This is my head canon, but bsfr it's basically canon, but y'know how "fire lady" is just the title for the fire lord's wife. She doesn't have much say at all, it's all up to the fire lord. Zuko would definitely hold Mai up as an equal. Obviously some people wouldn't like that, and try to argue. He would simply let them go, if they can't respect Mai he won't respect them. (I'm just ramblinggg ughhh I'm sorryyyy)
