Chaosism in Trumptopia
The Myth of "Familial Lineage" in Magic(k)
I sometimes run across someone who believes they have some mystical/magic(k)al power by birthright. "My Mother/Father had such and such gift" and what-not. This type of thinking is based on several cognitive biases, is at best lazy (and more than a little egotistical) and at worst sociopathic. It has absolutely no place in modern occultism. The simple fact is, Magic(k) is a learned skill. That being said, it does (in many ways), benefit from a child-like mind, and lessons learned in childhood do seem to help.Â
For example, my father enrolled me in martial arts classes while I was still in elementary school. Meditation and the concept of Chi came very easily for me. My father, who was also enrolled in said classes, said he never really "got it" because it was such an unbelievable foreign concept to him.Â
I was also raised in a very religious environment where prayer could cause change. While my ideas of spirituality have certainly changed over the years, I do think that some of the concepts of my family have rubbed off.Â
Back to my point, though. In "Old School" Chaos Magic(k) there is a term, Magusitis, for people who think theyâve reached some exalted state above others. At times, we're probably all guilty of it. The truth is that Magic(k) is a lifelong process. There are no short cuts. It takes a lot of hard work. This comes by studying those who've come before you and a plethora of experimentation.

True Will and other lies they told me in "Magic(k) school" pt. 1
I was having a conversation with a friend the other day. He's currently in the throes of a very real submersion into ThelemaâŚwell into what I'd consider "True Believer" mode. The concept of True Will, one of the central tenets of Thelemic philosophy came up.
True Will, in Thelema, Â is sometimes defined as a person's grand destiny in life, and at other times as a moment to moment path of action that operates in perfect harmony with Nature. This Will does not spring from conscious intent, but from the interplay between the deepest Self and the entire Universe. Thelemites in touch with their True Will are said to have eliminated or bypassed their false desires, conflicts, and habits, and accessed their connection with the divine.
The above paragraph is the one thing that has led me to consider myself a Thelemite for many years. Long after my adoration for Crowley had faded I still had a firm belief in the idea of True Will, and to be a Thelemite, one need only seek to find their True Will and accomplish it.
The Truth is, there may well be no Truth. There may well be no "grand destiny" in life, no "perfect harmony with Nature", and no Divine with which to find any "connection".
In my experience, the universe is Chaos, and there is no purpose or meaning other than that which we decide for ourselves. And on this day I no longer consider myself a Thelemite in any sense of the word.
There is no "Holy Guardian Angel" waiting in your future, when you've reached a certain level of adepthood, to show you the way. You're going to always have to make your own way. And you're going to fuck up from time to time. You're going to do things you'll regret. You're going to make mistakes. To invoke the Buddhist in me, Life is sufferingâŚâŚand to quote A.O. Spare, "you shall suffer all things until you have sufficient sufferance to accept all things."
I was a member of TOPY for several years. The opening lines of their manifesto, "The Grey Book", have always been more meaningful to me than anything Crowley ever penned concerning the "Great Work". (excuse the weird spelling. It was a TOPY thing)
Thee Temple strives to end personal laziness and engender discipline. To focus thee Will on one's true desires, in thee belief, gathered from experience that this maximises and makes happen all those things that one wants in every area ov life. Explore daily your deepest desires, fantasies and motives, gradually focusing on what you would like to happen in a perfect world, a perfect situation, taking away all restrictions and practical considerations, what you would really want. Then decide to try and do it. Thee mere visualisation ov that true goal begins thee process that makes it happen. Clean out thee trappings and debris ov compromise, ov what you have been told is reasonable for a person in your circumstances. Be clear in admitting your real desires. Discard all irrelevancies. Ask yourself who you want as friends, if you need or want to work, what you want to eat. Check and re-check everything deeper and deeper, more and more precisely to get closer and ultimately integrate with your real Self. Once you are focused on yourself internally, thee external aspects ov your life will fall into place. They have to. Sceptics will say they simply don't believe this Psychick process works, but it does. It is thee Key to thee Temple.
