you said "louis lost between destruction and control" and all i heard was bulimia nervosa. i was feeling crazy about my lestat take but after a quick rewatch, he's literally introduced with his back turned to us as louis says on voiceover: gluttonous whoring. call me harper stern the way i cope by being proven FUCKING RIGHT‼️anyway, what im saying is i don't find it surprising that louis main method of self harm in 1132 rue royale is fasting. lestat propositions him with the promise of freeing him from the shame of desiring: you can want because i will give you, you can be hungry because i will feed you. but what freedom means to louis as a southern, catholic, queer man of colour in america, is very different from what lestat, as a white french queer, can and is willing to offer him. you cannot want because i will not give you, you cannot be hungry, he will not feed you.

as someone who sees vampirism in a predominantly negative light, i sometimes feel misplaced schadenfreude when i remember louis, armand and lestat will have to live the rest of eternity locked up in a mostly meaningless existence: constantly hurting each other and themselves while learning little to nothing in the process, after what they did to claudia. misplaced, because i don't think she herself saw vampirism in a negative light at all. i think her distress came mostly from systemic oppression and abuse she suffered at the hands of her caretakers, not the vampire condition in itself.
