KOVU:
What was wrong with him?Â
Finally, Kovu understood what drove people to drinking. To the drugs his family provided.
He felt keyed up. Sick to his stomach. Unable to sleep. It felt like everything was falling apart. Kovu didnât understand.
His whole life, heâd been raised for the task he had now been set upon but as soon as the moment finally came, he was floundering. He had been trained for taking over InterPride, he knew everything about it. Could quote statistics and projections all day long. He knew not just about the London office, or the Swynlake office, but all of them. And he knew the laws that governed them. He knew the family history. His grandfather Geoffery, his great-grandfather Bartholmew. His great-aunt who died. His step-grandmother, the American.Â
It was all supposed to be his. His familyâs. Simba had no right to do what he did. Not when the by-laws specifically said that it should be passed from heir to heir.Â
Kovu was also an heir. He just had to bide his time before he could reveal himself and take his birthright. Then, his mother wouldnât have to sell drugs. His siblings wouldnât have to sell drugs. They could make an honest living.Â
And, yet, Kovu felt like he was failing.
At every turn, things were going poorly. The scandal with Lottie and June. Not winning prom king. The proprietor of his petition for drunk driving getting in a high-speed car accident. The bloody part in the play heâd gotten being almost a one-to-one recreation of the goddamn terrorist attack that had shaken up the town.Â
And now, his wallet had been stolen. By someone who had called themself his friend.Â
Kovu had never fucked anything up in his life this badly. He was pissed at June, but he was mostly pissed at himself. Â
And now, because he couldnât sleep. Because his mind was tortured with wondering how it had all gone wrong, why June hated him enough and was petty enough to steal his wallet, consumed with getting his petition passed, and shoved full of his lines from the playâhe had forgotten he had a meeting today to prepare for.Â