âThere is no part of oneâs beliefs about oneself which cannot be modified by sufficiently powerful psychological techniques. There is nothing about oneself which cannot be taken away or changed. The proper stimuli can, if correctly applied, turn communists into fascists, saints into devils, the meek into heroes, and vice-versa. There is no sovereign sanctuary within ourseles which represents our real nature. There is nobody at home in the internal fortress. Everything we cherish as our ego, everything we believe in, is just what we have cobbled together out of the accident of our birth and subsequent experiences. With drugs, brainwashing, and other techniques of extreme persuasion, we can quite readily make a man a devotee of a different ideology, the patriot of a different country, or the follower of a different religion.â â Peter J. Carroll
Banishing pt. 1
In almost any book on Magic(k) one of the first things youâre likely to encounter is a Banishing Ritual or at the very least some form of instruction on Magic(k)al or Psychic protection. I whole-heartedly agree that Banishing Rituals and Magickal/Psychic Protection techniques are some of the first practical exercises that one should learn, and learn well, in their study and practice of magic(k). There are several reasons for learning these techniques. Simply stated, Banishing means to send something away. The various techniques that belong to this category of practice can be and are used to clear the mind of distraction, and the general area of unwanted influences, not only before and after ritual work, but also in everyday life . Any ritual or technique used to ground, dissipate, neutralize or otherwise get rid of, or protect the magician from, general or specific unwanted energy, spirits, thought-forms, memories, emotions, etc. can be considered a form of Banishing.
In a lot of Magic(k)al practice, particularly ritual work, it is desirable to work in a "neutral" environment, free of any mundane or psychic influence, positive or negative. Many people are not able to have a great deal of privacy, such as a room which can be used solely for magical work. Itâs common practice for the modern magician to use areas which are used for other day-to-day activities for ritual work, meditation, and various magic(k)al endeavors. For this reason, itâs a good idea to begin and end any formal Magic(k)al work with some form of Banishing that seems appropriate to the work. These are techniques that center the magician within himself and his ritual space, and remove all unwanted energies that may interfere with the ritual. Banishing after magic(k)al work clears the area and helps ground the magician and return him or her to normal consciousness. This can sometimes be in the form of a preliminary Exorcism before or a License to Depart at the end of a working. These same techniques, in my experience, work just as well at removing unwanted energies from physical objects, your own mind, or even other people, such as in the case of an obsession or possession of some sort.
What about using Banishing in the "real" world, though? Have you ever been in an empty room and simply felt "uncomfortable"? Maybe you know someone who seems to have a certain "negativity" about them, or they seem to drain you physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually in some way whenever youâre near them. Weâve all experienced this. It can be extremely helpful to Banish when youâre in places where a large amount of negativity may be lingering, such as at work. Remember that Banishings function to remove unwanted energy, positive or negative, from the area that the magician is in. Also try Banishing such things as bad habits, negative situations, and unproductive emotional responses. Anything that the magician may need to "send away" can be Banished in some way.
Iâm a firm believer in the idea that a banishing should fit the situation. Whenever you plan to use a particular Banishing, ask yourself why it is being used and if itâs really the proper method. Some are and some arenât depending on what youâre intention is. When it comes to Banishing, there are no hard and fast rules. Remember, thereâs no one right way to do it, just the way that works for you. To illustrate the importance of having good knowledge and ability when it comes to Banishing, hereâs a story:
I was involved, for a short time several years ago, with a small group of magicians who were without a doubt....hardcore. I was invited to the home of one of the magicians for a day of marathon magick. I was told ahead of time to work on a quick, effective banishing technique.
We went into the basement. This was my first official meeting with the particular group I was working with. I was told, in a joking manner, "This is your first time at Fight Club, so you have to fight." It was explained that I was going to be involved in alot of ritual work, and that I had to be able to banish quickly, and well.
Iâd always thought of banishing as a way to balance and center, get in the right mind, create a working space, etc. I was not really prepared for what was about to happen. I was told that a demon was going to be evoked into a triangle on the floor in front of me, and my job was to make it go away in a timely manner.
I stood against the wall, breathing deeply and mentally preparing myself, while two guys performed a goetic-like evocation ritual about 3 feet in front of me. When they were done they told me "ok, itâs here." I saw nothing. I focused on the triangle and shouted a short incantation. A large banner flew off the wall on the other side of the room. Everybody kind of laughed, and said "Itâs still here". I repeated my performance, and began hearing A LOT of noise coming from outside....people yelling and stuff. "Thatâs to distract you. Focus. Ignore it." I repeated my Banishing again, and again. After some time I thought to myself "I cant do this". One of the other guys said "Yes you can", as if heâd heard my thoughts. I gave it one more go, from the heart, and they said it was gone.
