New Chaggi AU
(well more like my take on some pre-existing aus)
Basically, I read some of the fics for @sunsetmountainlion's biotech exorcists au, a few days later got reminded of the au/theory of Charlie being a doll made by Lucifer, and went "wait a minute, putting these 2 aus together would be peak."
Edit: I wrote a fic
So here's the au concept:
Lucifer and Lilith just can't have kids, and in the throes of depression and isolation (Lucifer and Lilith are in a rough patch), makes Charlotte to bring them happiness.
Charlotte was originally meant to be without sin, but as a byproduct, without free will, since Lucifer blames the apple for the direction his life's gone. The way she was made means her core (not a soul, even Lucifer can't replicate that) is centered at all times on making her parents happy.
Lucifer is overjoyed at the success of his greatest creation, no his daughter! She's everything he ever wanted (as long as he ignores the tiny flaws that pop up from time to time, which is easy for someone as forgetful as Lucifer). Lilith is....less impressed.
No, in fact, she's horrified at what her husband has created. This thing is an affront to life, to everything she stands for. And Lucifer has the gall to call that thing their daughter! She's tempted to walk out right then and there, but doesn't.
At first, just out of curiosity at the doll who constantly follows her around. But then, after one harsh order for the doll to leave her alone!
It hesitates. It reaches out to follow her, before walking down the hall
Only a moment, but it's enough for Lilith. Despite her hu- Lucifer's efforts, Charlotte has free will. And she'll be double damned if she lets the king smother that spark before it gets a chance to bloom.
Years later, and Charlotte still obeys them, she has to, it's in her nature. But Lilith has taught her well (even if Charlotte doesn't fully realize how much her mother taught her) and eventually find a way to chase her own dream, even if it takes some loopholes.
Meanwhile, Sera and Adam are preparing the exterminations, when they run into a major problem. Who's going to be their army? The souls of heaven are too pure for this task, so how are they going to build their forces?
Adam, ironically enough, comes up with the solution. Robots. It's perfect, they have no souls to dirty, no need for training, just programmers who wouldn't need to know the full extent of their roles, and they won't hesitate in battle! Plus, Adam throws in, they can be programmed for other shit, help guard heaven and serve winners and shit.
It isn't a hard fought battle. Sera readily agrees, and gives Adam almost full oversight on the production of Exorcist Units (not full, Sera knows better). When the first extermination comes down, sinners learn to fear mindless metal soldiers that are immune to everything Hell has.
V-AG-13 is a unit like any other. It serves its purpose like all other Exorcist Units, and has no feelings about its duties. Why would it, Exorcist Units don't have souls. (It ignores the strangely satisfying buzzing it feels when guarding the children's areas, and the slight stutter it experiences whenever a SINNER cries louder than normal.)
One day, on what should be normal extermination duty, a glitch happens. What it is, or why it happened is unknown. What does matter, is that when V-AG-13 encounters it's next SINNER, it instead sees a child. Torn between their two protocols (This is SINNER, it has to die. But this is a child, children have to be protected at any cost) they hesitate, and let the SI-child go.
One mistake, out of the unit's hands, but it was one mistake too many. When L-AG-03 (Special Designation Lute) finds V-AG-13, it immediately disposes of her, cutting through one of her "eyes" to disconnect her halo, and feels nothing. Adam comes by to inspect and grabs the more useful tech (wings and halo), before leaving the robot for scrap. (Adam is later reprimanded by Sera for leaving any heaven tech in hell. Just a scrap could be reverse engineered by sinners against Heaven, let alone a mostly functional unit!)
V-AG-13 feels nothing. It has been discarded, and will soon be shut down permanently, abandoned without purpose. But something was unlocked by the glitch, and it won't go away. So when something comes down the alley and picks the unit up, it lets her do so, even if her programming says to strike.
7 years after the exterminations began, an interview makes waves, but not for the right reasons. After all, the idea is ridiculous! Sinners, getting redeemed, it's priceless! Who could come up with such a thing?
Two nobody sinners, apparently. Don't even have any souls to their names. Charlie and Vaggi are their names, not that anyone really cares. They look a little weird, and are definitely crazy, but it's hell, you get used to weird and crazy.
But even then, something about the 2 feels...off. They aren't sure what, they both look normal by hell standards, but there is something different about the 2 hotel owners that no one can quite place.
These stories have absolutely no connection in the slightest. (They have everything to do with each other).
Or
She was a doll, she was a robot, can I make it anymore obvious?
Featuring: Complicated parents Lucifer and Lilith, existential crises on the nature of personhood, Charlie and Vaggi bullshitting their way through pretending to be normal sinners, and my self indulgent love of robots and escaping your predetermined fate!
