Today’s character- the Twelfth Doctor, from Doctor Who

Nine was born from war. His darkness was more pronounced, his frustration over the human race the most vocal. He alienated himself from the human race, and advocated peace to the highest degree. He was fresh out of a genocide of his own design, and he was unwilling to even brush against that part of him ever again. Even against the Daleks, he refused to destroy. Nine was born from war.

Ten was born from love and adoration of the human race.  He changed himself for Rose; he made himself more approachable, silly and much more human. He engaged himself in human traditions, sat down to Christmas dinner and did whatever it took to protect the human race. He favoured humans over all other species, even his own. His darkness was probably the least pronounced of the New Who Crew; it only wavered when he met the Master again. Even then, the first emotion he sought was love. Love for his friend, love for a chance at righting past wrongs. Ten was born from love.

Eleven was born from loss. He watched all his friends leave him and with this new regeneration he never saw them again, never crossed their paths. He created a new image for himself and alienated himself much like Nine did. Eleven had a young face, but he was old in every other way. He made it clear that he was an alien - that he was different and ancient - and he was so adamant to remain that way that finding he could cry ‘happy tears’ was a revelation. Eleven was born from loss.

Twelve was born from acceptance. He grew into an old man as Eleven and had the chance to understand everything about his own nature. Every other past Doctor had refused to see the darkness in them, had refused to embrace it, but Twelve more than anyone else made that darkness a key part of his character. He enjoyed his mania, he enjoyed his anger. He made himself Scottish, learning from Amy that channeling that anger and frustration was not always a bad thing. He could get away with more, and above all else he accepted that he had seen bad things, that he was responsible for death and destruction, that he had killed and he had seen worlds die. And he didn’t let this overwhelm him. Instead he used it; he used that darkness and turned himself into a weapon. A weapon that he allowed his friends, his human companions, to control. He understood his power, he was not consumed by it. He allowed himself to be guided because for the first time, he truly understood who he was. Twelve was born from acceptance.
