Corpse Bride
I watched this movie after it came to me in a dream. I just woke up with the urge to watch this movie. I think my dream was vaguely set where this movie takes place but I do have a very strong visual of someone that was intended to be me and I guy I used to know as a sim standing in front of Victor, Emily and Victoria in the church. But at the same time I was Emily but at the same time I wasn’t.
The first time I watched this movie it disappeared from the streaming service before the end and it drove me insane for months until one day it just came back but I fell asleep and missed the ending again. Eventually I succeeded and I cried watching Emily turn into butterflies as she was finally able to rest.
This movie is one of my favourites. I especially love the way colour is used. Everything is the same grey-blue shades until Victoria meets Victor and she’s wearing read and then the red hues start to become visible, then in the next scene everything is almost 100% grey. The reds are still visible but extremely washed out and muted. And then when Victor goes to the underworld everything is finally colourful and bright because people are actually happy and free and not bothered with material things like money unlike everyone in the overworld.
I love how caricature-like each character is. They’re all so different in shape but all the same shade-sadly. It really pisses me off how as soon as I write my Frankenweenie log I find out Tim Burton is a racist. Now I really can’t unsee it. Before I just thought that the lack of POCs was because of the time the film was made or because it was set in the Victorian era and he wanted to be lore accurate. Turns out he doesn’t have an actual reason accept for bigotry.
I relate to Emily on a spiritual level and I think that every female does one way or another. I remember being 13-not even a boyfriend-but falling asleep crying to The Other Woman by Lana Del Rey.
If you liked this movie as a kid you probably have Obsession in your top four. 4/5
