It bothered me how Cape Fear refused to use the exact word for what Max did to Anna. He sexually abused her. That's what he did. But the series seemed allergic to using the words correctly. Anna wasn't the villain in his story, but a victim who sought justice for what she suffered because the system is still flawed in punishing rapists.

And not only that, but it bothered me how violence against women seemed not to exist within the series. The characters didn't seem to think that a woman could suffer any kind of violence. They updated the script and excluded one of the points that were present in previous versions (besides the villain's quest for revenge). And although they included the abuse that Max commits in the script, again, they refused to say the exact words of what he did. Even though she's been working on it since the first episode.

I hope I'm not misunderstood when I say that violence against women didn't seem to exist within the series. Not that I wanted to see it, but it did exist in the series; it's just that the characters didn't seem to consider the possibility of it for even a second.
