Things end. That's all.
Doctor Who I The Return of Doctor Mysterio (2016)
"Oh my god, right!" Lexi exclaimed. "It's always the ugliest hat known to man too. Like, where do buy them?" She asked before nodding enthusiastically. "That sounds like a perfectly logical conclusion. Let's go!"
"Ugly hat store, there has to be a specified ugly hat store. I wonder where they hide it. Knockturn, you think?" Honestly it seemed the perfect place for something so sinister and benign all at once. "If it's anything like my parents place, they've hidden the kitchen in some corner." She held out her hand for Lexi to take.
"It certainly sounded like her." Lexi answered. "But then again, so many pureblooded women just have that aura about them, don't they? So I can't be 100% sure." She nodded. "Absolutely. An unopened bottle sounds like a brilliant idea."
"An aura and almost always some sort of ridiculous hat." Her mother had always favored fascinators, and Anna every now and then had the compulsion to burn one. It sounded therapeutic. "There's definitely a kitchen, do you reckon there's a liquor cabinet somewhere as well? House like this, seems like there must be."
"No, erm--" Adan looked at her for a minute, trying to place her. Had he seen her around the Ministry? She wasn't an auror, he was sure of that, but maybe they'd passed somewhere. He shook his head, glanced up and down the hall again and tried not to cringe at the fact that he was probably dumping way too much emotional baggage on the poor woman. "My brother died in an accident, a car accident -- um, muggle transport -- a number of years ago. But I swear I just saw him, he was... bloodied?" He shook his head. "Sorry, must be losing my fucking mind."
Anna had to physically resist the urge to hug him. She'd go proper spare if anything happened to Declan. "I'm so sorry." She said and she meant every word. "Do you need a hug? I mean, that sounds, that sounds really horrible and if you've seen him again I can't imagine-- Someone else said they saw their grandmother, so maybe you aren't losing your mind."
"I said, I think our drinks must've been spiked." Lexi said, looking down at her glass. "Because I could've just sworn I saw my grandmother in the next room."
Anna considered this as she looked down at her drink before carefully pushing it away. "Is that who that was? Because she reminded me strongly of my mother. We should find an unopened bottle," She said, "Because I think we both need it."
Adan jumped slightly at the appearance of the masked woman at his side, who seemed oddly familiar but with her face covered, it was hard to tell. Or perhaps she had been there the entire time, and his brain had been too busy malfunctioning to notice. "I--" he cleared his throat, thinking that it couldn't do any harm to repeat himself. They were all in the same boat, after all. "I said I think I'm going mad. I swear I saw... my brother... but it's not possible..."
Anna watched his lips with utmost attention. The man really did seem freaked out, and she felt kinda bad about making him repeat everything. âWhy wouldnât that be possible? Is he out of the country?â Or dead. She didnât want to say that out loud though, in case he wasnât and she manifested it.
Where; masquerade
âCan you say that slower, please?â Anna asked as she tugged the corners of her mask in frustration. It was gorgeous, it was, but god it messed with all her new processes. Half of the masks others had on covered their mouths. What was the point of that? âJust one more time?â
anna's mask
verdict: all these masks are gonna make lip reading a pain
"the first one..." tig repeated. that seemed so long ago. she almost couldn't remember it at all, although that may be the fault of the concussion she'd received at the time. "do you hear less? is it muted or dampened or do you hear buzzing? what does it sound like to you?" she asked. "the now is not as loud as the future because there is only one present. there are infinite potentialities." the explanation did not really explain anything, especially if you did not know the graves. "but everything, everywhen, is so quiet."
âItâs like Iâm hearing everything through a layer of cloth. Sometimes, I know there should be noise, but I canât hear anything.â That was the worst part of it honestly. Knowing there should be more but not knowing what it was.
As Antigone spoke, Anna tilted her head to one side. âEverywhen? Are you a Seer?â Her Divination teacher had talked like that sometimes, back at school. âIs it normally much louder?â
"why is it quiet to you?" the inquiry was soft and distant as focus fell away from tig.
