoots, not actually checking guests in. Maybe the von Drake family had those old school values that insisted that each generation understand what it felt like to actually do the work instead of just reaping the benefits.

Poor souls.

"I'm not staying there this time unfortunately since I decided on a house - I didn't know how long I'd be here and I didn't wanna overstay my welcome." She added jokingly, falling into step alongside April and Porty. "If you ever have time I wouldn't say no to a tour of the town at some point. I didn't wanna make a big deal about being here so I've been flying under the radar." Mostly.

Nuka was no longer the newest person around. At least so it seemed with a woman looking around and judging the little shops that were all over main street. Not that he could blame her. There were a few that really weren't worth anyone's time. Especially the one with the rocks. And maybe the antique store. He saw no use for that.

"Honestly? I wouldn't say that a lot of them are," Nuka said after a moment. "Especially not that Rock Shoppe or whatever it's called. Waste of time and money," Nuka insisted. "But there's a few gimmick shops like that around here."

But Nuka didn't spend his money on useless things in general. So it wasn't much for him. "The tea shop's pretty good though if you like a hot drink. Has good coffee too."

"Rock Shoppe? What, do they only sell rocks or something?" Angel scoffed at the ridiculousness of the idea. "I'm more in the market for clothes or little pieces for my house so I can get settled in, but some coffee doesn't sound too bad. I think the jetlag is starting to catch up with me." She offered a nice enough smile, not wanting to come across rude. "Mind pointing me in the right direction?"

Sorrel was prone to wandering and now that he had the summer to do so, with only some regrets about not taking classes during the break to keep himself occupied part of the time, he tried to throw himself into the task of running errands. And his antlers were finally shedding their outer fuzzy layer back to their usual white instead so at least he wasn't bored and dealing with every breeze setting off an intense itching sensation.

He was counting it as a good day, if not a bit dull.

Back from his second trek to the Rock Shoppe that day to drop off drinks, he ended up on Main Street just people watching. It was one of those times of year tourists lingered around, they also stared a lot but he couldn't really fault them for that.

Sometimes the conversations were very interesting now, if he could convince them to talk about places they were from and he had never been.

"Oh, most of them are a bit eccentric, but that's what makes them interesting," he offered, because the woman was a stranger and that nagged at his curiosity instantly. Although it might have been a bit intrusive, an afterthought, and he didn't want to do that. "Was there something you were looking for?" Sorrel amended, trying instead to be helpful.

The moment Angel laid eyes on the stranger she could feel her shoulders relax the smallest amount. Finally, she thought to herself, someone interesting. "Oh yeah, I've noticed a lot of places around here are totally eccentric, but when you spend most of your time in boring LA like me sometimes you need that." To most Los Angeles, or even being a public figure, wouldn't have been "boring", but to Angel getting away from the everyday hustle and bustle every once in a while was exactly what she needed to help get her creative flow going again.

"I wasn't looking for anything specific, I just have time and money to waste." She held out her hand. "I'm Angel."

Angel frowned and tilted her head. Did she look like she needed affordable? She knew she should have gone with the flashy outfit she'd originally planned instead of opting to be more subtle. She didn't want to look broke!

"Oh? Are the clothes there at least cute?" In her experience affordable didn't always mean fashionable. "I know this isn't like a mega shopping hub or anything but I need cute clothes."

April was very familiar with this game. Angel said her name the same way that April always said hers. With the rest implied. And, while yes, she was not a famous pop star, she was famous around Swynlake. At the moment, that was what mattered.

(At least, that's what April told herself.)

Besides, she only wanted to impress Angel enough to be invited into her circle. April missed the glamorous life of models, pop stars, and actors. She yearned for it.

There was a snap decision to be made: was Angel the type who wanted flattery or disguise?

"Oh, I know!" April said, smiling and shaking Angel's hand. "I listen to your music. Though, I almost didn't recognize you, didn't expect you in Swynlake! I'm April von Drake. Salut to our humble little town." She stuck one leg behind her in a quick curtsy--obviously ironic.

Angel's smile slowly grew in size - sometimes all she needed in order to lift her mood was a little bit of flattery. "Oh, do you?!" It was said with mock surprise but she played it off well. "I'm flattered. Did you see the world tour I just wrapped up a few weeks ago? It was so much work but I hated to see it come to an end. I came here to get away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles to work on some new music in peace and I have to say that I'm excited with how it's going - it's gonna be such a fun era... but I can't say anything else, my manager would kill me." She giggled and offered a playful wink.

"Von Drake?" Angel pushed her sunglasses on top of her head, her interest officially piqued. "As in the owners of the Tipton? I've stayed there loads of times and have always been treated like royalty, there's no hotel I would recommend more to my friends!"

She couldn't have chosen a better situation to find herself in: April was beautiful and a hotel heiress... she was absolutely the kind of person Angel would want to have in her circle in Swynlake. "It's a pleasure to meet you, April! Mind if I intrude on your walk?" Angel turned her attention to April's dog with a smile. "And who is this handsome guy?"

Banzai had noticed the glasses first. A statement piece sure but he had also heard the buzz around. Yet again a potential C list celebrity had made their way to Swynlake. It had even gotten his cousins attention...since she was the one to texted him about it first.

A pop start was in his area. Big fucking whoop honestly.

