Never argue with stupid people, they’ll drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
Mark Twain (via philosophybits)
Bone Angel
Bone angel, wrapped in shadows Thick and black as tar. Reaches out, grasps at times long past No heart remains, no gut to twist No lungs to be winded, no eyes to cry. But cry she does, that bone angel. Milk white tears trickle down her skull. Only the void is left within.
me, banging your pots and pans together at 3am: the assumption that liking problematic characters means you share their views is toxic. people should not have to constantly defend their views simply because they enjoy a character of questionable nature.
you, attempting to wrestle them from me: indeed, but there comes a responsibility with enjoying problematic characters and it is on those who consume that media to recognize and constantly acknowledge the faults of it rather than sweep them under the rug with a general "i know it's problematic don't worry".
me: it seems both our sides of the argument are valid and hold merit.
you: will you please get out of my house now
... something deep about society
I would...
I would, if I could, Reverse the tides Turn back the flow of time Return to our golden days That happy place Which once we occupied The night is long Without you, all alone A happy mistake But One I wish I hadn't made To have changed our situation To waste our happy arrangement Now to bring about our downfall. We lost a friend To gain a lover We left that once so happy place To find ourselves a paradise No utopia for us exists Our winding ways we've long since lost No way to reclaim the past
A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.

im not very clever so trying to be wise just makes matters worse
happiness
im suddenly a lot happier now than i have been since the start of exam season. i cant tell whether thats the relief of having a university place or the fact ive just had my first taste of alcohol in all that time...
Results Day
today is a tense one for many thousands of 17 and 18 year olds, today they get their a-level results and must decide upon a course of action that may very well determine the outcome of their entire life...
there will be shouts and screams, there will be tears. the calm and collected may well be thrown off balance and the great mass of those unprepared for their results will throw themselves without thought at any opportunity.
at the end of the day the many thousands of f us will have been sorted out into the rank and file of obedient servant who will be crushed one last time by the educative process and the rabble of oppressed workers ready to spend the rest of their days banging their heads against glass ceilings. well... those of them who can actually get a job, there aren’t many to go around.
that is of course the pessimistic view of the situation and one motivated by politics. regardless it is bound to be a day packed full of highs and lows, final goodbyes, tense moments and memories both sweet and bitter to be looked back upon in the decades to come.

Character is determined by choice, not opinion.
Aristotle (via philosophybits)
It belongs to the imperfection of everything human that man can only attain his desire by passing through its opposite.
Soren Kierkegaard (via philosophybits)
Silver Tongue
My gift, the silver tongue Sharpened to a point. My way with words, my razor wit Razor sharp and deep it cuts The man who said that names will never hurt... He was wrong These words that flow from lips to air, as pen on paper, They escape the cage within, and may never be reclaimed. With Every line, I gash their soul Every syllable, a bullet wound Words are my weapon, with words I eradicate their very essence And leave broken men. I understand your hatred I can shard in your fear. but i ask you to remember This is a two way thing for every gash That I inflict I slash myself twice more For every syllable I fire. I shoot my self thrice times. A poisoned gift I hold. Fed by flames of anger, it holds no loyalty The curse of silver tongue And a white rabbit.
You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death.
C.S. Lewis (via philosophybits)
