This is Julie and I. We went to Wayne State to do our research. It wouldāve been a great time, except our whole family came with us. My dad is back at school and he wanted to do some research, too. He wanted to go to the graduate library instead of the undergraduate library (Wayne State has 5 libraries), and I told him to deal with it because me and Julie needed to do some research. When we showed up, all the librarians were gone, so I was mad. My dad kept telling us to look it up on the computers, but I had no idea what I was looking for. I really just wanted him to go away. So, finally, I asked a lady at the circulation desk for help. Turns out, she was the supervisor. She had a high enough degree so that she could be a librarian, but Wayne State was refusing to promote her. She helped us out a great deal. Also, apparently the Librarianās union at Wayne State is demanding raises, so this lovely lady copied everything for us for free. She said it was because we were doing homework on a Friday night and she didnāt want to be there. She was the nicest lady ever, and if I do end up at Wayne State, Iām only going to ask her for help, not the librarian.

MY RAD RESEARCH 3
As suggested by alyssaklaresmith I looked up some 1984 imagery. I found these to best reflect a lot of the themes I found myself focusing on while writing this project.
Ash Thorpās New Prints.
Beginning on Monday, April 20th, 2015 Ash Thorp (VFX designer for Prometheus, Thor, Iron Man III and others) will be releasing 4 new limited edition prints. Ā By using logarithms related to sacred geometry Ash has created some really beautiful, Sci-fi-esque works of art. Ā The prints are a timed release and will be available between the 20th of April and May 15th, 2015 on Ash Thorpās website. Ā You can read more details over on Evil Tender.
My Rad Research 2
Finding my criticisms wasnāt necessarily hard. George Orwellās 1984 has a lot of recognition. The hard part was narrowing it down and picking ones that worked. Luckily, and because I am a bit of a scam, I brought my sister, Katie, to the Oakland University Library with me. She was a huge help and guided me in the right direction.
Another difficult part was fully understanding what the critics where saying. I mean, these critics are real elegant and fluffy writers a times. I read a lot of ones, by different authors, which said the same thing over and over, just in different ways. That did not help me. Annotating the criticism was a challenge but in the long run was a good learning experience.
My Rad Research
During the writing and research aspects of this project, I found that it is not only difficult for me to document and transfer my thoughts into text, but also stay focused. Many times during this project, I would think of tons of ideas and points I wanted to make, but my brain would move too fast for me to actually form the sentences, therefore I would forget my point. To be honest, Iām not sure why we didnāt read āFaustā in Lit. It is literally so hilarious. At least, I think so. It may just be the translation, but this guy has the best comebacks.

At these times, Iām more convinced that something got lost in the translation, but this translation makes me laugh. In case you were wondering, these comebacks were from a human guy in response to the Devil. This guy has some serious gall.
Above all, I think something is getting lost in the translation since it is a play. Iām missing some of the actions that the actors are performing. Before I read to deeply into anything, I think I may need to watch a film rendition of āFaust.ā Or maybe I could see a play. Iāll have to search Youtube.
Don't you mean literary so hilarious? Haha >:) But I find these phrases funny too! I think you should start using them. They're clearly great insults and you can be literary fancy while doing so!
so i am reading this book dune and i reached the point where we see the first dune worm on the planet arrakis. Ā For those of you who donāt know, Arrakis is a sand covered planet and one of its native fauna is the majestic sand worm. Ā However, its descriptive literary beauty has been spoiled because all i can picture is the alaskan bull worm from spongebob.Ā
I like how you made this connection, and shared this visual, I personally found it intreging to look at.Ā
This is so funny! I really love this connection too. At the end of the day, can't we all connect our literary texts of merit to SpongeBob? I think so. I believe the AP test would appreciate such insight as well.
Brave New World #4
So iām not exactly sure what prompted me to do this but I was looking at the cover of my book and decided to google image Brave New World to look at all the different covers. I was surprised to find such a wide range of covers. Some (like the pic above) have what looks like a āsomaā pill on the cover, while others have several fetuses in test tubes. The cover of my book has what look like replicated mannequins all walking in a line. I Ā think itās interesting to see all the different covers because it shows how different aspects of the book are valued depending on the cover. I just attached this picture because it was my favorite cover that I saw! Anyways, I think you all should google the covers of your books too (you may be surprised by what you see)!!

