Revenge – Best Served Hot or Cold?
“Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
The above saying is one we have all come across at some point or the other – in movies, books or even real life. But what does it actually signify?
Basically it indicates that revenge is much more satisfying to a person if it is executed after a considerable period of time; if the avenger’s aggrievedfeeling is allowed to mature, to intensify. Is that true? Or is revenge more gratifying when instantly taken, at the time of injury or offence?
One could argue that if one waits for years to plot & refine his revenge, it does taste sweeter. Is revenge like a plant then, which needs to be nourished and nurtured, waiting for the right time when the fruit is ripe enough to be plucked? Some people would no doubt agree with this notion. In fact, the worlds of fiction and films thrive on such plot ideas, and we have innumerable fine works that revolve around this veryconcept.
However, somewhere this notion evokes a sense of vindication, a mean vengeful nature that definitely does not indicate a healthy frame of mind. It becomes a kind of obsession with the avenger, who ends up fixating solely upon his manner of revenge to the exclusion of everything else. His normal life is bound to get affected severely, along with that of his near & dear ones.
Ultimately the idea of revenge is not really a good thing. It evokes feelings of negativity within a person. However if a person is indeed bent on some form of revenge, it’s best to do whatever is to be done then & there and end the matter once & for all, instead of dragging it out for years.
Bottom line – if you have a grievance towards someone & feel wronged by him or her, get the problem sorted out as soon as possible instead of nurturing hatred & vengeance in your soul.In our movie “Sesh Anka”, the protagonist Raina is to discover, to her shock, which form of revenge she encounters. Would you like to know which one? Watch the movie to find out!
