Aniyah could get Mack to do a lot of things– naturally, since a lot of their friendship had been formed on new experiences. Standing in a country club wasn’t exactly on her list of must-do’s. Standing outside a country club was worse, but at least it didn’t stink of rich cologne.

“You’re not feeling it?” Mack was definitely on a good buzz, unbothered by the little things that normally would bother her. Just how little was Niyah feeling? “We could just dip entirely– find somewhere with a crowd that isn’t about to keel over?”

The woman scrunched her nose, tipping the rest of her drink back down her throat and leaving it on the table to her side. the flourish of her hand, she pushed the glasses up her nose and pointed it upward towards the exit. Mack always knew how to keep things alive, even if it was seemingly impossible for things to get even livelier. With Mack around, the party was always bumpin’.

“Yeah, I prefer my men with white pills, not blue.” Aniyah began to open her purse, pulling out some lipgloss. With one hand she began to reapply and with the other she held a compact open in order to inspect her face.

“Who knows! Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll find some old guy who wants to take us on a trip to Fiji.” She vocalized, words barely recognizable as the applicator made rounds around her lips.

With hands outstretched towards the nail technician, Aniyah gave her most convincing smile to Elle, eager to persuade the other girl that she was better off than she was. It had been a few months since she returned back but she felt like she hadn’t fully unloaded everything wonderful that had happened. It wasn’t like it was any better than Gravewood but the appearance of glamor was always far more important than the actuality of it.

“There was a Sbarro, Panda Express, Subway, Taco Bell, and Wetzel’s Pretzel’s on campus. I mean, of course I never ate at any of those places but it was nice to have on campus. Wetzel’s has great lemonade to mix with tequila. If you like things sweeter, I mean.”

There was a moment she spent, eyes fixed forward seemingly at the nail polish wall in front of them. It was as if she were lost in the sea of memories of UCLA. In actuality, Niyah was thinking about how she had wasted her time thinking about Gravewood instead of creating memories.

“And one time I smoked a blunt with Wiz Khalifa... Not on campus but it was still a pretty chill time.”

it would be fuckin’ impossible to pass off like this was a first time, so benij didn’t begin an attempt at it. he’s got pillows with cases that clash, an old comforter padding the mechanisms that latch a presently missing back row of seats in place, and an uncanny ability to find the north star.

but that’s the draw with aniyah. she’s always caught him when he’s entirely unable to keep up a performance. he returns her glance, canine caught on the edge of the gummy before the rest of his teeth bare in a grin.

“being selfish, am i? that doesn’t sound very much like me.” it’s self-aware sarcasm, yet still leads to him gaining a bit more consciousness about the makeshift bed hog he’s behaving as. he pulls his lengthy limbs closer to himself before he extends the bag — only to draw it right back out of reach, painted nails flashing as he offers, instead, an ultimatum. “only if you get comfy. i mean, for my own sake. neither of us want my high turnin’ the annoying, paranoid kind, right?”

Aniyah had always been told by her mother that laughing at men’s jokes only encouraged them to be stupider. So while her face was turned, she couldn’t help but let a quick exhale escape her nose. Benji was going to have to work a lot harder if he wanted to get her to crack. It wasn’t unheard of for her to be vulnerable and soft - especially with him, but she wasn’t about to let her walls down that easily. Even if his arms were more comfortable than her thighs.

With the roll of her eyes, Niyah rocked away from him with mild sprinkles of sass in her body language. Just as she had rocked away, her body then rocked the other way, body relaxing with a graceful fall to the mattress and pillows. She wasn’t going to answer the question about his paranoia. It was a playful empty threat.

The woman stared for a moment, eyes gaze meeting his for a stretch of silence. The slight upturn of her mouth was gentle but noticeable enough of a Mona Lisa smile that anyone who actually knew her could tell she was enjoying her time. Her brown eyes glistened with thirst for more physical contact - as long as she didn’t have to initiate it.

With maintained eye contact and occasionally batting lashes, the woman opened her mouth suggestively.

“Pretty please?” She enticed, feigned innocence in her voice.

Ni held her legs to her chest, toasted brown eyes staring out into the starry indigo night. Each inhale she took was slow and intentional, like one hitch in her breath would ruin the entire night and she would be driven back to her car. Benji had made himself a little more comfortable, no surprises there. It only made sense that he was comfortable in the back of his own car - but it felt a little too... Comfortable in a way. Maybe this scene had been played before and Niyah was getting second hand déjà vu.

Her head turned slowly, as if she were trying to sneak a peek at him and smiled sheepishly when his head turned towards hers in response. The tips of her ears got hot and the woman turned her face away coyly in order to hide exactly how she was feeling.

“Pass the peach rings?”

Aniyah sipped her mimosa, gloss and glitterbomb highlight glistening in the pockets of sunlight. An extremely slow nose sigh could be heard by anyone in the vicinity. She could feel the tip her nose growing runny and the cold air blowing up her sleeves caused goosebumps. Why wasn’t it Summer already? Of course Niyah knew how to dress for any weather but her cutest outfits award definitely went to the Summer collection.

“’Kay. Ten more minutes of this and I’m ready to dip.” The woman rolled her eyes, sunglasses pushing dark brown silky hair back behind her ears. “We’ll go sit inside with the old people. This isn’t strong enough to keep me warm.”
