"How many of them, though? I think with kids the energy combination is exponential, not linear."
"There might be something to that, but never been too great at math. Don’t think we’ve met," he extends a hand, "John Blake."
"I love it, but I'm aware that's weird." She takes his hand for a firm, quick shake. "Kitty Pryde. I'm new in Gotham."
A Girl and Her Pet Dragon by *mcguan
[Now there’s a slight blush as well as a smile.]
Well, if I’m any good at it, it’s because you taught me. Will teach me.
*light sigh* To hear stories like that, I sometimes wonder how I’d ever be able to. I suppose it’s about actually being in that position.
You believe in harnessing our abilities, don't you? Learning how best to use them for the good of others as well as ourselves? Protecting each other? *a faint smile* I think it all follows from that.
Take the Long Way Home (Nat + Kitty)
Nat twitched. He didn’t think he’d gotten his point across too well. He shook his head to clear it, what was said was said, no point trying to clear the air, it was already clear the woman disliked him. Or his life choices. Same thing. There was something he wanted to clarify.
"Just to prove a point, the gun isn’t loaded. I carry clips on me, yes, but I don’t carry a loaded gun here." He shrugged one shoulder. He flashed her a small smile.
"I’ve been here before, got given the grand tour. I just haven’t seen the Danger Room, out of time constraints more than anything. I’ve never come here with a completely free day without worry." He shrugged again, nodding at her to lead the way.
Kitty visibly relaxed. “You could’ve just said that, you know,” she said reasonably. An unloaded gun was still a weapon, but it made her far less worried than a possibly twitchy agent in a house full of kids and unruly teenagers with a loaded gun.
"Then we’ll head downstairs and see if we can bother the Professor. Or one of the others can help set it up for you."
Nat chuckled, a low and soft sound. “I thought it might have been inferred.” He said. “Violence may be my life, but I don’t wish it on anyone else. Besides, I doubt Xavier would let me in here fully armed if it wasn’t an emergency.” He nodded at Kitty.
"I maintain I would just like to see it, I am not fully equipped to run any kind of simulation right now. And I doubt my handler and partner would be very happy with me trying anything with this shoulder." He added, a wry grin on his face.
"Stranger things have happened," she said lightly. Like invasions. And uncontrolled power bursts that blew off the roof of the boys' wing. Stuff like that.
Kitty nodded decisively. "Then let's go downstairs," she said, pausing to actually open the door under the staircase that led to the X-Men's areas. It was a firm boundary line between the school and the heroes, one that students only passed when they'd reached a certain age and ability level. Leading Nat in, she headed past the locker room and towards the Danger Room.
Professor? she thought carefully, just in case he was done with Cerebro. Agent Romanoff is here, I'm showing him the Danger Room.

"Took the kids out today into the woods around the Wayne Estate. I think it’s a bad sign if eight and nine-year-olds wear me out this bad."
"How many of them, though? I think with kids the energy combination is exponential, not linear."
[She beams. It’s still wonderful to see someone react with amazement rather than fear.]
It’s pretty nifty, yeah.
Certainly, it comes in handy! Marvelous, truly. *sighs, smiling* And a fine woman you are as yourself. A wonderful combination indeed.
[Now there's a slight blush as well as a smile.]
Well, if I'm any good at it, it's because you taught me. Will teach me.
( He follows her with a fascination that was visible on his features. It was… so odd. It felt odd even if he didn’t really feel anything, phasing through solid materials without interference at all. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. )
Fantastic…
[She beams. It's still wonderful to see someone react with amazement rather than fear.]
It's pretty nifty, yeah.
[She grinned. Hard not to, when her power was greeted with excitement and wonder instead of fear.]
Do you want to see what it’s like to walk through a wall, Professor?
So long that all my molecules settle back in place. *laughs* Of course.
They will, I promise.
[She takes his hand and pulls him slowly, walking backwards, not stopping to navigate around any furniture, passing through it and then into and through the wall, taking quiet steps that make no sound.]
Okay. *she reaches out, as if to take his hand, but lets her fingers pass through his instead.*
See, it doesn’t feel like anything. *For starters. Some people find phasing through a wall a little unsettling.*
( He blinked, his face having fell for only a brief second as he processed what just happened before a large grin appeared, obviously thrilled. He examined his hand, excited laughter leaving him. )
Marvelous!

