“Are you alright Miss?” Jehan asked as he put his books on the ground, helping her pick up the food. “Well this doesn’t look safe to eat at all” He mumbled before looking up at the girl. “You look awfully young, where are your parents?” He wore the same soft smile as he wore everyday.

Annie frowned “My moms dead my father never paid attention to me or my brother. I used to live with my grandfather but he didn’t like my beliefs m'sieur I’m on my own now and I’m 17 im not that young.” She replied looking at the boy she had bumped in to

“Any other guardian? It must be terrible to live this life” Jehan muttered under his breath before he smiled, an idea coming to his head. “Come and live with me! There’s more than enough room!”

Annie smiled at Jehan. “oh M’sieur you’re too kind but you see I watch after the children in the elephant statue. That’s why I had so much food I can’t leave them alone ‘specially Gavroche he’s like a brother to me.” She replied

“Then bring them too! I would love to make sure that you all have a place to stay, food to eat, a bed to sleep in” Jehan listed as he gave the rest of the food to her.

Annie smiled widely. “I’d have to ask the kids they are all very fond of the elephant statue. M'sieur you are too kind the only time I’ve seen people act like you is when I see my brother and his group of friends talk in the square about equality and Revolution do you happen to know Marius Pontmercy?”

“Marius is one of my best friends! Are you his sister?” Jehan asked, looking at the girl. She did look like Marius in a way. One thing didn’t add up. If she was Marius’ sister, then why was she living on the streets?

Annie smiled "oui I am! Oh m'sieur I listen to your group all the time when you hold your rally's. I have always been a strong believer of the revolution and my grandfather hated me for that. Tis why I ran away and began to live on the streets because my grandfather is so against the revoltuon."

Annie knocked on her friends door waiting for an answer he dress was ripped she was skin and bones again she had bruises on her face and arms and her lip was cut open. When the door opened all she said was "Hey 'sette long time no see."

Cosette’s eyes widened happily when she saw Annie but then her happy expression quickly turned sad and concerned. Cosette took her wrist that wasn’t horribly bruised, pulling her inside. “Annie! Why are you out at such a late hour, especially like this?!” She questioned frantically as she shut the door.

“Don’t, Marius. Don’t blame yourself. It is all your grandfathers fault. It is because of him she is the way she is now.” She assured him, lightly rubbing his back. “Don’t worry, it isn’t your fault.”

“I wish I could have done something to protect her though.” Marius said turning and hugging Cosette “There’s nothing you could have done for me Mar you would have had to take the beatings and I wouldn’t have wanted you to do that.” She said still curled up to Enjolras but she was looking at her brother and Cosette

Cosette smiled softly when she was engulfed in his much taller body when he hugged her and she took in his warmth, something she had missed dearly. “You did what you could.”

“Don’t let me sleep too long I want to spend time with you guys.” She said sleepily “Love just sleep as long as you want we have all the time in the world.” Enjolras said kissing her gently before she snuggled up to him and fell asleep

Cosette sighed when she finally fell asleep and she turned to Marius. “I’m sorry I let it slip that we weren’t together to her.”

Marius shook his head before saying “she would have found out anyway especially when she’s hanging around this lot.”

“Still, at least she maybe would not have hit you.” She sighed, feeling slightly guilty but the nervous feeling while she was talking to him overpowered the guilt.

“‘Settle she would have smacked me no matter who told her.” Marius said forcing a smile

“But still, maybe it wouldn’t have been as hard.” Cosette sighed, leaning slightly against him.

“Annie only knows one way to hit people ‘Sette and that’s hard because that’s the only way she’s been hit when she was abused it’s not your fault and it’s not hers either okay?” He asked smiling a bit when she leaned against him

“But it also isn’t yours. I honestly have no clue who’s fault it is.” She sighed, laying her head against his arm. “I’m just happy she is back and she is here to stay.”

Marius sighed leaning his head on her head. "Sometimes I blame myself for her being in this state if I stood up for her when grandfather was beating her maybe she wouldn't have run away in the first place." He said "But I'm glad she's back too I was so worried about her."
