BSD Alternate Abilities AU
An AU where the charactersâ Abilities are based off different works by the authors.
Continued here.
Also, please feel free to use this AU. Have fun with it. But, if you do, @ me, because I would love to see it too.
(Also a reading list, if you like.)
Armed Detective Agency
Nakajima Atsushi â The Two Generals (based on the short story Li Ling). The Ability to manifest two spear-wielding phantom warriors, like Demon Snow and Golden Demon. One warrior is focused on attack and the other is focused on defense. Before joining the ADA, Atsushi had no control over The Two Generals and would manifest them during times of extreme emotional stress that causes him to go into a catatonic state â one goes berserk while the other hunches protectively over Atsushiâs vulnerable body. Because of his catatonia, he would not remember anything after coming out of his stupor.
Dazai Osamu â The Setting Sun (based on the novel The Setting Sun). A skin contact-based Ability that marks the target with a black snake tattoo that acts as a curse. Those marked will have misfortune befall them. Dazai has no control over what the misfortune is or when it will happen; the Ability only assures that it will happen with certainty. He may also revoke the curse, also through skin contact. It also works on inanimate objects. As part of the Port Mafia, he would use The Setting Sun as a tool of coercion, the curse acting like a ticking time bomb. In tandem with Chuuya as Double Black, he would mark the target with The Setting Sun and Chuuya would use The Moon to make the misfortune happen sooner.
Kunikida Doppo â Birds of Spring (based on the short story The Bird of Spring). Allows Kunikida to communicate with birds and borrow their vision. This makes him an excellent tracker and, if he was not so morally upright and respectful of othersâ privacy, it would make him a great spy. He is also capable of directing the birdsâ actions, provided that they agree to do what he says, but is limited to the physical limitations of birds. Seems to use seagulls a lot, and gets into arguments with them a lot.
Edogawa Ranpo â Fiend with a Thousand Faces (based on the character Fiend with Twenty Faces and his many, many characters who don disguises). While not an Ability and still primarily a master detective, Ranpo is also a master of disguise. He thinks his supposed Ability allows him to change his appearance. In truth, he is just very good at dressing up. His favorite persona is a man named Saito â moustache, colored glasses, a blue coat and hat â who he has a complete second life for.
Yosano Akiko â Tangled Hair (based on the poem Tangled Hair). While still the ADAâs doctor, Yosanoâs Ability allows her to grow and control her hair. Because of this, she regularly changes her hairstyle â sometimes, it is short and, sometimes, it is very long. Her hair is highly prehensile and the strands are razor-sharp. She has enough control that she can handle delicate tasks with just her hair and can shape it into a variety of forms. Yosano just prefers the brute force approach.
Miyazawa Kenji â Night on the Milky Way Railroad (based on the novella Night on the Milky Way Railroad). A prophetic Ability. Kenji can see one day into the future through his dreams if he sleeps under the night sky. But the prophecies are symbolically represented, so he has to work at deciphering what his cryptic dreams mean.
Tanizaki Jun'ichirou â The Tattooer (based on the short story The Tattooer). Allows Tanizaki to bring the creatures tattooed into his skin to life. They are brought to life to scale, so they are limited by the surface area of his skin. Once the creature is brought to life, the original disappears from his skin and he has to get another. Due to the nature of his Ability, Tanizaki is covered in fanciful tattoos. Most of them are inked by himself; the ones on his back are by Naomi, who fills the expanse of his skin with spiders.
Izumi Kyouka â Demon Pond (based on the play Demon Pond). A transformation Ability that allows Kyouka to transform into a weather-controlling dragon. Initially, the transformation was triggered by three chimes of a bell and would cause her to go on a rampage. The same three chimes could be used to put an end to the transformation. But nobody outside of the Mafia knew that. Akutagawa used a ringtone to control her; she still hates that ringtone.
Port Mafia
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke â Hell Screen (based on the short story Hell Screen). The Ability to bring Akutagawaâs drawings to life by setting the paper â or canvas, or wall â on fire. As such, he is never without a filled sketchpad and a lighter. It only works on his own art and Akutagawa has a morbid imagination. He used to only be able to draw things from real life inspiration, which Dazai berated him for. So Akutagawa took to seeking out terrible sights and filled his sketchbooks with monstrous amalgamations â and his drawings do not need to be to scale when brought to life. Seems particularly fond of venomous bird-reptile hybrids and, for some inexplicable reason, a flaming monkey.
Nakahara Chuuya â The Moon (based on the poem The Moon). A time manipulation Ability that allows Chuuya to make things go faster or slower within a certain radius of himself. In application, he can make bullets make impact with more momentum by increasing their speed. He can also stop time by lighting a cigarette and keep it stopped until the cigarette burns out or is put out, or ârewindâ time using the same method. As half of Double Black, he would use his Ability on Dazaiâs curses to bring about the misfortune on their targets.
