New Map Reveals Ships Buried Below San Francisco

Every day thousands of passengers on underground streetcars in San Francisco pass through the hull of a 19th-century ship without knowing it. Likewise, thousands of pedestrians walk unawares over dozens of old ships buried beneath the streets of the city’s financial district. The vessels brought eager prospectors to San Francisco during the California Gold Rush, only to be mostly abandoned and later covered up by landfill as the city grew like crazy in the late 1800s.

Now, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park has created a new map of these buried ships, adding several fascinating discoveries made by archaeologists since the first buried-ships map was issued, in 1963.

It’s hard to imagine now, but the area at the foot of Market Street, on the city’s eastern flank, was once a shallow body of water called Yerba Buena Cove, says Richard Everett, the park’s curator of exhibits. Read more.

The Goblin King has a penchant for making himself difficult to get to--while there has been a prior action figure made of David Bowie's supernatural, maze-enthusiast, codpiece-tastic babynapper, he'll run you up to $350 on the secondary market nowadays. No one could blame you for running away from that...and now, they wouldn't have to. We got a glimpse of McFarlane Toys' new take on the character earlier this year, and now, via Toyark, we have an official product image and details: The hair alone on this guy merits some sort of toy-sculpting award. And thanks to the good folks at McFarlane, you might also say his ruffles really have ridges. This version of Jareth, which we hope will be the first of several given Bowie's costume changes, comes from the masquerade sequence, in which the previously malevolent villain proves he can be equally debonair and seductive. What do you guys think of Gwen’s Harajuku Girls dolls? From what ive heard mattel is going to make them.

Personally i don’t really collect little girl dolls, but they are really cute designs! I also really like that are a diverse bunch. They should be good quality and seem articulated enough. #BratzKidz vibes though!

In the words of Nick Wilde, “Is this frustrating? Yes, yes it is!” But really a minor irritation. I LOVE Zootopia. So when I saw the larger action figures by Tomy, I had to order them. On our recent trip to Disneyland, I checked out a few of the ToysRus in the area, and what did I find... A ToysRUs exclusive, fuzzy and more detailed set- also by Tomy. Here are some comparison shots..

The So Cal ToysRUs got a little ahead of themselves and shelved a few Moana Items before the street date of October 1st. In any case, I was fortunate enough to snag this gem (Starlight Canoe & Friends- Pua and HeiHei) before the jig was up.I also saw a wig, but since I have some Hawaiian in my family history, my hair already sort of does this on its own. LOL got to talkin’. about hair and forgot to post the price $49.99.