The entire book is told from a narrators point of view, a narrator who is detached until the very end. At the end of the book the narrator enters Annaās mind which I found to be odd. Not that the information we got out of it wasnāt helpful, but how could a third person narrator enter someones mind? Also, why only do it towards the end of the book? I wish instead of a narrator, it would of been told from multiple points of view. The first section being told by Levin, the second section by Vronsky, and the third section by Anna. This way we get all sides of the story and donāt have to be left trying to fill in the holes.
Possible sequel written by Big Meg? No? OK. But I get what you mean. The different points of view would be really interesting. I love those kinds of plots where you go in a circle, you end where you started. Also, you get a ton more information listening to more than one character. It's like a backstage pass to a continuous concert.
Before I even started reading the book, I questioned why it was titled, āThe Bell Jar.ā Itās about a girl, Esther, whom grew up poor, but on an academic scholarship, is now doing an internship in New York City as a writer. Right from the beginning you can tell that sheās depressed. Sheās achievedā¦
Iāve heard this happens to a lot of people in NYC, that they have this great image of how their life is going to be but there are so many people who want the exact same thing as them that it doesnāt work out. So many people in such a small space of land can be overwhelming.
I think that this themes through aĀ lot of cities around the world. There is always more money and even when you believe that financial success will bring you happiness, it might, but only short term. The long term affects of money being your love, is that you are valued upon your money. Those who don't earn that much will be valued on their skill, personality, and the joy they bring to others. But by making big bucks, your life is priced by the price you are paid, the ultimate price. So be priceless :)
I was checking out tumblr today and searching for posts on the lost boy, Slightly. Slightly has been picking at my brain lately and I was just searching for something that could give me a reason why and I came across this picture (sorry I forgot which account it was from lol). I couldnāt help but agree that Slightly is described as Peterās right hand man and best lost boy of the group. I looked into this a little more. At first, I thought maybe this character was meant to be based off Barrie himself, but a little but of research proved me wrong. The character Slightly is most like Barrieās brother who passed away when Barrie was young. This brother happened to be very close with Barrie and the effects of the death followed him throughout his entire life. It makes total sense that Slightly would be based off his brother since lost boys are actually dead in the mainland (places that are not Neverland) but alive in Neverland with Peter. I think this is why Slightly is such an important character in the novel and is mentioned more than any other lost boy.
That's very interesting about his brother, Alexia. Possible background source? Or inspiration for such? I used to watch a show called Once Upon a Time. Have you seen it? If so, are there any parallels from the original book to the show? Did they get anything right?
Reading The Work 5
So I finished the book, and Alice finally became queen and they were celebrating and chaos erupts and Alice attacks the red queen and wakes up. This signals the end of the game, as she captures the queen and the game ends causing Alice to wake up and realize everything had been a dream. One thing I didnāt mention is something I think about a lot. When we use words, we have definitions for those words so when I say something everyone can understand what I am saying. However, Humpty Dumpty explains how he can change words to be whatever he would like. So he could sayĀ āThe Cat Runsā but what he understands it to mean is completely different. In real life I think this is the same way, we make up swear words and they have bad connotations in school, where really it is just letters put together to make a word and only means what we make those words to mean. Overall for the book, it was kind of confusing unless I looked and got some context online about what it is about, but it got easier as it went on. I really liked the book and I kind of want to read Alice In Wonderland just for fun to see how different that is from the movie and from this book.
Although I have not read the book, I have seen the movie - both the Disney and one that came our recently. I know that they are not the same, nor do they compare, but I think one of the things about this tale is that it is meant to be confusing. Not a lot, if anything makes sense. But isn't that a theme or an idea of the book?

Ok, so itās just us on the inside now? The ones that know? Great.
At the end of the novel, it is safe to say I felt many emotions but had no idea how to name or explain them. I could only whine and make ugly faces to express myself. Initially, I was pissed when Winston said āDo it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I donāt care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me!ā (p. 297) I couldnāt believe he would throw Julia under the bus and throw away love like that. He was so selfish that he wanted to transfer his pain to her. I was disgusted. The language Orwell makes Winston say left me feeling sick. I was upset. āNo! Donāt! Thatās exactly what they want you to do! They wanted to break you so you would give up on love! You let them win! You gave them exactly what they wanted!!!ā
But after doing some analysis, I gave Winston somewhat of a break, because they broke him. The torturing of 1984 is excruciating. The idea of using someoneās greatest fear against them is evil. It made me think of what they might use against me. I had to think what was my great fear? I still donāt have a solid answer, but something along the lines of everyone I know and love, hating me or not existing and me being the last person on Earth. That would be my absolute worst nightmare.

Thereās a lot of things the society and government in 1984 does to dehumanize its citizens, most of it to control. To control the people, to make them do what they want, to control technology and use it against the people is a nightmare. Orwellās writing not only tells a great story and expresses a lot of themes, but also makes a warning about how this could happen in real life. War and control of the people is very real in some parts of the world. The world run by a single Party (ha) is terrifying. In fiction, mind control and brainwashing is usually something that is done by someone with superpowers that was born on a different planet or was poisoned by radioactive waste, but Orwell molds a form that does it with ruling through language or the lack of. The rewriting and erasing of history actually changes the minds of the people in this world ā and thatās true power. Ā

Orwell sets up the scene for every utopian society that will eventually be todayās very popular genre. He was the original guy to have a hero speak out against a corrupt government, but he did it way better and without being clichĆ©. Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth aināt got shit on Orwell - not to mention the actual language he crafts. He paved the road for all these authors writing a basic heroās journey attached to a corrupt, post-apocalyptic society. As you enjoy your teen flushed fantasy novels, keep in mind Orwell got you there, thank him.
