Healing my nervous system has taught me that we waste so much of our lives simply because we’re not present. Do you ever wonder why the years seem to slip by faster, why time feels like it’s speeding up, why you struggle to remember moments clearly? It’s because you’re not truly here.

We waste our lives constantly scrolling, jumping from one video to the next, bombarding the mind with endless information. We compare our lives to others, chasing stories that have nothing to do with us, instead of experiencing what’s unfolding right now. Your brain can’t properly process the present if it’s drowning in distraction.

It’s like playing music in the background while you’re doing something else. The melody is there, but you’re not listening deeply, so you don’t really remember it. Your life works the same way. If you become passive, give your attention away to every new headline, every trend, every glimpse into other people’s lives, you stop living your own. You lose track of what matters to you. Your nervous system stays in a state of restlessness because it never settles into the present.

When you choose presence, you step out of the rat race. You stop living for the fear of missing out. You become grounded, and you start seeing what truly matters to you. You build your reality around those things. Because while the universe is infinite, your universe (your center of gravity) is finite. You decide what fills it. You decide which people get to be in it. You decide whether your perspective is positive or negative. You choose the filter through which you see your life.

Are you going to keep wasting that time staring into someone else’s world, chasing what doesn’t belong to you? Or are you going to claim your present, curate your reality, and actually live it? Think about it.
