We moved out of our home 6 months ago and began a massive renovation project. Today, we move back in.
07:15 Arriving a little late to pick up U-Haul. Did the automatic/mobile pick up. Went smooth but forgot to check for reserved dollies in the back.
08:00 Arrive home. Remember dollies, check in back of truck and of course they’re not in there. My fault. I should’ve checked my “staging” as the Uhaul folks call it.
08:30 Comcast has arrived at the house.
08:50 Meet Comcast technician. Leave him to it.
09:00 Sara goes back to U-Haul in Pilot and grabs the 2 forgotten dollies.
09:30 Run to house to grab my tools so I can start taking things apart and loading them in the truck. This is a necessity when you’re moving solo during a pandemic cause a 100+ pound dining room table is easier to move if you detach the legs.
09:33 Grab tools and start to head back to cottage.
09:35 Painters are at the house working on touch-ups and staining the new mantle. Stop to check out the stain sample and approve.
09:40 Comcast tech informs me that I have a cat-6 instead of a coax cable and that after he sets up service outside the house there is nothing else he can do. I have no idea why our electrician ran a cat-6 line. I’m pissed. Text electrician and project manager. PM calls me and tells me it was a misunderstanding and he’s trying to get someone to come out and run the correct line.
10:00 Head back to cottage so Sara can take the Pilot to get us breakfast.
10:25 Sara back with breakfast. My mood should elevate somewhat now.
10:30 There are many dichotomies to decipher in the south: people you love and adore as a child turning out to be horribly racist, rednecks with dixie flags and ‘You have your X I have mine’ stickers blasting hip hop, etc. But one of the trickiest is eating these wonderful chicken biscuits made by right-wing conservatives who hate gay people.
10:48 Belly full of factory-farmed yardbird and crispy crowns. Gotta head down to house and make sure painters know all the spots they missed.
11:00 Great job painters.
11:15 Back at cottage. One bed loaded in truck and here’s the rain.

11:45 Sara has disappeared. Fine time, Lucille. Fine time.
12:18 Too early in the day for the amount of apathy I’ve just been hit with.
12:30 How about we take a little break? 1st beer of the day.
Even without the pandemic quarantine blues it has been a strange 6 months for us. We’ve had 2 birthdays celebrated here, a beloved hamster named Bijou died and a new beloved hamster we named Nova has joined us, one Christmas, one Thanksgiving...but we’ll always think back on this place as the Quarantine Cottage I bet.
13:00 Really stalled out here. Waiting on mopped floors in house to dry and electricians to finish up before we continue.
13:23 First of many loads ready to go. Still waiting.
13:24 Tonight’s post-move treats!
15:45 First load unloaded. Wifi seems to be working in “new” house. Back to the front!
18:00 Second load done and dusted.
20:00 Hooked up washer and dryer. Washer is leaking of course.
21:30 3rd load is in the truck and may stay there for the night.
22:00 Second beer of the day.
22:26 Packing up my laptop and guitar. Sleeping in my new/old bedroom tonight! Tomorrow...the soreness.