The point......when your backs up against a wall, you better be able to banish quick and effectively.
I believe a banishing technique is a very personal thing. In my opinion, it is your belief in the banishing technique that empowers it and brings about the desired effect. By saying I think such things are personal I donât mean to say that I think learning other peoples techniques are a bad idea. In fact, I believe one should learn as many techniques of this sort that they can find. People are different, and therefore should experiment and find what works best for them. The point I am trying to make is that each person has their own view as to how and why things are and this should be utilized when creating your own Banishing methods. There is no limit on how many you can use or when to use them.
Essentially, a Banishing will be used for one, or several, of the following purposes: ⢠Grounding and Centering, ⢠Creating a neutral environment, ⢠as a License to Depart or an Exorcism, ⢠or as form of Magic(k)al/Psychic Self-Defense.
Banishing techniques and methods will generally be in the form of:
⢠Artifacts (such as Talismans and fetishes), ⢠simple or complex Ritualized Banishings, ⢠visualizations and/or energy manipulation such as Psionic-style Shielding, ⢠Words of Power in the style of the "Apo Pantos Kakodaimonos" in Crowleyâs Star Ruby ⢠or a combination of these different forms.
Grounding
Grounding techniques help bring the Magician back to a "normal" state of consciousness. This is often necessary after an intense ritual when one has spent a significant amount of time in an altered state of consciousness. Depending on the intent and nature of the ritual and the emotional/psychological state of the magician there may be some residule energy associated with the ritual. This is normal, but when the ritual is over it is necessary to return to a normal state of mind. If you have just performed, for example, a ritual to get revenge on an enemy, fueled by rage, you want to let that go when youâre done. On a lighter note, sometimes after a ritual you may just feel a bit unbalanced, or maybe somewhat euphoric, which also warrants a good grounding.
In everyday life, there are a multitude of "mundane" ways one can ground. People who are especially sensitive to the problems, emotional baggage, personal dramas or even physical pain of others can benefit greatly by grounding regularly, possibly several times daily. People like this are a form of Psychic Vampire, and grounding is a good way to Banish the draining effect they sometimes have. Grounding is also a good way to overcome stress and anxiety. Nearly everyone experiences these things from time to time for one reason or another, and finding ways to ground ourselves is a great solution to overcoming these feelings. One of the fastest ways to ground is to shock your body slightly. Splashing your face with cold water is probably the most common way to do it.
Focusing on breathing slowly and deeply as opposed to shallowly and rapidly is good, too. Ever heard the phrase "Take a deep breath and count to 10"? To do this, simply become aware of your breathing and slow it down. Breath in counting slowly and evenly to 4. Now hold your breath in for 4, Breath out 4, hold your breath for 4. Make sure you donât close your throat when holding your breath either in or out. Just use your lungs to stop your breath. Focus your attention on the sensation of your breath going in and out. Continue this exercise until you feel calm and grounded.
Paying close attention to things around you can help you reorient yourself.
Stretching and general body movement, such as waving your arms around or going for a walk, seem to be helpful as well.
Most anything that normally calms you down will help you to ground, such as watching TV, playing video games, reading, a relaxing bath or shower (which are easily ritualized through visualization), and even eating. In many religious and magic(k)al traditions a feast will follow ritual work, though the participants may not be aware of this reason, for the grounding effect a meal has. Sometimes you may not really feel like eating, but you should, if possible, have something sweet followed by a small amount of protein. High protein food is harder to digest and therefore redirects the personâs energy into their body. Moreover, high protein food will help adjust brain chemistry in the direction of normal beta wave consciousness.
Laughter might well be the best method, though, as many a seasoned Chaos Magician will attest.
Centering
Centering techniques generally focus upon oneâs center of gravity. Theyâre used for the purpose of helping the Magician summon energy and find stability for whatever work theyâre doing. Centering techniques focus the mind and get it ready to work. This type of technique should effectively "Banish" thoughts that arenât in accordance with your current work, whether that work is an Enochian Ritual, a math exam, or a job interview.
