Evaluation
The class was set to research and learn about the different kinds of animation. This is to prepare us on the actual animation that we have to do in a class. We were given the task to choose a type of animation and create n ident for E4 using the chosen type.
I think the final animation was successful in terms of ideas and editing. I worked with Reah Sinclair in this project. We used a webcam, a mannequin, blue cardboard and plastcine. I think the process of making the animation was pleasing, having a good team member and motivation to finish the project. The outcome was more than overwhelming, as we didn’t expect that sort of quality from mixing object animation and claymation. We didn’t need a script for this as there where music over the visuals.
We’ve never used iStopMotion before which took us awhile to figure how the software works. I think the software’s really handy as we can use a blue or green screen which was exactly the idea we’ve come up for the background. We’ve used the iStopMotion for capturing the images and frames and used Final Cut Pro as our editing software. It wasn’t new to us (Final Cut Pro) as we’ve used it in other projects as our editing software.
Getting feedbacks was one of the great feelings after uploading our ident on Youtube. People though it was quit humorous and entertaining having a mannequin dancing and doing stuff that human does. Having a blog was also fun for me as I get to edit the background and use HTML codes to make my blog interesting.
I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the project; using a webcam instead of a more better quality camera. So if I had the chance to change anything with the process I would get a better camera. I wasn’t pleased with the background too, although using a blue screen is quite exciting, I could still see the blue reflection from the mannequin and a bit from the background.

Title: Lets Dance!!
By Line:
I've decided to mix claymation and object animation together and I will be using a mannequin and some coloured clay as props to make my E4 ident. The duration of the ident will be around 10-30 seconds.
Synopsis
The idea was, to have a mannequin as the main character. Have it dancing to different genre of music and end up being tired and vomiting. The ident will start off by walking-in to a green screen set and faces the camera, it then waves to the camera to introduce himself (sort of communicating to the viewers). The mannequin then positions to the middle and start moving his arms, waving them as he impresses himself and the audience. He then stops to try ballet and does a piluette. The mannequin will jump off the set and then comes back doing the 'Michael Jackson Moon Walk'. The mannequin will then realise that he couldn't move to his full potential so he rockets off his podium, as he comes back to the set he will be break dancing. He will then sit down facing the camera and sweats (showing that he's tired and not feeling well), after a few seconds he will vomit (wherein we'll be using purple clay) and then just fills up the camera/screen. The ident will end up showing the E4 logo whilst the clay's on the screen. During each genre of dances, we will be using the type of song that would suite the dance (e.g Moon Walk dance, we then play Billy Jean by Michael Jackson).I think it would appeal to the E4 audience as it is funny and unique, not a usual mix (mannequin and dancing) that you see on TV which I think is the uniqueness of my ident.
Personnel
My production team includes myself and Reah. I've chosen Reah as she's got good editing skills, she's got great ideas that would complement my suggestions. We've been working for a year as partners on some projects so I feel comfortable and happy working with her. In order to stay on top of our schedule, we need to prioritise our time on dealing with the pre-production and production, and I think communication is the key. By helping each other and taking great responsibility as individuals I think the production will stay on schedule.
Resources
I will be needing:
A webcam - to use as my main camera (for shooting each frame)
A computer - to use animation softwares (e.g iStopmotion)
Bluetack - to stick the webcam on the wall showing a certain angle
Blue/Green Cardboard - as my blue/green screen
Plastercine - (preferably purple) as the vomit
Mannequin - as my main character/prop
Schedule
This is a rough example of my schedule
Channel/Station Idents
Station identification is the practice of radio or television stations or networks identifying themselves on air, typically by means of a call sign or brand name, known as a statiion or network ID. Station identification used to be done regularly by an announcer at the halfway point during the presentation of a television program, or in between programs.Station idents are normally used in between shows, and by some are considered the most important portion of a network's presentation.
Pros and Cons
What are the strengths / advantages of Claymation?
-You can expand and contract the material
-You can morph characters together
-3D effect and being able to create anything you can possibly imagine
What are the weaknesses / disadvantages of Claymation?
-Time consuming; creating detailed characters
Pros and Cons
What are the strengths / advantages of Pixelation?
-You can make a smooth animation; like the object animation, movements are easily handled.
-Audience can relate more to the animations, as you can see the emotions and facial expressions of the actor
What are the weaknesses / disadvantages of Pixelation?
-Time consuming; taking one frame each time with just little movements.
Pros and Cons
What are the strengths / advantages of Object Animation?
-You can make a smooth animation as the props that are used are real life objects, therefore you manage the movements of the objects
What are the weaknesses / disadvantages of Object Animation?
-It's a hassle using large objects and moving them from one place to the other
-Because of gravity, objects cannot be shot floating in the air unless you use a string which;
-is time consuming
Pros and Cons
What are the strengths / advantages of Drawn Animation?
-You can get into so much details on your drawing
-They tend to turn out better than the computer made ones
What are the weaknesses / disadvantages of Drawn Animation?
-Super time consuming: You have to make a new (drawn) picture for each frame.
