chapter 7/8
Aaron wakes up with a fucking hickey.
It looks impossibly lurid in the weak light filtering through the blinds, red and purple and it sings with soreness under his index finger.
Robert left it there. Robert’s mouth left it there.

note: can’t believe this is drawing to a close. i’ve loved writing it soooo much. please comment and lemme know what you think x
"Maybe I don't like you breaking into houses! Especially considering the number of times you've lectured me for doing a lot less!"
love that robert's fake letter to torture lawrence is that ronnie's met a belgian man named serge who is a fellow builder. and it works, because robert understands. he knows that if aaron met a belgian builder named serge it would destroy him too
#the discussion of the 'new dynamic when aaron held robert back last week did confuse me a little because...^^^^ #robert has always had an aggressive and impulsive streak too?
Something something everyone assumes the one with scary dog vibes is the one that's more vicious when actually it's the one who looks like a golden retriever. People forget that all dogs bite, and the ones who allegedly bite the most often are actually big softies...
how does it feel to know that I fell in love with you in under a paragraph???
(the strange vaseline smeared lens robert can sometimes be remembered through permeates quite deeply sometimes...lest we forget he has always had a streak of wolf ((and he used to WEAR wolves clothing...sharp suits, a perpetual sneer, an impeccablly perfected, impassive little grin...it was incredible. Wearing sweet fluffy hoodies and body warmers against the backdrop of a wholesome farm doesn't change the flares of his nature)). Aarons aggression is often more reactive and straight forward and SIMMERS then explodes. Historically, it's robert that has been the wildcard. Having less physical strength to actually WIN in a fight doesn't make that any less true!) 🚬
THIS i actually think this ties somewhat into the whole Sam hitting Rob w a shovel vs Rob and Lee because Robert is actually quite a violent person, like actually vitriolic... it was mostly verbal, sure, but even with Billy, or with his penchant for kidnapping, he became more physical after getting with Aaron - his violent streak didn't start or stop or get bigger or smaller, it just twisted
I love the description of vitriolic! Though his wolfish streak has definitely twisted and evolved over the years, i dont think conflating his physical violence directly with aaron is entirely accurate! He has shown an aggressive streak since his teen years (the years fraught with him and Andy fighting) which has manifested in physical and verbal violence and manipulation tactics. Robert is, at heart, an opportunist and has consistently shown he will react in a way he feels best suits a situation using whatever tools he has at his immediate disposal (be that a spur of the moment call to ruin katie and Andy's wedding rings, a kidnapping if given the chance, the opportunity to push someone in a grain pit or a longer and more thought out plan like The Robrence Situation lmfao). He has ALWAYS had the wolfish capacity to be physical before, during, after and DURING (again lmao) coupling with aaron. But it has never been the primary tool in his toolbox the way it is in aarons.

robert & aaron: scenery
step one: replace entire personality with open, festering wound
step two: contort absolutely all stimuli in my environment to relate to the my wound in some manner, ideally one which justifies random acts of unbridled aggression and vengeance
step three: marry a girl with generational wealth
do not. address it
maybe i'm overusing the word. but. INFAMOUS scene of robert giving rebecca a hundred grand and a picture of jack. HE MAKES ME LAUGH!!!!!