I personally use only one method of Centering. Iâve been using it since I was a kid and itâs always served me well. When I was about ten years old my father put me in Martial Arts classes because I was being picked on by neighborhood bullies. This not only led to the bullies not picking on me anymore, but also gave me a lifelong passion for such things as energy work and meditation. My martial arts instructor taught me about keeping one point of consciousness at the Dantian. The Dantian is used as a focal point for internal meditative techniques and refers specifically to the physical center of gravity located in the abdomen three finger widths below and two finger widths behind the navel. He demonstrated how maintaining "one point" was useful, not only in fighting, but in daily life. When he put his consciousness at his Dantian he became immovable. He could lay on beds of nails while grown men broke concrete blocks on his stomach with sledgehammers. Things like this tend to get the attention of a ten year old boy. During our meditations, people would sway and bounce from the energy they were cultivating. The instructor, from time to time, might even walk up and hit or kick them. They didnât lose their focus. I found that by putting my focus on my Dantian I was more balanced, stronger, more energetic, and more graceful.
So hereâs my personal Centering practice. Itâs incredibly simple, but will allow you to bring focus and find balance. This technique can be performed standing, sitting, or lying down. If sitting in a chair youâll want to sit so that with your feet flat on the floor your torso, thighs and shins roughly form the shape of a stair step. In other words, the angle between your spine and thighs is about 90 degrees and the angle between your thighs and lower legs is about 90 degrees in the other direction. It is better that these angles be a little more than 90 degrees rather than less. Your head should rest comfortably on your neck. Your spine should be erect so that your head balances there without much muscle tension keeping it in place. Sit up straight and find that balance point. You may look slightly downward, or simply close your eyes. You may simply rest your hands on your thighs. Your nose and your navel should be in line. Your ears and shoulders should be in line. You may rock a little front to back and to each side to find the balance point.
Now release any remaining muscle tension and concentrate on your breathing. At first, simply let your breathing become very natural. It will find its own pace and you may notice that it slows and deepens. Inhale gently through the nose, hold, and exhale through the mouth, each period lasting for about five seconds. Allow the breath to sink into your abdomen. Imagine that the breath is moving like a wave between your lungs and the point in the center of your abdomen a couple of inches below and behind your navel. Bring your attention fully to that energy center. Allow all of you attention to focus at that point. It may be helpful to imagine a point of white light in your abdomen. Visualize with each breath that the  abdomen fills with energy; feel it warm and tingling. Continue to return your awareness to your Center whenever it drifts away. Focus all of your attention there. Note any sensations you have there and let them go. Releasing your mental constrictions there will allow the energy to move up your spine and throughout your body. You may feel energized, but at the same time you may have a feeling of being in balance. Focus your attention without desire for any particular result. Check your posture and bring it back to balance when you feel it slip.
Creating a Neutral Environment
As was mentioned earlier, a magician will usually have to create a neutral environment prior to ritual work, get rid of residue left lingering after magic(k)al work, and neutralize negativity from people, places, and things in the everyday world. Negative energy in various forms can collect where we live, where we work, and basically anywhere people find themselves. For example, arguments with spouses, children, parents, or friends cause it. A stressful work environment causes it. Iâve even noticed large family functions that seem to be quite happy on the surface sometimes seem to cause it. These are all perfectly normal everyday situations that will happen from time to time, but all produce negative energy that must be Banished.
Before formal magic(k)al work it is a good idea to clean the area physically. Pick up any clutter, vacuum, mop, whatever seems necessary. Also, make sure you will not be interrupted. Disconnect your telephone, close any open curtains and lock the doors if necessary. If you are working at home and have family, tell them you are not to be disturbed for a while. Now you are ready to begin banishing any negativity that might be present. There are several ways of doing this. Hereâs a simple one:
Standing in the area to be Banished, face any preferred direction. Ground and Center. Hold out your projective hand (right if right handed) palm down at waist height and point your fingers at the edge of the area. Visualize energy flowing out from your fingertips as a bright light (colored if you wish) and slowly walk clockwise around the area. Now form it with your visualization into the form of a dome, it should encompass the whole area. Now extend the energy down into the floor, see it forming into a complete sphere of brilliant light as you stand at its center. Feel it dissipating all of the negativity in the area. When the area seems âcleanâ, finish the technique by turning the palm and clenching your fist pulling it back to your body.