"The explosion, the first one back at Diagon. My apartment was right next to it, and I was there when it went off. My ears have never been the same." Saying it out loud hurt but it hurt a little less every time. Just a little less. "What about you?"
where; somewhere either loud or quiet with; open
"something feels... off. strange. why is it so quiet?"
"Is it?" Anna said, smile bitter. "Everything's quieter for me these days. I suppose this probably somewhere meant to be loud, though."

Anna's had a thousand nightmares about something bad happening to Hayden and baby Evelina. Sometimes it's the war that does it, sometimes it's Stanley (those are the worst, because when she's awake Anna knows better than to ever believe Stanley would hurt her friend), sometimes it's because Anna didn't get there soon enough.
kazacresâ:
there was a hard edge in the gleam of kazâs eyes. âI will not get a divorce in my lifetime.â she said with pointed finality. that would not be in her cards. ânor do I have any intention of being a murderer by any means. I will figure something out.â
--
âOkay.â Anna accepted readily. No divorces. She could understand that, for sure. âWhat if you found someone they liked better? Or convinced them just to move away. Iâve heard very good things about New Zealand. And Egypt. Then theyâd be fine, and you wouldnât have to marry them.â
--
of-beasts-and-bloodâ:
âBadges and matching shirts. Declan and I share a cupboard and it would be deeply entertaining for him to keep finding the shirt when looking for something to wear in the morning.â Oh yes, this was definitely why Declan had kept them apart for so long.Â
Edith was chaotic, but hers was a chaos that forcibly swept up everyone around her. He and Declan were in the same boat against her, holding on for dear life as she chose the adventure. But Anna⊠Annaâs chaos was quieter. More subtle. Hers came with a naughty smile that brought you in on the joke with her.Â
Theo had to admit, he liked being in on the joke.Â
He signaled the bartender over and ordered two drinks from the special menu neatly stuck up behind the counter. What exactly they were, he had no idea. But they were named after the fighters and they looked fun.
â
Anna couldnât help the chuckle that escaped at that mental picture. She would love to see Decâs face as he had to flip past that in his wardrobe every day. âI have three years of embarrassment to get caught up on.â She reasoned with a nod. âWe definitely need badges and matching shirts. I can even have some of the kiddos make us designs-- or at least some of the older ones.â
Drinking something named after Aeros definitely had some irony to it, given everything sheâd just done with the man. But shame wasnât something she had in spades these days and Hayden could always make fun of her for it later.Â
âI know these are technically drinks but we could always take them as shots. Really make this evening an event.â

kazacresâ:
âtalk with me? ha.â kazâs barked laugh was not that. there was no humor or life in it; just a sharp, sardonic beat. âmy mother doesnât talk with me. she much prefers to talk at me, occasionally down to me if sheâs had a particularly rough morning. this isnât a solvable problem, but it is a survivable actuality. Iâll figure something out⊠or Iâll get married in japan. weâll see.â
--
Anna winced in sympathy. âYeah, Iâm familiar with that... non-conversation. Well, if you do get married in Japan, you could always quietly get divorced later. Look into whether or not they have those stupid consummation laws, or something. File for divorce for âirreconcilable differencesâ maybe. Oh! Or, your husband could have a tragic mysterious accident.â
--
of-beasts-and-bloodâ:
âI will be right by your side then. The best âBring-Declan-to-his-senses-and-also-homeâ partnership there is.â He didnât want to believe Declan would drop them and run again, but the idea of him and Anna dragging him back home by the ear was amusing. Maybe this was why Declan held off on the introduction for so long - because he knew Fyodor and Anna would team up against him.Â
âMay I buy you a drink? Firstly to start making amends for your five years of giftlessness, but also it feels appropriate after all the story sharing.â
â
Anna snorted a laugh into her nearly empty cup. âWe should make ourselves badges or something. That would really drive him mad.â Oh he would hate it so much. All his time away had really stored up Annaâs annoy-your-baby-brother vibes. If she didnât do something truly silly soon sheâd probably explode or something.
âYou can absolutely buy me a drink. I just had sex in a broom closet, I think I deserve at least one more drink.â Anna still couldnât believe that had actually happened. This whole night felt deeply fake.Â