Yeah that was easy to say until he was out to grab himself a coffee and he spotted her. The glasses gave it away. Only the girls who thought they were something around town dressed like that. Georgette...Isabella...or whatever the broads names who ran that boutique.

Banzai misses prep school and Trimount - less trash around.

Unable to keep his mouth shut he stopped just as he past her and shook his head. "Well depends on what you're lookin for sweet heart..."

April was out walking her dog, Portobello, before work. (Bleh.) She had had her headphones in but--she had stopped walking when she spotted Angelina Strong walking down the street.

She looked over her shoulder like she was being punked. What was a pop star doing in Swynlake?

April stopped her music and headed towards her, plotting how to rope the musician into conversation. It wasn't that April was starstruck necessarily (she was). She had rubbed shoulders with plenty of famous celebrities over the years.

As fortune had it, she didn't even have to come up with some roundabout plan! Angel spoke to her first.

Lifting her sunglasses, April snorted. "Only some, but mostly not at all. Welcome to one of the most boring places in England, unless, of course, the gates of the Underworld are opening or maniac vampires are trying to take the place over."

"Oh well, they can't all be winners. I think after having a few shopping sprees in Paris I'm spoiled and expect every place to be that kind of retail paradise." She let out an exasperated (and very overdramatic) huff. "What do you do for fun around here then? Hopefully walking your dog isn't the highlight of your day?" Angel held out her hand with a limp wrist, more so to show off her fresh manicure than to really initiate a handshake. "I'm Angel." But I'm sure you already knew that, she added to herself.

Maddy couldn’t quite put a name to her face, though. The big sunglasses certainly didn’t help. Swynlake was the sort of small town where you started seeing the same faces over and over again. But this girl wasn’t familiar in that way…

It was bugging her — but it also made Maddy want to talk to her!

“Well I guess that depends on what you’re looking for!” she chimed. “There’s a super glamorous boutique near the gym. Run by Alana Triton and Marie Bonfamille? It’s so nice.” And very out of Maddy’s price range. “But if thrifting is more your speed, I absolutely love From Farm To Table.”

Angel was an expert at spotting the look of vague recognition in someone's eye and she wasn't entirely disappointed to find that look now. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if just one person in this town recognized her...

"A boutique," Angel shrugged with a slight frown, "I've had my fill for now. That thrift store you mentioned sounds interesting, I could use some new pieces in my house to make it feel more like home. Are you headed there now or were you going somewhere else?"

Hera was having a very rare day off; well, they were perhaps not so rare anymore. Since the arrival of Lucina, she had taken more time off than she ever had before, because now she had a reason to. And what she also needed, she had come to realise, was more baby clothes. Lucina was growing out of them faster than Hera could dress her in them, and with the summer weather so changeable, she needed an entire wardrobe.

She had stopped briefly on Main Street to peer into the window of one of the small boutiques, squinting past the summer sun bouncing off the glass, when she heard a voice beside her. Hera turned, and with a slight shrug, she said, "I suppose that depends on what you're in the market for. Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"

Angel adjusted her sunglasses and observed the woman beside her for a moment before deciding that she liked her style; in her mind anyone who knew how to put together a decent outfit was worthy of conversation.

Antonio tilted his head a bit before letting off a faint smile. To most this was out of character, the old him would have made some snarky remarks or even pick a fight with this stranger.

However, Swynlake had humbled him. Even if Karnage didn’t want to admit it.

Although it did not get the delusion that everyone secretly loved him and wants to be his friend. “ Of course!” The man admitted, “ only the best for the most handsomest and talented man in Swynlake.” He smirked a bit.

Finally the boasting was over. ( At least for now. ) “ hmmm… I don’t know…” he hummed. “ this might sound like a funny, but, I’ve only had original flavors, not these new flavors. “

Angel couldn't help but let out a scoff. While she appreciated the confidence she didn't take too kindly to others who didn't recognize her brilliance, even if the stranger didn't really know who she was. A quick Google search would clear that up, but she wasn't in the mood for fan photos.

"Handsome, absolutely. Talented... I've still yet to see. Do you sing? Dance? Paint? I'd love to know so I can give my verdict." She gave her best award-winning smile and fluttered her lashes. Sometimes flattery was the best was to go. "I'm Angel. Unfortunately I don't have any cool monikers that everyone around town calls me by, but maybe one day I will."

New flavors? And here Angel thought that suggesting one of the most popular flavors in the world was boring. "Ah, then you have to try something new! Cookies and cream is perfect if you're wanting a mix of new and old - it's just different enough to satisfy your curiosity but familiar enough to be comforting."

Despite Angel’s public announcement to her fans that she would be taking some time away from the spotlight in order to focus solely on her music she didn’t actually plan on disappearing completely. She’d wanted to get away from California to sightsee and gain new experiences elsewhere that might help with her creative drive, but she didn’t have it in her to be put on the backburner for an undetermined amount of time. She thrived on attention and could never go too long without at least a sliver of it.

Having put on the largest pair of sunglasses in her collection, Angel had decided that she would take a walk around town in order to familiarize herself with the new surroundings and maybe even a neighbor or two; she was bored and shopping with others was the best way to cure her boredom.

“Are any of these shops even worth visiting?” She said aloud to no one in particular.