Smudging, the burning of certain herbs to create a cleansing smoke bath, is another common method which is used to purify people, ritual space, and ceremonial tools and objects. This technique is traditionally used to Banish negative energies by cleansing, purifying and protecting the magician and the working area, and also bringing physical, spiritual and emotional balance. It is easily performed by burning traditionally purifying incense or herbs such as frankincense, myrrh, sage, thyme or rosemary. The physical act of smudging can be as simple as fumigating the area by walking clockwise around the area and visualizing the smoke dispelling any negative energy.
For formal ritual work, I like to smudge before and after. The first smudging is for the purpose of cleansing the space, myself and any participants and for banishing any unwanted energies. Cleansing the ritual space before and after the event is essential. The final smudge is to Banish any negative vibrations and energies attracted or created during the ritual. Smudging is also an easy way to banish yourself and your living space on a regular basis. Many people with desk jobs can even get away with this method of Banishing at work.
Ritual Banishing
The Golden Dawnâs Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, Aleister Crowleyâs Star Ruby, Peter Carrollâs Gnostic Pentagram Ritual, and countless other Banishings fall into the area of Ritual Banishings. All of the oneâs just mentioned are good, as well as many others out there. Most use various combinations of visualization, gesture, movement, words of power, invocation, sometimes evocation, breath control, and a wide array of symbol systems in a psycho-dramatic fashion to Banish. Many of these rituals ground, center, create a neutral environment for, and protect the magician all with one short, usually no more than ten minute ritual, making ritual Banishings excellent for beginning and ending longer sessions of magic(k)al work.
Many magicians also perform Banishing Rituals as a daily routine, such as in the morning just after they wake up and at night before bed, in addition to using them to open and close their ritual work.
Tribe of the Fifth Aeon
Announcing the formation of a NEW Chaos Magic Order:
Tribe of the Fifth Aeon. The name is based on a statement penned by Dead Jellyfish several years ago on chaosmagic.com. I have no idea if he even still walks the earth, but I'll assume he'd approve. The main objective of this Order shall be to manifest the PanDaimonAeon in the world at large. We offer Initiation. We WILL cause change. The best part of it is You may already be participating........
The Chaotic Mandate
There is only one chaos current. Whether solitary practitioner, IOT, Z-Cluster, KIA, Order ov Chaos, II, TOPY, or Tribe of the 5th Aeon -- WE all strive towards the same goal. The Manifestation of the 5th Aeon.
Carroll and the other founders of Chaos Magick were brilliant. But now they are retired. Chaos Magick has passed through its initial stages and WE now enter a new stage. A stage of creativity. The torch has been passed and the direction of the chaos current is no longer in the hands of its founders. WE have the torch grasped in OUR hands with one foot planted firmly in the future, stepping into a New Frontier. The Frontier of 2nd Generation Chaos Magick.
The Tribe of the 5th Aeon is not a black hole. WE do not exist to suck in the brightest stars and drain them of their light. The past has generated the practice of secrecy, security, the black hole syndrome of drawing in ever increasing amounts of knowledge and holding them too tightly for the world to ever see. The development of the current in the future begins to reveal itself in sharing. WE do not exist to bring in new people just to hoard information and magick technology to ourselves. The 5th Aeon is for ALL. WE are not special, WE are not better than others. WE are not unique snowflakes. Leave such feelings of supremacy to the antiquated 3rd Aeon. Once WE leave such BULLSHIT behind WE can truly begin to build the 5th Aeon.
Kaos herself has dictated this Chaotic Mandate to all of US. It does not belong to a single person. Together WE build the 2nd Generation of Chaos Magick. WE are a tribe, a community, Fraters and Sorors travelling a single diverse and varying path together. Together we can build the 2nd Generation of Chaos Magick -- through sharing knowledge, techniques, & rituals. Through teaching each other -- mentoring each other should WE feel such a need. Through gathering together to MEAT -- on International and Local levels. Through building temples which network and share findings with each other, but governed by none but themselves. Through schools of study -- groups collecting together to study a specific paradigm, or field of magick together in a degreeless environment. What use are degrees when skill in the many areas of Magick can vary within a single person? An adept invoker may very well be a novice at divination.
