Probably my favorite DM het ship, their cuteness captivated me from the first moment 😊
My favorite song when I think about them is Lady · Lady · Lady from Aikatsu Planet! But also many more like Honey, Honey by ABBA and The Dazzles 2 from Rhythm Heaven
Finally watched the Osomatsu-san movie for the first time this evening.
I thought it'd be really long being almost two hours but it didn't feel long at all because I was so immersed in it.
It made me really emotional... Osomatsu-san is very different from the other series and games I like in terms of what feelings it conveys and it's become very special to me in the last few months
I was so sad seeing them having that huge fight in flashbacks. It's like an extension of what Osomatsu said in The Melancholy of Osomatsu: the brothers were best friends and loved being sextuplets, and were only driven apart because of other people's actions and words, because of how they treated them for being sextuplets. Specially the hypocrisy of calling them "Matsuno-kun" as if they were a collective while also making fun both in their faces and behind their backs of things they did because they were sextuplets.
So I loved seeing how the adult Matsus supported the 18matsus and how they were all looking at the graduation books together and imitating how they used to look and behave and having fun.
Seeing the memories that Nozomi described in her letter actually appear in the pictures in the ending was an amazing detail. I cried a bit when there was a sudden transition from the sextuplets being friends to having different personalities and avoiding each other. And Good Goodbye is such a beautiful song
I also teared up when Nozomi said "Osomatsu-kun, Karamatsu-kun, Choromatsu-kun, Ichimatsu-kun, Jyushimatsu-kun, Todomatsu-kun... thank you so much. I'm so happy that I got to meet all of you." I'd tell them the same thing, because this is an anime that I've connected with so deeply. I can only wish that whatever happens to the sextuplets, they can live happily.
You're supposed to start any model by making a blockout (using basic shapes to make the proportions) then a highpoly model to make the normal maps from, then a lowpoly model which is the actual final mesh.
I think I completed a lot of the body and the clothes first, but I'm due giving them another look to remake the topology. They're pretty low poly partially because I don't want my computer to blow up trying to render six models at the same time.
My second attempt at modeling a body and first at the hands. I'm remaking those too btw (not pictured here). There's no feet yet (they're complicated). Also I wanna make the proportions a bit more stylized than in canon
Can I just say that during planning I was annoyed at Ichimatsu bc he's the only one with both the messy hair and bare feet so I need to model at lot more for those lol
Anyway my main reference for the face was the video for that 3D live event they did...
I thought because they're cartoony I could just do the lowpoly from the start. Nope. Fellow newbies, quad spheres and whanot are good for blocking but not for retopology. Do the retopo yourself just trust me on this one
If you're doing retopo on Blender with a highpoly like me you just need to snap to "face closest". The shrinkwrap modifier can also help depending on what you're trying to do
The good side is that I could use my first attempt as a highpoly to make the lowpoly from. I looked at the article by AnimeCGLab about types of face topology, and determined that the Matsus require mixing the "sihouette type" for the shape of the face, and the "deformed type" for the mouth animation.
This is what I ended up with. There shouldn't be any triangles, but at that point I was going crazy.
This is why there shouldn't be triangles:
You're supposed to only use quads aka polygons with 4 vertices/edges, and technically those are but they were not working out at all. Eventually I just fixed everything and made them proper quads.
Next, while procrastinating finishing the ears, I've been making the eyes:
That's also how the face topology looks right now. The edge loops should be at the same distance, mine are not because I was trying to see how I could reduce the number of the ones on the cheeks but not on the nose. Still working on that. Everything else looks good I hope.
Lastly, in the meantime I was testing how to make toon shaders and lineart too:
Ignore the bad shadows, the hair being blue on the underside and the slight gradient on the face, I know how to fix all of those, for the moment I just wanted to test what I could work with and see how it was relevant to modeling the rest.
This is being a long process because not only it's my first model I make and actually have a clue about what I'm doing, but also because I have to model, rig and pose all the expressions, which is why I'm doing their basic outfit instead of jumping to more complex ones. I'm kinda scared to move on to some of the next steps of the process but surely it won't be as bad as I'm anticipating.
Edit: forgot to mention that I'm trying to follow a scale, but seeing the info on the wiki and also the proportions between the normal Matsus and F6 just, wtf do these guys even measure
What bothers me a bit is... I used to have hyperfixations only one at a time. Boueibu during 6 years. Kingdom Hearts during a year and a half. Yugioh DM during 10 months (made a hiatus while watching and fell off the hype. I'm about to finish watching it). But now I'm kinda jumping hyperfixations every few days.
So when I said I was gonna focus on finishing whatever I was working on at the moment instead of dropping it to do something else I meant "I'm gonna try to keep myself in a state of mind/hyperfixation where I actively want to continue that project until the end without starting anything else". Now I feel like by posting wips I made a compromise thinking I wouldn't feel pressured by myself to finish those projects, but I do.
