old brainstorming and it was mostly Naruto centered but also with ShikaNaru in mind. Like, it was mostly Naruto showing his love for plants and also, meanwhile he cares for those, how his relationship with other evolves. And so his relationship with Shikamaru too. Knowing him more and getting closer.
As time goes by, once he finally becomes a ninja, he has less time to take care of his plants and so they start dying.
So, as their relationship evolves in something deep, Shikamaru knows how important the plants are for Naruto. And also know how much he likes sunflowers, and so himself does too. His reaction shouldnt bee this notorious, like he shouldnt be covering his face JSJSJ but he will see those sunflowers. Just as Naruto was about to leave, he decided to give Shika something important, his sunflowers seeds. The ones that remains. Shikamaru knows how much this is important and the fact Naruto gives those to him... is like a lot. Naruto says that this is for their friendship and a promise to remain friends even though they're far apart. Shikamaru will take care of the seeds, a bit too much. Putting it in a lil glass bottle and is kinda his lucky charm but at the same time he likes to watch it when he start to think about Naruto. He kinda will plant some sunflowers in his backyard.
When Naruto returns and sees that Shikamaru still has the seeds, he just gives him a big smile and perhaps he was on the verge of crying. And yeah, some time after they will get together, but for now they know they mean a lot for each other.
