Day 6/100 days of productivity [01.13.18] I didn’t complete any academic work today but I did take my dogs to the park, gave them a bath, and did my laundry. Some days, it’s about the small accomplishments.

School doesn’t start until tomorrow so me and @starshinestudies are trying to catch up on all the things we’ve procrastinated over the break… ☕️☕️
five tips for study marathons
In Belgium we have this thing called ‘blok’. It’s the name for the two to three weeks of marathon studying between the end of classes and the start of exams, related to the verb ‘blokken’, which basically means ‘hardcore studying’. It’s obviously not a very pleasant time, so here are some tips to survive those study marathons!
1. Hydrate. Of course has been said again and again, but that’s because it’s so important! I usually get myself either a half-liter pint and a (reusable!) straw. Straws really help me to drink more, but they’re not very good for the environment, so if you can get your hands on a reusable one, go for it! You can also try adding fruit to your water for some extra flavour.
2. Breathe ouside air at least once a day. I don’t care how you do it. Take a walk at noon, go on a morning run, breathe really deep when you’re in line for the library, stick your head out of a window, I don’t care. Just do it. You need the oxygen and it’s not good to sit inside all day.
3. Don’t wear stuff you sleep in. Now, I’m not saying you can’t wear pjs. What I’m saying is, don’t wear the pjs you wore to bed. Not even if you study at home. Don’t do it. Make sure your brain knows that studying and sleeping are two very different things.
4. Get off your butt during breaks. Sometimes when I’m on a roll at the library, I can study a whole afternoon, with breaks only to go to the bathroom and to refill my waterbottle/make new tea. It works, because I walk around. Point being, have a dance break! Go for a walk! Move!
5. Sleep is useful. I get that if you have an exam the next day and you really need to finish this last chapter, you stay up until 3am. But otherwise, don’t do that to yourself. You can do that tomorrow morning. Your brain needs sleep, you’re not wasting time. Promise. Take care of yourself.
I hope these are useful! You can do this!

snow days are lazy days but I still managed to attend my staff meeting and type up a reflective essay.
now I’m just gonna take a nap.
I’ll annotate some of Byrd’s work tonight, review some organic chem lectures, and then log in some well needed practice hours.

It’s a slow journey but today was a good and productive day!
17.01.2017 // Revising the second part of my thesis now. So close to the end!
yesterday
19/01/18 9:08pm | Today in between pilates and an appointment I sat on the balcony of this gorgeous cafe and took some notes from my criminology textbook. This trimester I took an intro to crim unit because I don’t know much about the topic - it’s been really interesting but I can’t say I’ll do it again!
20/01/2018 :: After crossfit this morning, I’ve done lots of planning and a bit of maths.
20.10.2018 ; fast summarizing notes of my statistics book as i have an exam wednesday. i’ll type them up later for readability 😅

How I plan and organize a research paper!
Whenever I have a big paper (those 5 or more pages requiring many sources) I do it in step, keeping everything in a folder.
Folder
Any folder will work. I didn’t have any two pocket folders (those work best) so I just grabbed a manilla folder and washi tape. I’m more apt to do something if it looks cute, haha. The folder is just to hold everything, so I know when I throw it in my backpack in the morning, I have everything I need to work on it during breaks on campus.
To-Do List
At the beginning of the folder, I make a quick today list, or the process in which I want to start gathering materials and information. I state my topic here and a brief description of the the requirements so I can refer back to it. I make a list of the order I want to do things, i.e find summaries, find critical articles, pick out quotes from play/sources, do citations, make brief outline.
Index Cards
The index cards are used in different ways. I make one for each source I use and go ahead and make the MLA citation. I hate doing it, so I get it out of the way first. When I find a quote I want to use, I highlight it in the article and then I jot it down on an index card and label it with its source. It is so much easier than thumbing through 40 pages of articles looking for one quote you highlighted and wanted to use in a specific section. This is not for everyone, and I haven’t always used this method. Big papers, however, are harder for me to keep organized, so for this assignment they will be more helpful than time consuming. I just clip them to the folder
“DashBoard”
I create a little dashboard to the side using post its to track my progress and plan out what I need to do on certain nights to finish in a timely manner. I love this because everything is in the same place. I don’t have to have my planner, notebook, and book out. It’s all there.
Articles
I print my articles, staple them, and put then in the folder. There’s not really a system to this, they are just nice to always have on hand and not in electronic copy. I do not think having only a .pdf file will help. It is too easily lost and they are a pain to annotate. Also, I keep 2 copies of an outline in here. 2 just seems like a good number.
Rough Draft, Final Draft
When I finish writing the paper, I put a copy in the folder to proofread. I like to make my corrections on paper and go back, so I do not lose the original. Once everything is done, I also put a copy of the final in the folder and file it away. I hoard everything.
GREAT FOR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS
High school students typically have to write their first thorough research paper by junior year. This is a good way to keep them organized and to make sure they have everything. If they turn in a folder this extensive, you can follow their thought process and better help them to improve on the next. It’s easy to use this method to show them the step by step process of writing a research paper.
Any questions, just ask!
