I wish you could be free in August. You can imagine that, at least! A whole month, far from the world, in the heat, the sun, the laziness, the intimacy of the body! I burst with life and desire when I think about it.
Albert Camus, Correspondance: 1944-1959
There’s something so perfect about a peaceful morning with the house to myself, a cup of coffee and three hours with nothing planned.
Being desired means nothing if no one is curious about your mind.
Susan Sontag, Reborn: Journals and Notebooks, 1947-1963.
unfortunately, i finally have come to realize that my future mother in law is such an overbearing grandmother. from unsolicited and outdated parenting advice to comments about my postpartum mood, it is all too much! today was so bad that i literally had to excuse myself from sunday dinner and just had to lock myself in the bathroom with the lights out for like 5 mins to reset, then pretend to blame it on my period. his maternal family is quite literally male dominant and she’s a boy mom too which i am convinced is the reason for her behavior… the empathy and emotional intelligence is lacking. don’t even get me started with the way she physically handles my daughter and insists on taking her out without me around, it makes my skin crawl! most offensively of all, she has the balls to comment about how she barely sees my mom around!!! relevant to note that my future MIL is a retired boomer compared to my mom who is in her early 50s and still working full time… as of now, my mom is helping out in an administrative way by doing what she can to help with buying diapers, baby clothes, etc while also contributing to my daughter’s college fund every month. in fact, i love that my mom leaves me alone tbh she knows her baby girl loves peace! irl lorelei gilmore <3
i know my future MIL wants to help and i’m incredibly grateful for her involvement, it’s just that i’m so not used to this from a maternal figure and she’s simply not used to having daughters around. my fiancé acknowledges her naivety and has educated her/given feedback but it’s still not enough. most of the time he says “she’s old school” and brings up that she’s from hungary which is not a good excuse lol i grew up in a female dominated family with a whimsigoth gen x yoga mom, so this is a new electraesque complex dilemma i’m going through at my big age! regardless of all the bullshit she spews, i will continue to do my best to communicate with her and be graceful with it because she’s not the only non blood related woman to do this to me (her sister/my fiancé’s aunt)