Kajii Motojirou â Under the Cherry Trees (based on the short story Under the Cherry Trees). A necromantic Ability. Kajii can reanimate and control the dead, so long as the body is buried beneath a cherry blossom tree. Of course, Kajii has no qualms about murder to make more corpses for his zombie army, or thieving from morgues for that matter. The effect is somewhat ruined by the cherry blossom flowers growing out of his zombies, but Kajii thinks it looks cool.
Ozaki Kouyou â Friends of the Inkstone (based on the literary magazine Friend of the Inkstone). The Ability to make ink-based facsimiles and creatures so long as they are no bigger than an inkstone. The creatures she makes are usually miniature versions of animals and look like netsuke carvings, especially tiny octopuses. They might be small, but they can do great damage in numbers. She keeps a swarm of them in the sleeves of her kimono.
Fukuzawa and Mori still have the same Abilities and I am not sure yet about the other charactersâ new Abilities.

Alien Stage is about love. Wiege solidifies that.
It's about the importance of that human connection of love. There tends to be a focus on the romantic love but when you step back and look at the series, Vivinos and Qmeng look beyond just romance. There is a spotlight on companionship. On how love manifests itself in other just as beautiful and just as important ways.
Weige shows us Luka gaining his first human connections with Hyuna and Hyunwoo, it shows us Hyuna gaining a family with the resistance, it shows us the Anakt Garden kids working and playing together, it shows us that mother feeding her children, it shows us those kids drawing on the glass between them, it shows us Mizi, Sua, Till, and Ivan spending time with each other. These are all examples of human connection, the love shared between each other that we take for granted.
What we seek out inherently, something displayed through the way Luka is alone after Hyuna escapes. The way his room has posters of her everywhere, how he stares at one and kisses it, he craves that connection to come back. And when he does see her again, he's the most human we've ever seen him be. His smile is genuine, there's color in his face, his heart monitor is red. He walks towards her completely ignoring the gun to his head because that connection is right there.
Because to love is to be human.
We're shown another world. One where the characters aren't in the Alien Stage, where they're free and happy. While they aren't with each other, except Luka and Hyuna, in these scenes they aren't alone either. Sua is laughing with a friend, a picture of someone on her phone case. You can see someone in the background as Mizi is smiling like she's doing an activity with others. Someone is in the foreground as Till draws, implying he's in an art class with others. Someone walks up to Ivan as he's reading a love note. Hyunwoo is riding a bike with another kid. Someone is taking pictures of two little figures together. Because even if you're not in a situation where a human connection is all you have, we still need it. We still want it. Its importance does not lessen.
And we carry those connections, that love with us even after someone is gone. Hyuna cries for Hyunwoo, she thinks about him and Luka even as she's with her family in the resistance because she still carries that love for them with her. Mizi weeps as she holds Till and remembers Sua because she still carries that love for them with her. It's something so deeply ingrained within us, so natural that we can never part with it. Because it makes us human.
The song itself is composed like a waltz, but the lyrics and the name tell you what it really is. It's a lullaby. In a story reliant on music to add even more detail to what it's presenting to its audience, the video most centered on love and human connection has a lullaby. One of the first pieces of music you hear after you're born. A piece of music often associated with the first human connection anyone has. One of the first times music is an expression of love. A mother singing to her child.
basically the Odyssey
Telemachus: âHi whereâs my dad?â Nestor: âOh so youâre the one Ody couldnât stop yapping about.. yeah he went to get milk lol.â Peisistratus: âwho thisâ Nestor: Proceeds to make them share a bed. Telemachus: âBRO I NEED A FATHER NOT A LOVER.â
Draw Telemachus and Pisistratus givng eachother a lil smooch on the lips (NOT IN A WEIRD WAY AN INNOCENT WAY)
A little kiss of farewell :3
theyre literally already married
Chairman Meow to Church
Well, it's been a while! I am trying to be better about posting, I truly am. Today, since it is a miserable rainy day here, have an adorable letter from Chairman Meow to Church, after Church has moved to England. :) Written for Diane from Kickstarter.
Church Cat,
My person, the taller one, promised me that he would bring this message to you at your new palatial home in England. He has told me that the palatial home actually belongs to your human, but I do not believe him. That sounds like humanist anti-cat propaganda.
He also said he did not know what a small cat would do with such a large home. Clearly he does not understand us at all. As you know, there are many rooms that can be important in a catâs domain. There is the room for lying around sleeping in, and the room for chasing mice, and the room for meowing loudly, and room with the best sunspots for napping in, and the room with the best furniture for sharpening claws, and the room where there are most likely to be mice.
This is the second time I have mentioned mice. I must be hungry. I will find my other human and alert him that it is time for the can-opener. Please accept this housewarming gift of a false mouse stuffed with drugs. The humans call it catnip. Iâm sure you have enjoyed it before, since you are very old.
Meow,
Meow
My favorite part of the Song of Achilles:
Achilles: How could Heracles not recognize his wife?
Chiron: That is the nature of madness.
Patroclusâ inner monologue: Sounds like a skill issue. Couldnât be me. Truly pathetic to be honest. Personally, I would recognize Achilles in the dark, or in disguise. I would know him even in madness. But thatâs just me I guess.
