A Twist In My Story - Secondhand Serenade
All Apologies || Mason + Anna
Mason smiled into her neck at her sarcastic comment and earned a giggle from her, “Exactly. I’m Slim Shady, in case you never knew." Anna relaxed against him, resting her head on his chest and he fished through the water finding her fingers to fill the spaces between his. He rubbed her hand with a free thumb and they shortly fell into a comfortable silence for some time. He was reminded why he always fought for Anna, what kept him so persitant. He couldn’t think of spending a moment like this with anyone else and he reveled in the comfort that he felt with her.
Mason couldn’t help but smile at her blunt question, she always reacted completely on impulse. He sighed, knowing where this was going to go. It’s not that he didn’t want to be wit her, it was actually the exact opposite but these conversations always scared him. Letting someone in. He wasn’t good at it and he was aware that she wasn’t either. He let her speak her piece, knowing all that she said was right. He didn’t want to do things like this with her regularly and not be with her. She faced him now, looking at her with her piercing hazel orbs that could persuade him into walking through hell fire without a sense of consequence and he realized that he wasn’t scared anymore. He took both of her hands now and kissed both of them, “You are my girl. Bottom line. You always have been."
Before she could say anything more he lifted her out of the bath after realizing that it was just becoming cold at this point, ignoring her questions as he grabbed two towels and sat her on the bathroom counter. He grabbed a pair of boxers for himself, quickly slipped them on, grabbed one of his t-shirts for her, and walked back into the bathroom to found that she hadn’t moved an inch but only had a towel draped over her shivering body. Even with her makeup running, she was still one of the most beautiful girls he’d ever seen. He only smirked at her, slipping his shirt over her head. He then picked her back up, pecked her lips, and he guessed at this point she was tired of asking questions - she only laughed. He walked back into the room they shared, setting her on is bed and laying next to her, wrapping his warm comforter over their chilled bodies. She turned over and laughed at the events that just occurred and he joined her, intertwining their fingers once again. “We can define this however we want," he stated, turning the conversation to a serious note, “but you’re mine. You’ve been mine since we met. And that’s not changing."
Anna smiled at his words, letting her mind absorb them. After he had released her hands she kissed him once more gently, purposely ignoring the constant fear and doubt in the back of her mind. She decided then that she would fight her hardest to let go of whatever was holding her back. Surprising as it may seem, she found it in herself to want to repress any negative feeling towards this. In past experiences, she would panic and shut the whole thing down and leave within days, not even giving herself the chance to move on and try again. She realized at that moment just how many people she had potentially hurt with that mentality, but she felt calmer that Mason was the one she was going to be trying this with. Anna hadn't been aware of the time, having been so absorbed in her thoughts. Her mind snapped back to attention when she felt a pair of strong arms lift her up only to set her down again on a different surface. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself, drawing warmth from it as Mason left the room. "That's not really an answer." Anna called back to him, receiving quiet in return. She considered getting up and following him, unsure if he was even planning on returning, but decided to stay put for a few minutes longer. When he did come back she only made faces at him, mimicking his silence. As the two of them laid side by side and took comfort in each other, Anna began slowly drifting off to sleep. He seemed to recognize this and took a turn back to the previous topic before she could get away with visiting sleep. Rather than answering him directly, she simply smiled and tapped her fingers against his to show she had heard, letting his words run through her mind as she allowed sleep to claim her.

As she pulled his hand away from his eyes, the red in his cheeks only brightened. Mason considered himself to be a gentleman, his mother made sure to install that in him as long as he could remember and he knew the way this made him feel was far from gentlemanly. He hid it well though because she didn’t seem to notice… or comment on it, at least. She slid out of her garments and glided over to him like liquid mercury out of a broken thermometer. Just as poisonous as well. He let out a meek laugh at her joke, hardly listening to the words coming out of her mouth at all. She kissed him and he returned it gratefully, his hands resting on on her bare back. They had barely pulled apart, their lips still resting on each others, “Yeah, yeah." he said, suddenly assured.
He knew it had to be strange to her, him admiring her every curve like an artist would marvel over the Mona Lisa. He faded in and out when it came to paying attention, she’d wiggle her toes against him and he’d smirk in reply every now and then for the reason that he guessed to make sure that he wasn’t in some sort of unconcious daze. Which she was only half right about that. She broke the comfortable (on his part) silence after splashing water into his eyes with a giggle. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry," shaking it off, he took her hands and pulled her closer to him, it being easy with the slick ceramic underneath them. She was laying against his chest and he nuzzled his face into her neck, “Do you blame me?"
As she tied her hair up to avoid getting it wet, Anna laughed a little at Mason rubbing the drops from her splash away from his eyes. Her knees were pulled up, tucked close to her chest and when he took her hands and moved her closer to him, the water swirled around them only to settle back down once again when he had her in a comfortable position. Time seemed irrelevant, almost nonexistent at the moment. Her mind was entirely relaxed for the first time in what seemed like weeks if not longer, and the feeling of his lips on her skin only heightened the peacefulness. “Who would you suggest I blame? An alter ego perhaps?" She smirked and allowed her head to rest against his chest, their fingers finding each other and not wasting any time in intertwining. “So what now?" Anna mused as she fixed her gaze on their hands and the water surrounding it. She knew that he knew what she was talking about. She hadn’t wanted to ruin the moment but she also wasn’t willing for the next confrontation to come around before she and everyone else knew what was really going on with them. “We need to DTR." When he shot her a confused look she gave a slight shake of her head. “Define the relationship. Preferably now. Please?" She sat up a little and turned her head so she could look at him fully, pursing her lips. “What are we?"