Practical results oriented magick is delicious in its own right, but the 5th Aeon is the real prize, and individually and collectively it is the manifestation of the 5th Aeon that is OUR goal.
NOTHING IS TRUE. EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED. IMMANENTIZE THE ESCHATON! D. J. Lawrence January 4, 2006
The concept is based on a Post, from 2006, on chaosmagic.com's forum, by that website's founder Dead Jellyfish. Some of what he said is actually a bit outdated. For example, with the exception of the IOT, most of the groups mentioned donât exist anymore. Furthermore, most of the big names in first generation Chaos Magic(k), Carroll included, are still aroundâŚmany of them still writing, some even teaching online courses via Arcanorium College. The "take home message" of the so called "Chaotic Mandate" is what's important here, though. The time for secrecy in the world of occultism is over. Occultists, esotericists, and Pagans of all stripes and affiliations should be coming together as one communityâŚone Tribe. We should be sharing knowledge, techniques, & rituals. We should be teaching each other -- mentoring each other should WE feel such a need. We should be gathering. We should be building temples which network and share findings with each other, but are governed by none but themselves. There should be groups collecting together to study a specific paradigm, or field of magick together in a degreeless environment. We should be trying to improve the world! The purpose of Tribe of the Fifth Aeon is specifically to initiate these very things.
Announcing the formation of Temple Daedon, the first official Temple of Tribe of the 5th Aeon.
Tribe of the Fifth Aeon/Temple Daedon is pleased to announce we will soon be holding our first Initiation's and performance of The Unveiling of the Pandaimonaeon. Because of space limitation's I have decided to limit this temple's membership to no more than thirteen (a nod to traditional witchcraft). If you would like to be initiated and be a member of this temple please message me privately. We do still have some spots open. Bear in mind the temple is in central KY and regular attendance is a requirement of membership. Our schedule will be determined at a later date. Also, the initiation is a process and will require a weekend. Message me privately for further information.
Something we would like to do, monthly or even bi-weekely if enough interest is there, is to have workshops and rituals covering a wide variety of topics here at the Abbey/Temple. These would most likely be weekend things. Anybody?

So, this is a thing that happened, during a couple of the best weeks of my life. He wanted me to give my version of it, and fill in whatever blanks he left- he told me there would be a few places that would prompt me, but there seems to only be one that I can tell you anything about. The meat. The flogger, I just recall it breaking. And us switching over to the belt. I was in a whole other world at that point⌠Iâm just gonna take a moment to say, it is BEYOND AMAZING to actually have a romantic magick partner. Whhheeeeeeew.Â
-EDIT: Okay, after speaking with him, I figured out what the flogger deal was. That it broke, period. I made it really sturdy. I used pliers to tighten the knots. Hehe, I didnât even think about that.Â
So, the meat. I knew he had gotten something for the ritual, but I didnât know what it was. He wanted it to be a surprise, and I respected that. When he had finally ushered me about twenty three galaxies away, he grabbed some of the meat and (I think?) cradled my head and put some of the prosciutto in my mouth as he told me to eat of the flesh of Agonistes. Immediately, I recognized the flavor, but didnât know what it was. When he told me, the best way to describe it would be to say that magic glitter flowed through my entire body.Â
It was my mommas favorite meat, and it was special. She would get it shaved, paper thin sheets that we would peel apart and slowly savor. It was expensive, you see. So it was a treat.Â
There are many ways that David is fucking uncannily in tune with me. Many of you may see that as a coincidence; I personally donât believe in them at any rate, but especially not in this case.Â
The ritual was incredible. Iâve been putting this off for so long, writing about it. Because I really canât:Â I transcended this plane. Itâs really hard to write about. But, the unholy terrors I saw inspired my soul. The best way I can describe it is kind of like that scene in Hellboy, when Hellboy is being shown a vision of his reign as king. Only more cenobites, more monsters, more flowers and love. It was pretty much amazing. I canât wait to do more with David. More with Agonisties.

Book 1 - Agonistes âThe Secret face of Genesisâ
I
He is a transformer of human flesh; a creator of monsters. if a Supplicant comes to him with sufficient need, sufficient hunger for change--knowing how painful that will be--he will accomodate them. They become objects of perverse beauty beneath his hand; their bodies remade in fashions that they have no power to dictate.
