I know I haven’t been as active as I should be, but with recent events in my life, I have a lot of other things to worry about.
One of these things is what happened to my dear uncle Bob.
My uncle Bob isn’t like an uncle to me. He’s a brother and a father at the same time. Since my biological father has been absent most of my life, my uncle Bob took over that role. We have always been extremely close and always will be. I could tell you the countless childhood memories I have of him, but all of that cannot be summarized in this one post.
He’s extremely important to me and vice versa. That is why I need to share this and I need to make sure that this gets out to as many people as possible (which I will be doing irl too, this is just part of it).
On the Third of Feburary, my uncle was heading to work, riding his bicycle as usual, when he got hit from behind by a car. He has been in a medically induced coma and had to have part of his skull and even a small part of his brain removed.
He is currently in a semi-coma and might say his first word since the collision this week. The rehab he is in is in Cambridge, Mass. Me and the rest of the family - including him before the accident - live in New Hampshire.
The only way we can see him, as we only have one car and can’t afford to damage that with repeated trips on the highway, is by train. These trips can easily cost over $100 - and that’s just the train ride.
These trips to see him are very important because the more we stimulate him the better it is, because that will help him wake up. And the fact that I am closer to him than anyone else in the family is is a big reason as to why I need to see him a lot- both for him and for myself too.
My uncle was the only person working in our household, so ever since the collision, our budget has been very tight. Trying to afford all of the bills and trips to see him is getting a little too hard. So we, his family, have decided to ask for help.
As I said before, he might end up saying his first word this week and it’ll be the first time we’ll get to actually communicate with him since Feburary 3rd. However, we cannot see him this week if we do not get some donations.