Take the Long Way Home (Nat + Kitty)
Nat noticed Kitty’s reactions, but he couldn’t risk not carrying. That, and his training was too ingrained. If he was unarmed, his mind told him something had gone very wrong. And that would not bode well, on top of Xavier being able to tell basic surface thoughts.
"All I can really say is be glad you don’t understand it completely, if you did, well, it’s not pleasant to know the things I do. About myself and the world." He shrugged, pushing away from the counter in an easy, graceful movement.
"I suspect Xavier is more tied up than is typical. But, like I said, I have plenty of time. I’m grounded from the team and missions right now, pending my shoulder healing completely. In fact, I even took my personal car today. Rarely have that chance anymore." He smiled softly. He followed behind her, entirely expecting, when he left, to have to shoo some of Xavier’s kids away. Not often does anyone see a ‘67 Mustang in perfect condition.
Kitty nodded again, thinking privately that she understood a hell of a lot more than Nat probably thought she did. The school had been invaded and the team hunted, after all. She knew a little bit about feeling unsafe.
She chuckled, though, as Nat followed. “He’s always tied up. Headmaster, mutant rights leader, intellectual, a bunch of other titles I can’t remember… we can always look at the rest of the school if you’d rather see classrooms or a library?” Probably not as interesting as the Danger Room, especially for an Avenger.
Nat twitched. He didn’t think he’d gotten his point across too well. He shook his head to clear it, what was said was said, no point trying to clear the air, it was already clear the woman disliked him. Or his life choices. Same thing. There was something he wanted to clarify.

dear old xavier's
Kitty grinned. “Fifteen-hour days and all that?” She sipped her lemonade and tried to be a little less obvious about her glances. Whatever his current life was, it seemed to suit him.
She nodded, understanding precisely what he meant. “I don’t think it suits everyone who stays either. But it’s not like we get much in the way of career guidance, you know? Besides, we could use a few more lawyers on our side.”
"Sometimes all nighters," Mike said with a rueful laugh. "And no, I guess we don’t. Lucky for me, I wanted to be a lawyer totally independent of being a mutant, I wanted it for other personal reasons. So it made my choices easier."
He smiled, a sharp smile. “Well…” He slid a business card over to her. “If you do need one, I’m just a call away. Legal backup if it’s ever needed.”
"I guess having a good reason helps," she acknowledged. "Sometimes I think about going out and getting a job at Google or whatever, but... I don't think I'd know what to do in an office. Even one for nerdy hipsters."
Kitty wasn't sure she liked the looks of that smile, but she took the card anyway and examined it. "Cool, thanks. God knows we get into enough trouble on our own. Having someone on our side might help."
[[man I feel like tumblr rp is really... not for people with day jobs and olds who need more than five hours of sleep a night. or I'm just reeeeeeaaaaallllyyyyyy sllllllooooooowwwwww.

Just passing through.
[An awkward choice of words, given that she’d been just finishing phasing through a wall when he glanced down the alleyway at her. She’d hoped he hadn’t noticed.
But he probably had.]
I noticed.
[And his smile grows, showing just the hint of teeth. It’s sometimes hard to tell, what’s a trick on the eye, but — he doesn’t think he’s mistaken here.
And to think, he wasn’t even looking.]
[He spreads his hands in front of him, calling to the metal in the area and shaking it ever-so-slightly.]
It seems… efficient.
[She shivers, hearing more than seeing the vibrations in the metal. Who is this man? How is he... like her?]
Are you going to tell anyone?