Over the years, over the centuries, indeed, this extraordinary creature has gone by many names But we will call him by the first name he was ever given: Agonistes.
Where would a Supplicant find him? Usually in what he calls 'the burning places': deserts, for instance. But sometimes he can be found in 'the burning places' in our own inflamed cities: places where despair has seared away away all belief in hope and love.
There he moves, silently, irreproachably, his presence barely more than a rumour. And there he waits for those who need him to come to find him.
When a Supplicant presents him or herself there is never coercion. There is never violence, at least until the Supplicant has signed over his or her flesh. Then yes, there may be some second thoughts, once the work begins. The truth is that on many occasions a Supplicant has begged to die rather than continue to be 'empowered' by Agonistes. âIt hurts too muchâ, they tell him, as his scalpels and his torches work their terrible surgery upon him. But in all the time he has been wandering the world Agonistes has only ever granted the comfort of death to one Supplicant who changed his mind. That man was Judas Iscariot, who whined so much Agonistes hanged him from a tree. The rest he works on despite their complaints, sometimes for days and nights, coming back to his labours when a piece of flesh has healed and he can begin on the next part of the surgery.
There are some minor compensations for all this pain, which Agonistes will sometimes offer his supplicants as he works. he will sing to them, for instance, and it is said that he knows every lullaby written, in every language of the world; songs of the cradle and the breast, to soothe the men and women he is remaking in the image of their terror.
And, if for some reason he feels particularly sympathetic to the Supplicant, Agonistes may even give his victim a piece of his own flesh to eat: just a sliver, cut with one of his finest scalpels, from the tender flesh of his upper thigh, or inner lip. According to legend, there is no food more comforting, more exquisite, tan the flesh of Agonistes. The merest sliver of it upon the tongue of the supplicant will make him or her forget all the horrors they are enduring, and deliver them to a place of paradisical calm.
Then--once his client is soothed--Agonistes continues his work, cutting, infibulating, searing, cauterizing, stretching, twisting, reconfiguring.
Sometimes he will bring a mirror to show his Supplicants what he has so far created. Sometimes he will announce that he wants the results to be a surprise, and so the Supplicant is left to imagine, through the haze of pain, what Agonistes is turning them into.
II
It is an art, what Agonistes achieves.
He claims it is The âFirstâ Art, this creation of new flesh, being the art that God used to call life into being. Agonistes believes in God; prays to him night and morning: thanking Him for making a world in which there is so much hopelessness and such a profound âhungerâ for revenge that Supplicants will seek him out and beg him to reconfigure them in the image of their monstrous ideal.
And it appears that God apparently finds no offence in what Agonistes does, because for two and a half thousand years he has walked the planet, performing what he calls his holy art, and no harm has come to him. In fact he has prospered.
Some of the people who went under his knife, like Pontius Pilate, have aplace in our culture's history. Many are anonymous. he has transformed potentates and gangsters, failed actors and architects; women who'd been cheated by ther husbands and come seeking a new form to greet their adulterer in their marriage beds; school mistresses and perfumiers, dog-trainers and charcoal burners. The mighty and the insignificant, the noble and the peasent. As long as they are sincere Supplicants, and their prayers sound genuine, then Agonistes will be attentive to them.
Who is he, this Agonistes? This artist, this wanderer, this transformer of human flesh and bone?
In truth, nobody really knows. There is a heretical volume in the vatican Library called âA Treatise on the madness of Godâ, written by one Cardinal Gaillema in the mid-seventeenth century. In it, Gaillema argues that the account of the Creation of the world offered in the Book of Genesis is wrong in several particulars, one of which is relevant here: on the seventh day, the Cardinal argued, God did ânotâ rest. instead, driven into a kind of ecstatic fugue state by the labours of his Creation, God continued to work. But the creations He summoned up in His exhasted state where not the wholesome beats with which He had populated Eden. In one day and one night, wandering amongst the fresh glories of creation, he summoned up forms that defied all the beauty of his early work. Destroyers and demons, these were the antithesis of the wholesome forms that he had made in the first six days.
