What art is most challenging for you? Why?

What makes an artwork good or bad?

honestly the art that's the most challenging for me is abstract art and water color. Both I feel like are really loose and hard to define. I admire them a lot but tend to stick with more strict traditional art. 

I’m not entirely sure what could make art bad. maybe it would depend on what the artists goal was with the art and if it fulfilled it or not. even little kids art I think can’t be considered bad (its just so cute)! :)

What types of art are you most drawn to? Why?

Has an artwork ever changed your mind about something? Explain.

The art that I'm most drawn to art landscapes and people caught in everyday life. I feel like landscapes really capture the beauty of God’s creation especially when the colors or really vibrant.

I can’t really think of any art that has changed my mind about anything really. sometimes art can make me ask deeper questions but other than that can’t really think of anything.

What makes art successful? 

I think art is successful if it fulfills the goals of the piece or conveys the message the artist was trying to get across. Ultimately it all depends on the artist and what  they wanted out of the piece.

How can art be made “to the glory of God”? What does that look like? What doesn’t it look like?

I think that making art that glorifies God depends on the artist. Personally I try to show people the power and beauty of God by showing his creation in new lights. I’m not sure how others do it and I am still finding out ways to do it but I think there are several ways to do it that I have yet to discover. Ultimately I think the art should put the focus on God and not the creator of the piece.

How should art be used in church? What should that look like? What shouldn’t it look like?

In what ways does God “renew” our minds?

I think art should be used as a way of teaching people who learn more visually the Bible or in a way to glorify God. Its important though to make sure the art doesn’t become something people worship and isn’t presented in a way that's blasphemies. 

Im not really sure about this question. I think God renews our minds by giving us a christian perspective. Throughout our life we go through many trial and I think that through them God teaches us and gives us new perspectives that helped us become more companioned and renews our mind with a fresh perspective towards him.

How is the art you make different than the art you like to look at or engage with as a viewer?

Has reading the Bible ever provided you guidance about looking at, thinking about, or making art?

To me the art I make has more flaws that the art I interact with as a viewer. I’ve always thought that was the sad part to being an artist, we will always be able to see the mistakes and flaws in our art and will never be able to see our art the way others do. 

the Bible is honestly the thing that has probably shaped art for me the most. the Bible’s teaching are what my life is shaped around, I don't think I’d be able to recognise my art without it.

What is “the art world”? Who is involved? Who isn’t? Why?

How important is knowing about the personal history of an artist when viewing their artwork? Does knowing an artist’s religion change the way you understand or appreciate their work?

Has art that has been meaningful to you been made by Christians or non Christians? Is this question irrelevant? Explain your answer.

The art world is this world. when most people say “art world” they are usually referring to the purposeful artistic people and things in this world. I think though that you can't isolate that world into its own think and have it still mean the same thing. You must have it in the context of the rest of the world in order to see it completely. Therefore everyone is a part of the “art world” as they all help create it. 

 I think knowing an artists history can really impact the way you view their art. when you view art without the artist history you're only getting part of the story. Knowing their history might make things pop out that you had never considered before. knowing their religion is especially important because religion is most people’s basis for reality.

I think that christian music has been really meaningful to me. I feel fulfilled when I am praying God and christian music seems more passionate and meaningful to me than other art. I haven't really seen much of any other type of christian art.

What is the greatest advantage of being a Christian in the arts? What is the greatest disadvantage?

Is everyone an artist? Why or why not?

I think the greatest advantage to being a christian in the arts is that you have a very layered and deep perspective to make art from. Though this could also be a disadvantage because people who aren’t christians might not be able to understand a christians art the way they meant it to be understood. 

I think that whether or not a person is an artist is up to them. I think everyone has the capability to be an artist but wether or not they choose to be one is up to them.

For this quiz I got the Dreamer. This is the second time I've taken this quiz and I've gotten dreamer both times. Dreamer's, according to the description, are mainly identifiable by their empathy which I think suits me very well. doing this quiz made me realize that I tend to try to always see the world by putting myself in other's shoes. I feel like I can only get the full picture if I see things though the eyes of the people around me. then when I come back to my perspective it makes the picture more enhanced.

What is the difference between an artist making art for a gallery and an artist making art for their living room?does this distinction matter? Why or why not?

where do your ideas come from?

I think the difference between an artist making art for a gallery and an artist making art for their living room is that art made for a gallery is made for other people and art made for the artist living room is made for them. I think the living room’s art would be more personal and more aesthetically pleasing to the artist while a piece made for a gallery would be something made for other people’s enjoyment. This is an important distinction I think because what the Artist thinks is beautiful and what the general public thinks is beautiful might be two very different things. 

When it comes to art I think my ideas come from my emotions and how I perceive them. whenever I draw I try to make a picture that create the same feeling in the viewer as what I am or was at one point feeling. For example when I try to imagine what sadness is always picture it as a beautiful blue rose with drops of dew siting on the petals. Something beautiful and mysterious.

Is there any type of art that can not be done by a christian? What is it? Why is it unchristian?

I don't think there is any art that can’t be done by a christian there's just some art that shouldn’t be done by christians because it would be compromising to their morals. I think it all depends on the artists intention behind their piece. I think artists should make art with the intent of glorifying God, because that is what we are called to do as children of God. I therefore think that christians should avoid making art that is blasphemous or has pornography in it, stuff like that is I think the type of art that Christian must avoid.

I made this rock painting for my Grandma on her 80th birthday. For me its a kind of tradition to make these rock paintings for my friends and family on special occasions. 

the second thing is just something quick I did for a friend when I saw she was crying. I’m not that good with words so I though I'd try and cheer her up this way. It felt relevant for this project so I included it too.

In my life art is a necessity, I need it to calm down with and use as an outlet for my emotions. It makes me mentally and spiritually healthier. I imagine that I am not the only one this is true for either. Art can be a very successful form of therapy for people, which is why we have fields like art therapy. Where words fail art can be the thing that speaks for you. Taking away art won't solve problems like poverty or racism it will only aggravate it. By taking away art we would be taking away peoples form of communication, source of income, and freedoms 

Additionally, economically speaking spending money on art and art supplies provides more jobs for people and increases cash flow. taking away art would be taking away millions of people’s sources of income.
