One thing you gotta love about the sixth Doctor: If you go back and watch his first episode, he already had that jacket on the Tardis. It wasn’t an impulse wardrobe change, where he just made due with what was on hand, like with Three, Eight and Eleven. It wasn’t drawn out with indecision, like Five and Seven. Oh no! The Doctor had that jacket tucked away in his closet, and as soon as he got a look at his new face, he went striding off to change clothes with purpose. When he found the jacket, his face lit up. Mind you, this garment isn’t exactly Timelord fashion, it’s barely Earth fashion. And I just cannot help picturing an earlier version of the Doctor—no idea which one—coming across this brightly colored coat on his travels, and thinking to himself, “OH YES! This is BRILLIANT! Ah, but I can never pull it off…” 

(You know what, actually, I bet it was Three who stashed it away. He told Unit he wanted a bunch of free clothes, someone probably slipped the coat in as a joke. Nary did they expect…) 

We have no idea how many regenerations he went through, looking at himself, thinking of that jacket, and sadly saying, “No, it wouldn’t work.” And then, one day he wakes up as Six, takes a look at himself, and decides that he is beautiful, and that the time has finally come. 

In light of this, I completely understand why he’s such a petty bitch about Peri’s whole “Yuck” reaction.

I know we all mock prequels for “Let’s attach ridiculous significance to how this character got this random ass accessory they have” but also I want an entire Big Finish story about where one of the Doctor’s before Six got that fuckin coat :D
