Merthur AU

Arthur was finally reincarnated. Merlin’s wait is over, they can be both happy, together. At least, that’s what Merlin tries to believe in. Sure, it didn’t take much time and effort for Merlin to make Arthur fall in love with him, because it’s the once and future love, written in the stars. The only problem is, Arthur doesn’t remember a thing about their past life. Merlin tries, he really tries not to push it and hold these memories back, but it is so damn hard. He literally went through hell during past centuries, waiting for the only person he had loved the most. Unfortunately ,the demons of the past reach him, slowly eating him alive from the inside. Arthur is not either blind or stupid, of course he can see his boyfriend acting strange. One day, when Merlin breaks down and starts talking about their life in Camelot, Arthur decides this has to end now. He makes an appointment with Nimueh PhD, the local psychiatrist. There’s been a lot of talking, and, in the end, they decide Merlin should be under medical supervision, 24/7, for his own sake. Arthur is not happy about this, but he desperately wants his lover to get better.

Arthur visits Merlin every day. He is not sure whether he blames him or not for leaving him in the mental hospital. But he risks it anyway. Merlin no longer speaks about the past life in Camelot, which might be a progress. Arthur isn’t sure. One day, (now traditionally) Arthur enters the hospital elevator to make another visit. However, once the elvator goes up, the lights begin to flicker. And that’s when Arthur’s memories set off. He’s the king of Camelot. Merlin is his servant, but also his lover. They’re in the battle. Is it Camlann? And there is Mordred, who runs the sword through him. The pain… and there is Merlin, holding him, begging him to stay. No. He realizes, quite slowly, that Merlin’s been right all along. He’s ashamed and he feels disgusted with himself. When he reaches Merlin’s room, he starts to apologize, feeling sudden flood of emotions, love above all. And Merlin stands there, smiling from ear to ear. This was certainly the last day Merlin’s spent in this institution.