Back in july or so I received the Yugi figure I purchased (DSoD Vulcanlog Yugi) and I always wanted to also buy Yami so they would be together... Today I got an email that my package has been sent and I'll receive it in a few days! Finally they will be reunited QvQ

I've been learning how to make 3D models in the last few months and feel confident I can do it competently as of now, and I wanna document my process on each project for archival reasons and for anyone who's interested to see it or learn from it as well. Should I post it here or make a different blog for that?
Should I post my 3D wips here?
Yes, on a specific tag for them
No, you already make content very rarely, don't flood this blog with wips

I do have to say that this is currently all work I do on my free time, so I work on whatever I'm hyperfixating on that day. Currently I'm focused on Osomatsu-san, but I plan to model and animate characters from all of the franchises I put in the tags
(motion tracing and video wip 2) I added facials and camera motion, they're easily the most fun part because they're the needed finishing touch to the motion.
(Tagging with Yugioh this time bc I intend for Yugi to be in the final video; I'm not using him just to trace the motion)
This progress is from months ago. I suspect from when I uploaded the previous wip in july or so. At this point it's not even that I work slowly, I just stopped working on this one motion and went to do something else because the walking cycle was driving me crazy.
I've been busy with many things, one of them being that I started learning 3D modelling, which was my dream since 12 years ago. Omomo's models are great to work with, but my goal is making my own models soon.
Drawing men who have done something bad pregnant as a punishment or a way to shame them implies that pregnancy and pregnant men are something disgusting or shameful and only contribute to increasing views of transphobia and mysogyny
If you are on a Windows 11 computer, pause everything you are doing for one minute and:
Open computer settings
Click on Accessibility on the left-hand menu
Scroll down the Accessibility menu and click on the Keyboard Option
Under the "related settings" tab, click "Typing" which should have a description of "spellcheck, autocorrect, text suggestions."
Turn off the AI "correct misspelled words"
and most importantly: turn off Typing Insights.
[ID: a screenshot of the above mentioned Windows 11 settings, showing that Typing Insights is now turned off, with the following description from Microsoft:
"Windows is using artificial intelligence to help you type
To help you save time and type efficiently, Windows can learn to suggest words, autocorrect spelling mistakes, and interpret swiped typing. Take a look at the insights below to see up-to-the-minute stats on how Windows has learned to improve typing for you. These stats are stored only on this device and Microsoft does not collect the typing insights data."
End ID]
"But Mx. November, it says right there Microsoft doesn't collect the typing insights data!"
I mean, yeah, it says that..... for *now.*
It also only specifies that Microsoft themselves don't collect it, and they wouldn't have made this something that I was automatically, secretly opted in for without my knowledge if they didn't have something to be gained by me not knowing it exists!
I only found this because a cat walked on the keyboard and turned on Filter Keys and while trying to figure out why my keyboard was just making chirping noises instead of typing, I happened to click on "typing insights" by accident.
Generative AI, and especially AI that is used to "personalize" and track your activity across the web and on your computer are never going to be in your best interest, it is always going to serve these companies in whatever way will line their pockets the most, and all it takes is updating their terms of service once, and then all of that data they promised they weren't collecting suddenly all belongs to them.
Any chance you can do a tutorial or give advice on how to use the open plugin for things like open jackets etc ? Whenever I search for something it just seems to bring up skirt plugin in and not anything about the open plugin
anon... there's no such thing as open plugin.... what you're looking for really is the skirt plugin.....
BUT FRET NOT, I SHALL GIVE A SIMPLE EXPLANATION ON HOW TO USE IT FOR OPEN JACKETS!
this will require some knowledge on operating the plugin AND making physics adjustments!
(this will not cover adjusting the rigid bodies parameters and joints values)
1) select the parts of the vertex mesh you want to rig with the skirt plugin. i highly recommend enabling the wireframe or weight mode too so you can see better when placing the weight anchors later on
2) load the skirt plugin, and do your usual thing with it.
(you can always apply the changes with [Initialize] even if you have already placed your weight anchors!)
3) head to [Advanced] tab, in [Face Setting], change from [Close Face] to [Open Face], after that apply the changes to start placing the weight anchors.
4) what you'll see after that is something like this (the weight anchors are all in straight line instead of 3d form if you get what i mean). you'll have 5 columns of the weight anchors.
5) when placing the weight anchors, despite choosing [Open-Face], you still need to think like 3d. so you'll have 1st and 5th columns being in the front, 2nd and 4th columns being in the sides, while the 3rd column being in the back.
you can arrange them like a star shape (you don't need to worry about the rotations, just moving the weight anchors is enough)
6) apply the arrangement and you should get sth like this!
also if you're a fool like me and somehow refuses to replace the broken plugin that comes together with Inochi-PM's eng PMXE, you can simply resize the horizontal joints with [Object Editor]
and if the rigid bodies also come out the same, just do the same thing too.
don't forget to make sure everything's properly connected!
8) and that's pretty much it! you still need to do your usual physics adjustments ofc, but that's how you can use the skirt plugin to rig meshes that aren't fully cylindrical!