One of the creatures Jehovah created, the cardinal claims, was Agonistes. That's why agonistes can pray to His Father in heaven, and expect to be listened to. His is--at least according to the Cardinal Gaillema's account--one of God's own creations.
And there is no doubt that in his perverse way Agonistes serves a function. Over the years, over the centures, he has been the answer to countless prayers for deliverance from powerlessness.
The words may change from prayer to prayer, but the meat of them is always the same:
'O Agonistes, dark deliverer, make me in the image of my enemies' nightmares. Let my flesh be the stuff from which you carve their terrors; let my skull be a bell which sounds their death-knell. Give me a song to sing, which will be the song of their dispair, and let them wake and find me singing it at the bottom of their beds.
'Unmake me, unknit me, transform me.
'And if you cannot do that for me, Agonistes, then let me be excrement; let me be nothing; less than nothing.
'For I want to be the terror of my enemies, or I want oblivion.
'The choice, Lord, is yours.'
This is all the information that exists, at least currently, for Agonistes. So, thatâs what we had to work with.
Agonistes can be seen as primarily Metamorphic in nature, but also Illuminatory, and as a means âdestroying oneâs enemiesâ.
Agonistes is summoned by one way, and only one way, through pain. The delivery of pain...the reception of pain. This is the gnosis employed.
The ritual that follows is a preliminary rite for what will eventually be a much larger working....a âshaking hands with Agonistesâ if you will.
Our intent was basically just to make initial contact. A sigil is handy for this kind of work, and no sigil exists, to our knowledge, for Agonistes, so Katrina made one:
The background information suggests that Agonistes is found in âburning placesâ. Given our working space we decided that the best option was to simply turn the furnace up full blast.
The background information also suggests that Agonistes âsingsâ to the supplicant to comfort them, so I had Katrina pick a song. (the most comforting song of the supplicant's choosing, is looped throughout the ritual)
The background information also says that Agonistes will sometimes give the supplicant some of his âfleshâ. I used Prosciutto for this, and didnt tell Katrina ahead of time about this section of the ritual. (thereâs an interesting story there that Iâll let her tell.)
For the pain, we used flogging, first with a flogger and later with a belt because the flogger broke (which is another interesting story, actually).
So, for this rite there are two primary participants (one invoking Agonistes and one evoking, the âsupplicantâ)
PRELIMINARY RITE OF AGONISTES
(performed on 4/28/2015 by David J. Clifton and Katrina Jean Perry)
Preliminary InvocationÂ
"Known over the Centuries by many names, We do now summon you by the first name given to youâŚ.Agonistes, Transformer of Human flesh, Secret face of Genesis, Creator of Monsters, Wanderer of the burning placesâŚâŚ..
O Dark Deliverer, be here in this place now to guide my hands
This supplicant comes to you, with sufficient need, with sufficient hunger for change. O Agonistes, accommodate her."
Supplicants prayer
(Invokant To Supplicant)   "YOUR WILL BE DONE"
Pain is administered, during which at random points the invoker says:
"This is the First Art."
Pain is administered, during which at random points the invoker says:
"Thank you, O God, for making a world in which there is so much hopelessness and such a profound âhungerâ for revenge"
And when the rite reaches a natural stopping point:
(While feeding the supplicant by hand) "Eat of the flesh of Agonistes"
IMMANENTIZING THE ESCHATON, One Day at a Time
The fifth magical aeon exists only in embryonic form. Its precise manifestation hangs in the balance. The new Chaoist aeon may develop into an Aquarian Age or a time of totalitarian tyranny. (See "Millenium"). As agents of the fifth aeon Illuminati, adepts may occasionally break their meditation to alter the course of history. For existence is the chariot of Chaos, and man the most refined vehicle available. Adepts may be concerned that the society of men continues to evolve ever better forms to support the divine incarnation of Kia on earth.
They may work to build the new aeon's technologies â the technologies of emotion, belief, magic, transmutation and politics â which will free men from spirituality, prejudice, supersitition, identity and ideology.
And they may seek to create cults, orders, covens and cabals to spread the secret wisdom and to destroy the satraps of old aeon spirituality and its thought forms.
For the fifth aeon has the potential to be a great renaissance when mighty deeds will be done upon the earth and Chaoist philosophy shall hurl men to the corners of the galaxy and into the very epicenter of their being.
Either that or a new dark age.
