I'm going to do something Ironic here.
I want to complain about the people who love complaining, especially towards FREE literature.
Fanworks are made by people with love and passion because it is THEIR outrageous ideas. They're writing it for people with similar outrageousness, but mostly it is for themselves.
If it were somebody else's commissioned headcanons, or if it was an industry requirement for the common crowd in exchange of their money, then by all means, complain. But FREE Fanfictions and FREE original works are passion projects without any monetary gain. You cannot complain about it because they're not asking your time and money to consume it. JUST FREAKING SCROLL AWAY.
AND IF YOU'RE NOT LIKING A FANDOM BEHAVIOR, THEN FIND ANOTHER FANDOM! THERE ARE MILLIONS OF THEM!
You may complain about the lack of, but you can only look away if you do not prefer an existing free literature.
Please just... shut up.

I'm a "holy shit two cakes" kind of person, and for the longest time, I thought all people are. It seems there are these loud complainers who VOCALLY HATE the cakes they do not prefer.
"So, hey, why are you suddenly complaining about this again?"
Cuz I had to block a mutual who CONSISTENTLY posts complaints about writers and FICS. It's not about me specifically because we have different fandoms, but I hate seeing these kinds of warm takes. This mutual was also the one who triggered me to write THE ESSAY FOR FANDOM ETIQUETTES.
What are their takes? Well, I don't remember all the lines, but these are some of the points.
They hate some Writing Styles. And it's not the "one huge block of paragraph" we consensusly dislike. Even that, I forgive. But this poster just simply hate the wordings and the emotions they convey. Gurl, there's something called the Back Button??? Just leave it alone.
Very warm take, but irritating nonetheless: Knowing the author's personality through their writing. Like? If I wanted a "She said, He said" writing I'd go to booktok recos. But I desire unique literature and art so I go to Ao3.
Not from this specific poster, but from tt comments section in general: hating how a tragic character is treated softly. !!!! Maamsir, the reason why fanfiction exists is because we want to see these characters in our own light! If I wanted to write a 40K about a brutal psychopath learning the wrongs of his ways, no matter how psychologically impossible, I would freaking write it because it's my idea! Authors are not forcing you to read them. If I want a story that's "faithful to the canon", and damn to me, I'd read the freaking canon texts. BUT I AM IN TUMBLR AND AO3 FOR A REASON!!
But if you think, "But complaints help people improve." Which is true. It's literally my job in the real world to improve systems by consistent diagnosis. However, we are dealing with young people who are still finding their footing in the world of art. If they are faced with complaints and judgement, they get discouraged easily.
And people who constantly complain are probably not writers themselves, because the learning curve of writers are really high. I always keep an open mind when it comes to long fics because I know by chapter 3, their writing style becomes immaculate. I know this because I'm an understanding writer, and a jolly reader. These complainers act like they are nobel peace price winners for literature, when my average high school readers know how to read in between the lines, have high media literacy, and are still total sweethearts.
So my only question to those complainers...
...maamsir, do you truly enjoy literature?
Is complaining about free literature good for the community
Yes. I think it makes us learn to be better
No. It just scares artists away.
