What Will Become of the Boy (Rooftop) - Sarah's Song (my version!!!)
Don't tell my boss but I just spent the last hour of work writing and recording a song for Sarah shh!
I believe it was @make-friends-with-the-rats who said, what if the instrumental of Rooftop was actually part of What Will Become of the Boy?
I've thought about this for a long, long time and today was the day inspiration struck. I picture this coming in after Sarah finds Denton's article in her drawer (thanks, Les) and remains one of the last ones with any hope.
I also wanted this to be a bit about her, not just Jack. She's the one making the next move. So the opening verse is more about her wondering if she can step into the role of the brave one now.
This was my first attempt at writing and recording new song for a musical and I really enjoyed it! I dedicate this to the entire newsie fandom. Thank you for inspiring me and keeping the newsie-verse alive. Y'all do more than you know :)
The lyrics:
What makes somebody brave enough to stand? Be the voice of the people Caught inside of a wheel turn by command?
Do we dare to hope?
What will become of them? What will become of the boy who defied them then shook on some deal he was given?
Am I foolish to think I’d help the plan Will the others stand with me? How can I sit and wait for another chance?
I know I’m brave, like… him
What will become of men? Too stubborn with demands? What will become of him?
Why do I care?
Santa Fe, Everyday, Is it you that keeps him dreaming? Is it you that will be taking him away?
All I need’s a few more hours To convince him to stay
Jack, I'll be your Santa Fe
