Sometimes when I bind in malasana, I can get my forehead to touch the floor, and sometimes it feels miles away no matter how much I fold or lean forward or tighten and pull through my belly. Some days I can bind in firefly B and sometimes it’ll be weeks in between when I’m able to do it. There are days when I can hold handstands and forearm stands without feeling like I’m even using effort, and then there are times that I practice and I feel like I weigh 5,000 pounds trying to hold myself up in down dog. Everything comes and goes in waves, and that’s okay. It’s okay to not be able to do something right now that you were able to do without trying two days ago. It all ebbs and flows and comes in time. It’s okay to do something and to take a step back and say, “not today.” and try again tomorrow.
I Need Help... For My Cats!
So you guys have probably been wondering about the donate button on my blog that has the titled Shadow and Nemo Spay/Neuter Fund.
Well, if you guys didn’t know (which you probably don’t), I have two beautiful kitties and both of them were strays I picked up off the streets.
Here’s Shadow:
Isn’t she gorgeous?
Here’s the baby boy, Nemo:
Basically, to keep things short, I need money in order to get both of these cute babies the proper vet attention and their spay/neuter surgeries.
Currently, there is a place in NJ that brings everything (including pre-exams, vaccinations, neuter/spay) at the low cost of around $250 for each (this is assuming it’s all of the fees they claim on their website, which you can have access to here: https://www.pfaonline.org/
I found Shadow about the end of September last year but have not been able to get the funds ever since then because I’m a broke college student who’s paying for her rent, bills, groceries, etc.
I found Nemo recently when I began my summer job, it was either end of May or beginning of June. He has a broken tail but that doesn’t stop him from being super energetic and basically my rambunctious child. (Don’t worry I called the vet about his tail and they wouldn’t do anything about it because it’s the tip and he doesn’t have issues going to the bathroom, etc.)
I recently noticed that although Nemo is definitely a baby of 3 months or a bit more, he’s getting into maturity really quickly. I found him mounting Shadow and biting her neck which is showcasing dominance. I really can’t afford for Shadow to be pregnant so I’m going to take Nemo to the vet this upcoming Saturday. However, I have no idea how I’m going to pay for it.
ANYWAY, so I’m asking you guys for help. If 500 people donate $1 then the amount will be paid for and both of my babies will be helped and totally grateful of your kindness towards their sexual and general health.
Please Please Please donate or spread the word by reblogging! If I could raise the money by Saturday, August 8, when I’m taking Nemo in (or probably both cats if the money is raised) you’d be saving my happy family!
* Also, if you do donate, please let me know if my Paypal button works. I tried coding it but I’m not sure if it works.
This is rad!!!!!!!

Don’t be fooled by Hollywood actors and other v-neck wearing LA types, a mala is not a necklace or a bracelet. It’s a tool for meditation.
There are a whole bunch of types of malas and a tradition to go with each, but I’m only going to tell you about the Tibetan Buddhist, 108 bead one today.
If you are new to meditation and you’re finding it hard not to drift into grocery lists or internet beef with some high school acquaintance when you sit down to meditate than a mala might be just the thing to get you focused.
The significance of the beads are to help you repeat a prayer or mantra, either out loud or in your head and keep count without having to think too much about it, so you can achieve that elusive no-mind that all yogis are chasing. 108 beads represents the number of klesas or afflictions that humans suffer from. In some forms of Buddhism, the mantra is repeated 100 times and the extra 8 beads are just in case you missed some. Good measure beads. The 108 beads are joined by a tassel at the end which represents enlightenment, the lightning bolt of the divine if you will.
Wood vs Crystal
Get a wooden mala if you want to infuse it with a magnetizing mantra. Sandalwood is best for strength and peace (example the famous Om Mani Padme Hum, the Tibetan chant for peace) or Rosewood for prosperity. There are other wood types but I advise you to go traditional rather than for look.
Crystal malas are for pacifying mantras and they last a long time. Clear quartz is good for all the chakras and balancing and rose quartz is really good for heart opening.
Picking your mantra
Pick something you can chant daily for a month or more. Pick something that resonates with you. “Money of everything” is a low vibration and probably not what you want to be chanting. World peace mantras are nice, but if you’re really just looking for inner peace, then go with that. You don’t always have to go big, you can start small. A bija (bija means seed) mantra that works really well out loud or in your head is “OM”. It’s simple and the resonance of the sound will help to heal you vibrationally.
Stick with one mantra per mala. Don’t get all fancy and over think it. Just pick your mantra and practice every day for 40 days. Once the mala is infused with the intention of the mantra, then you can wear it. But before that, keep it away in a cloth bag or case, separated from your other things.
My mantra is, “for love is the kingdom, and love is the power, and love is the glory, forever and ever”. It’s a simple easy one for me and it takes me about 20 minutes to say it 108 times on the subway with my eyes closed moving bead to bead with each round. I zone out into the no-mind space, but I find that when my mind does wander, it wanders onto the meaning of the words, picking out each and mini-meditating on that. And zoning into the word love is better than a grocery list in my book.
Happy chanting,
Namaste.

Do We Plan Our Lives Before We Are Born?
The theory that we plan our lives was something I had never heard of before 2011. Up until that point, I could not have even imagined such a thing. Even after hearing about it 3 years ago, it took me quite a long time to let this concept into my paradigm. How I stumbled upon it wasn’t even through my avid research of the afterlife and reincarnation. It came to me through a vision I had. Before the vision, I believed in reincarnation. The idea of it had always fascinated me and I felt strongly that I did have past lives; I just didn’t know what those lives entailed. After three years of intense research and listening to many people from all different backgrounds and beliefs speak about it from all around the world, I knew it was something that needed to be shared and discussed.

Meditated for the first time. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was great! I definitely feel relaxed and at peace - which I thought was going to be hard to do considering my mind is always going 10000 miles a minute. I can't wait to start doing this on a daily basis - I think it will help improve my mindset and get me out of constant worry-mode.
So plant your own gardens and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
